Pfftt LOL I loved how you edited the medieval town square box to be yellow 😂

I'd say the Lion Knight's Castle is at 5/6th scale, compared with the old castles. everything seems 1 stud smaller than normal. I'd say the the Medieval Blacksmith is around 3/2 scale. Everything is scaled up slightly too large to be in scale, making for a huge building.
@octav16009 ай бұрын
Usually I would agree here, but I saw some castles in my day. They have TINY rooms (except for the huge feasting hall), and the spaces to get up and around the walls are cramped as well. I would say you just need more of this - not necessarily bigger rooms (and you can do that if you build 2 more extensions at the back of the castle to fill out the opened up rooms that are already there.
@octav16009 ай бұрын
Love what you did with the castle. I got myself 5 of these for the same reason. What I want to do, but never saw anyone else do with their Lions Knights Castle, is put the entire upgraded castle on a raised platform (something like a hill or mountain side). Most castles that are not on a plain have a huge cliff wall beneath their walls and a even a forest if you feel inclined to do that, with a winding road up to the castle and a creek running around for the moat. I aim to make mine as tall as a raised base plate and plop the castle on top of that, so about 6 bricks high, maybe double that if I get frisky. Putting the castle on something high, even the 6 brick tall that I suggested will make it look more "in scale" with the blacksmith.
@the_vav9 ай бұрын
okay first off, please share if you do this! :) i agree, eventually the goal is to add more detailed environment surrounding the castle. landscaping is something i need to work on so if you have any suggestions on raised baseplates please share! thank you for watching and sharing!
@octav16009 ай бұрын
@@the_vav It is unlikely I will do this any time soon (planning to move sooo ... don't want o have a lot of out of the box pieces to haul over). But I am working on a raised baseplate made out of normal pieces for one of my projects, and thought to myself how easy it would be to make a raised mound (obviously with a much bigger footprint) for the lion Knights castle. It's just what it needs to stand out in a village / city. Currently I am toying around with old sets and their alternative models in Studio to learn what there is to learn from them. - almost done (just need to finish black knights, royal knights and dark forest) You may find my projects entertaining and maybe they inspire a thing of 2 (especially the huge collage pieces): kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYGkYaalbaiNf9E Hope you get some neat ideas out of this.

Funny you said this... Just planned to do exactly that! Not with x5 tho, but x2... Don't have the space since everything is packed already in my house... You know what I mean 😂😢 I have an empty low drawer closet here... or how do you call it in English, but it's only 160cm by 37cm... So that will be a huge challenge to make a medieval scene here with 2 lion castles, blacksmith and townsquare... Then again I love challenges 😂👌🏻💪🏻😂

I like the blacksmith scale for the figs, it’s just so much more comfortable. HOWEVER for building and creating a MOC or diorama the lion knight castle scale is better.
@timb76217 ай бұрын
There is a recent MOC on Rebrickable by elvarim for a scaled version of the Blacksmith shop 21325. It's 1057 pieces vs. 2164 for the set. Unfortunately, it is not an alternate build so additional pieces are necessary. (FYI- not my MOC, I just like the size and I'm considering adding it to my to do list)
@tjl56739 ай бұрын
It looks great and I totally agree with you, after medieval town square reaches me I think I will try to do the moc you did. Can't wait to see more from you, have a good one:)

Great video. I love the look of this and the scale is ideal. We have the blacksmith shop but haven't gotten the castle yet and I was thinking the castle needs to be larger and the blacksmith shop smaller. My daughter and I are going to build a castle and town this summer and this gives us a lot of ideas. Thanks.

