Apologies for misspeaking about the Titanic's prop -- I misremembered the controversy. It was *viewers* who got it wrong, not LEGO.

Hey Jang! love your reviews and another fun fact, those middle and front sails actually did not have any boom arm to hold them! they were roped and tied to the deck at the edges so lego should have added extra holes to the tip and should have used more thread piece to hold it down! They did get the source material right to not add a lower sail boom arm, but missed out on the details of it being anchored to the deck!

Here over in Germany, I have got some sets with paperbags, but I absolutely don‘t like them, because parts get easy stucked in them. I really like that Jang is increasingly addressing grievances at Lego and doing so in a matter-of-fact and calm manner.
@neilrusling-je6zo6 күн бұрын
I want to be envirofriendly...but I am getting very bored now of thinking I am pieces missing only to find them glued to the inside of these "paper" bags, we have some crazy static electricity that makes getting the pieces out far more difficult than it should be. Plus what is the point of lining your paper bags with plastic and then pretending it is paper that can be recycled when it cannot. Use paper or plastic, but not both, this is a great idea executed badly.
@RollMeAFat15 күн бұрын
Yeah for some reason they’ve changed the design so that parts can get stuck in the bottom, if they were literally just paper versions of the plastic bags there’d be no issue at all
@saltiestsalt63265 күн бұрын
I (also in germany) bought the endurance and was pleasantly surprised to see that every single bag was paper. And yeah, i get the thing with the parts being stuck, but i just rip them flat open entirely, so theres no corners for parts to get stuck in. That seems to work fine.
@1337Jokerman5 күн бұрын
Fellow German here. I actually really like the paper bags (which now seem to be more and more the standard here). As they are very stiff, they don't get crumpled up in the boxes like the plastic bags usually do. This looks more valuable when unpacking and protects the glossy look of the stones.

XD I'm in sort of a similar situation (I work at sea), where I know waaaaay to much about ships to be able to enjoy the previous Lego boats. But like you said, Titanic and now Endurance really pushed towards model quality while keeping it true Lego. And now I know what the brown boxes on deck are for! that was a thing they could've explained in the booklet. Regarding packaging, I got this one in Europe. And had all paper bags for the first time!

I’m happy to see a channel finally calling out Lego about their paper bags… I felt like I was the only one who recognized the blatant misleading advertising they were doing the last 4 years - they were literally patting themselves on the back, touting how eco friendly and green they were, meanwhile virtually no one in North America has received a paper bag set (aside from the Lego ambassadors and sponsored channels)

Great review, Jang. Really appreciate the honesty and integrity. I just finished my Endurance last night and agree that this is an amazing display set. Not a fan of the rigging and am glad it was only two strands that I had to string. The end result does look good though. The ladders were also a pain. Your note on the GWP sets is spot on. I have had Lego take mine away after purchase and I had anxiety they would do it again when I saw how fast the lifeboat companion set disappeared. I feel fortunate that my Endurance came with the GWP but felt a bit guilty that mine came. While the ship is amazing as a model, the story only comes out with the GWP lifeboat. For this set to work, the lifeboat is an essential part of the release. This is my biggest criticism for Lego here. It should have come as a complete set.

I want to comment on your propeller part of the video regarding Titanic's center propeller not having the correct amount of blades. but in reality the Titanic most likely did have a three bladed center propeller not four. That famous photograph of "Titanic's" propellers are actually of her sister ship Olympic, that photo was taken in the 20's, and that photograph is frequently mis-captioned as being Titanic, since no pictures taken of Titanic's propellers actually exist. There was an engineers handbook discovered in the late 2000's, which details a lot of ships propellers pitch and blades and it shows that the Olympic had a four-bladed center prop, and Titanic three bladed prop. Back then and even some cases today propellers were like tires on your car, they were expendable and experimental. and with Titanic they were experimenting on which bladed arrangement was more efficient, this is further backed by the fact that after the Titanic sank the Olympic's center propeller got changed to a three bladed center prop, but it proved to be less efficient than the four bladed prop so they quickly changed it.

