I love display pieces that encourage you to fiddle with them every once in a while instead of just being static objects you won't interact with. You'll look over to this on your table or shelf, walk over, and just swap some trees around. It's a short little relaxing distraction, and sometimes you need that.
@toeguides Жыл бұрын
swapping around the trees has a very zen garden feel about it, which is very clever on the designer's part.

Even though LEGO is always customizable, I am very pleased with the way that this set encourages builders to rearrange the various components to their liking. Another aspect of this set that I enjoy is that it can be appreciated from all angles. Many LEGO sets marketed to adults are meant to be viewed from certain vantage points, but this is good all the way around.

One of my favorite "system within the system" systems is with the 2008 clone wars sets, where the ATTE, AT OT, and Turbo Tank All had a similar enough handle to where the republic dropship could pick any of them up.

Easily the best set they’ve released this year for me so far. The cherry blossum trees are gorgeous and the water tiling was a surprisingly fun part of the build.

The extra exploration part you included at the end of this video was interesting - and I’m strongly on your side at the $89.99 price point. After getting the (highly recommended) bonsai tree set and being very happy with that one, I did see it go on sale (and available at many different store locations). Knowing that this new set has the configurable trees, I’m going to sit on this one for now but keep an eye on it, for sure. It looks great to me, but the retail price is pushing my peaceful state away a bit too much, if you catch my drift ;-)

This is exactly why I watch Jang for my Lego reviews. None of his reviews are ever 2D. Awesome that he brought to light the fascinating features and added his own ideas as to what Lego could do for the future. Great review as always!

My 2 thoughts after this- first, it is a LOT bigger than I thought from the images. Second, the modular aspect of the plants is very good and different orientations change the feel of the build so much!
@clubpenguin4761 Жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer your longer format of video, it feels like you actually cover details that many many other KZbinrs leave out. On top of that, because of the depth you provide when explaining your opinions, while I don’t always agree, I can certainly understand your perspective and take that on board to advise whether I do or do not buy a set. It’s because of your longer videos and depth that comes with it which makes you my go-to for when I want to buy a set

I must say that your review style is tranquil, complimenting the feel of the set. I love your enthusiasm regarding the ability to arrange the set to your personal tastes. I just recently started building Lego and one of the things I love is "modding" the sets, however remedial my efforts are. It's all enjoyable! Thanks for a great review!

The adjustable plants also mean that if you want to make some custom trees and other accessories, it's very easy to swap them in, and hopefully people can design individual plants to have as alternate options

I like the way you do your reviews. The improvisation/nonscripted makes it somehow more honest. And since it's the way you like tondo videos, seems like winwin. This set is awesome. Fun to swap trees or even build own and insert them into set. I want to try to add Japanese Red Maple like trees into it instead of Sakura. With Himeji, this is a great month for fans of Japan :)

In your defense, Lego's prices the last few years have been pretty unreasonable as well, so an eye for an eye there! 😉 This set is a bit of a toss up for me, in that it's really beautiful and wouldn't be out of place with one's city layout of even just a display piece. Definitely expensive but not as outrageous as certain sets in this price range we've seen lately which have so little to them for how much they cost (looking at you Star Wars dioramas and the Marvels Hoopty!). I'm not hugely interested in this, as there's other sets that have my attention at the moment, but I'm more interested than I originally was. So I'm keeping my eye on it and how much it'll drop.

This set has a bit of a Ninjago feel, you know? A place where the Ninjago characters would go to relax? Anyway, I think it seems like a very zen build, I like how much there is nature in there, it's quite beautiful, and the fact that you can move the trees around is the cherry on top, very nice set in all.

As an owner of the 2021 CNY Spring Lantern Festival I can't help but draw comparisons, and think the Lantern Festival is vastly superior. I know you cannot compare 2021 and 2023 prices but that set was only £90, bigger, with minifigs. This feels like the 2023 Lego 'crazy prices' adult cash in. It is a nice set, but hard to shallow with any prior knowledge of what has gone before

I wonder how does Lego and its designers calculate/quantify how much can go into a set to fit a particular budget? It can't be only piece count, but the types of pieces, unique molds, colors, prints, etc...Do they have like a pricing table how much each of these elements cost? Or maybe a software that prices Lego designs lol? There's also the variation in pricing based on themes and their target markets..Architecture sets for instance, despite having smaller/fewer pieces, tend to be more expensive for what you would get in other themes for their respective price...

It would have been nice if they had included just 5 more parts to make that open space you suggested. Green 1x2 brick, green 1x2 brick w/ 1 knob, 2x2 plate, 2x2 tile, and 1x1 stud. Surely they could have fit that in the budget. Despite that it is a nice set. I wish it were $10 cheaper. I think asking $90 is expecting a bit much from Lego in 2023. But Lego could have made this $100 and I would call that fair enough.

The thing i hope you appreciate about your conclusions jang is they make sense and are exactly what is needed to be known... for people who are already into lego and with over time growing lego collections. Talking about the gap between perception, marketing and real life is the only bit of info we need. We've already concluded / decided pretty much and are just enjoying a review. The other part about that is price. Unless you're wealthy or have chosen lego as a significant other, in 2023.. does anyone who has a lego collection, including a backlog, ever buy lego at full price? I guess its not something easily discussed in public.. but a few years ago, i used to feel passionately about legos rrp pricing. In 2023, even seeing full priced lego anyware is a laughable joke, and there's no way id buy anything even close to full price.. and i haven't done so for a very long time. I think there may be a few different realities of existence out there for lego collectors.. and somehow.. lego provides the products at all the varying prices to all people....