Awesome stuff man. I think the agreed scale is the Loin Knights Castle & the Medieval Fortress scale. I think its simple about economics. You can go further with as many bricks using the smaller scale. The bigger scale is more detail focused. Personally I think the smaller scale is still plenty detailed, so I think its best.
@the_vav9 ай бұрын
The more I look at the models next to each other I agree. The blacksmith is a great looking model on its own, but if you want to expand cost effectively, then the scale of the Lion Knights Castle is the way to go. thanks for watching and sharing!!
@sean_11989 ай бұрын
You inspired me to use the pieces from a 2nd Lion Knights Castle to try build something similar. I love the original set but I was always bothered by the lack of livable space for civilians and soldiers. I will probably try to build a massive courtyard for a day market. Then an admin office with a barracks/stables behind it to house a garrison of soldiers. (rather than a tower)
@guycarol53528 ай бұрын
Wow this is really cool! You did such a good job matching the build style! I have been working on a Viking village project and I got some fun ideas from your expansion!

This simultaneously gives me high hopes for my own Castle build, and sadness because this is better than whatever I‘ll make.
@jacobelmslie38629 ай бұрын
When I first made my castle I made the catacombs into the dungeon and used the tables for the knights to have a barracks in that space below. I also made the bell tower much higher which if you did so would help balance out an extended tower if you decided to do so.... in your case I would make it more of that white and wood pattern like a room underneath for the roof area The blacksmith is nice but could you imagine a castle in that scale? Would be $1000... So I really like the LKC scale its perfect for play and being detailed without going too over board. For that reason I didn't get it, but kinda wish I had because I have seen that make some really nice town mocs in the castle scale. So now I too have started a middle section using my vintage brick collection. i like how this is so easy to add a upgrade but still keep the essence of the castle.

what i dream of doing with that castle and market someday is a wall/gatehouse enclosing both sets, so the castle becomes just the keep.
@CannonEd229 ай бұрын
i have the same dream. i always feel while seeing all these cool updates etc that the castle should be just a keep or castle without market and stuff and the rest should be around it and not a market inside, it doesnt make sense
@cowboydup9 ай бұрын
@@CannonEd22 yeah youre right. it does need a throne room inside though. the dream includes opening the castle to right angles, and filling the right side with a throne room/tower, and the left side with a courtyard/backside to the two residences

It's play vs model. I took the medieval blacksmith and put it on the tranquil garden base and have done a lot of upgrading. I love the scale, it feels like an adult set. The Lion Knights' Castle is supposed to arrive today, but if it is anything like the Viking Village it looks to be play scale. As an adult play scale seems strange to me-so I'm just leaving the LKC as is and not upgrading. I see it as play vs. historical/accuracy. If you show non-fans the LKC they see a toy.
@CandyCorn619389 ай бұрын
I will add that I noticed I am not typical in the community. I found after watching enough content that the typical AFOL is younger than me, I am 40. I have my original Black Knights Castle and remember the yellow boxes. Most AFOLs have nostalgia for sets that released before they were even born (?) and they actually play with their Lego, so play scale works for them. I think you would have more success with play scale even though I personally don't get the appeal.
@the_vav9 ай бұрын
Enjoy the build! its going to be a lot of fun. but i know what you mean about the details of the blacksmith. i should have mentioned that in the video the "play vs accuracy" which is another topic that stems off of the scale. probably for a future video! thanks for watching and sharing :)
@GlowingTrashPanda998 ай бұрын
@@CandyCorn61938 I think part of why so many of us have nostalgia for sets released before we were born is that LEGO lasts so long that it was passed down to us from parents or older siblings/cousins. I know that was the case in my household, we got some of my dad's old sets and some of my much older cousin's sets. Most parents and kids these days are less willing to accept hand-me-downs, in my experience.

You know how old LEGO sets used to have a lot of alternate builds on the back of the box? If I was LEGO, I would make alternate builds bigger and make them connectable to the main set. So if someone bought 2 or 3 of the same set, they could expand the main set with the alternate builds.

scale for the castle is an odd one. Really it's realistic that is should have narrower walkways but it should be much, much taller in the walls to exagerate the effect even further. From a birds eye view the footprint of the blacksmith looks fine next to the castle but seen from an minifigure eye level it just looks silly because it towers over the main part of the castle wall