SO glad I was able to put in the order within the first hour or two. I was wondering if I would even get the GWP until I opened the shipping box. Really just a terrible thing for LEGO to be doing. If they have so many copies of the main set, they can have just as many copies of the GWP, so no excuses other than money. For that recent Luke Skywalker Lightsaber, I just went and got all the bricks on PAB and Bricklink, and even bought a custom-printed plaque brick from some guy in the UK. Even with that extra expense, it was still half the price of what speculators are asking for on eBay.

There solution will be to have even less product available during roll-out of a new set, so they won't have to have that many GWP available. The Endurance was allready out of stock in a matter of days, which is a regular occurance with new releases nowadays.

I don't mind the shaping of the hull. It has to be hard to get such a complex compound curve into LEGO. I'm not a maritime person in general, but I do really like model ships. This looks like a fun time building to me. Thanks for the detailed review. It's out of my price range, so my only enjoyment of it is in this kind of video. I'm glad this was satisfying to someone that is really familiar with the topic. If the life boat was a real set, I would probably buy that. I like the build and the figs and equipment fit my style.
@bertbergers91715 күн бұрын
There is a polish brand COBI who have even more different shapes of slopes and curves in their assortiment, they build really nice hulls on mostly ww2 era ships, but should be able to improve on this Lego design with that portfolio. And having build this set during the weekend, i feel like Lego designer just had to use the big curved panel pieces too much. In the middle hull they are fine, freighters do have that belly to create a decent enough hold for them, but towards bow and stern there could have been better builds. Those would have cramped the inner space, so we might not have gotten that steam engine, but i am not great at MOC-ing myself, so no idea how to build this maybe better shaped hull myself. Just feels like it would be possible.

Great review, as always. I love the Endurance and will definitely get it, but I also despise Lego's predatory use of the GWP. I've also done orders before that where a GWP was meant to be included but it just didn't come in the delivery. When contacting Lego they just say "It's while stocks last". Not good enough at all, especially if you place your order specifically to get a GWP.

In the interests of comparison, the closest equivalent alternative I could find is a 1/70 scale wooden model by OcCre which has to be built and painted with full rigging, and that costs $250. So Lego actually got the value proposition correct here.
@SO-ym3zs5 күн бұрын
Depending what kind of building experience you are after. Even complex Lego sets are simple, which is what some people like. Others enjoy the challenge and complexity of scale modelmaking, which involves vastly more skill, specialized tools, etc.
@bertbergers91715 күн бұрын
I don't feel like that logic should be valid. I have seen a WW2 U-boot (submarine) by Panlos longer (1,5x) then this model even with interior on places only the builder will ever know is there, for $140 dollars. (Just looked it op and there are resellers out there selling the set for way over $200 dollars aswell, but those are sharks). What i mean to say is you should look for value comparison within the brick competition, yes that U-boot is not a rigged sailing ship, but it has a much better built hull and a couple thousand more bricks in comparable or better quality then Lego. So however much i like the ship (i just finished building the Endurance) for €270,- i barely got the value right because of 5% insiders points, double GWP for black friday, plus the specific Shackleton GWP. I had about 6 hours of build pleasure and one hour of zen time making the rope ladders. The wooden model you refer to, expects you to have 350 hours of build experience. And comes with a smooth finished streamlined hull. (In euro's it is priced at 200) You are too willing here to find a nice price thing to say towards Lego.

My Endurance in Germany came with only paper bags. Even with paper bags in paper bags. Maybe they send the Influencers sets from Europe. For logistic reasons. Not for false advertising.
@JANGsLEGOreviews5 күн бұрын
There's more to the story here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqLLc2WehMxjj9E LEGO did explicitly send out hand-picked sets with paper bags to influencers for the sake of marketing their green initiatives. They did this in 2021. They did it again in 2022. They did it again in 2023. Not until 2024 did sets with paper bags finally start showing up in limited markets. I've got hundreds of comments from people all around Europe and the UK saying they've just started getting paper or are still getting a lot of plastic. Meanwhile LEGO is continuing to use their influencer contractors to push the "we've gone green; look we only use paper bags now" message and it is simply not true. That's my problem. As I've stated very clearly, defending LEGO for years now, I expected this transition to take a long time. They even said as much back in 2020. Since then, though, they've been making deceptive claims & implications (through their influencer contractors) about the progress. I just want a multi-billion dollar company to be honest to their consumers about a major initiative they've made a big deal about. That's all. I don't think I'm being unreasonable.
@thebrickhiker5 күн бұрын
They've been doing this for over 4 years now though - and Lego has great logistics - they could roll out paper just to the countries that are finally being converted to paper. But back in 2020 Lego said they were rolling out paper. Only this year has that happened to a few regions. Yet for the last 4 years, LAN members open their sets which always have paper bags, no matter where those LAN members are based. Lego can do better than this, and they should have.

Ok my biggest issue with this paper bag thing, is it seems like LEGO prematurely declared they are going paper for the sake of getting social applause (social profit, if you will) EARLY, before even doing anything applaud-worthy. And it's like, they gained social profit and because they already have, are slacking to make good on their declaration. Four years for a company like this to switch seems pretty wild.

Prints on parts are great unless they are printed off-center as they appear to be with nearly every single 1x1 round tile for the portholes. For the cost of these sets, printing simply must be better. I'd rather have porthole stickers that I can be sure to line up correctly.

I really do miss the old GWP way. It really should be the people who order whatever set within the first day/week/whatever get a little something extra to compliment the set. In my mind I feel like that would not have a negative effect on sales over the current system, but obviously I do not have the data. Anyway, any practice that actively benefits scalpers/speculators is a negative one whether they are Lego selling toys up to Porsche selling cars and everything in between.
@SO-ym3zs5 күн бұрын
The scalpers or speculators are only doing what free market economies allow and encourage: finding a demand and exploiting it. If people didn't spend tons of money on Lego, they would have no business opportunity. And if people didn't get suckered by Lego GWP FOMO, Lego wouldn't profit from it and would find a different way to increase their revenues.

I just watched you video. I agree with your statement on the sails. Is there a possibility that Lego might update this build to add the missing beams for the sails. I was able to get my Endurance ship and, the GWP on Black Friday I wasn’t happy with the Lego stores not having the brown shipping box. I don’t plan to build mine until sometime after the new year and, wanted that box to store my set for protection. Suggestion. Lego should put these Special GWP in the box of the item it was made for. Problem solved. That everyone who made the purchase gets the add on. If you are a LEGO insider you accumulate points with LEGO purchases. I also got the ships crometor with 2400 points. I am not sure these are out of stock or not. I’ve actually seen both items up on eBay before they were released. I think that this is ridiculous.

Honestly quite surprised about the paper bags. Just finished building mine yesterday evening, but every large numbered bag in my copy was made of paper. Only about 5 out of the 28 bags contained a plastic bag inside for the tiny pieces, whilst the mini's in all others were also made of paper. I imagine that either different factories or produced batches are the cause, but it's not a good look for Lego regardless. Would like to see Lego's reasoning, because the contrast between their promise and reality borders on greenwashing; if it's even possible for a company that essentialy sells plastics with an insane cost margin to be as environmentaly friendly as they strive to be.

EU seems to get paper bags sooner. But that doesn't really change much cause they advertise this everywhere, not just in or for the eurozone

0:51 Y'know, I'm starting to think the paper bags thing is gonna be mostly exclusive to Europe and they're not gonna roll it out worldwide until legislation in their foreign markets forces them to
