I think my biggest gripe with the set is that they didn't give us exclusive sam and frodo, from when they were wearied on their journey. I feel like giving them some grimey haggard faces and tattered torso prints would've gone miles. Oh well, the figs as they are are fine, for the premium prices, we could've gotten exclusive figs

I prefer the old hobbits (aside from the dual colored legs on the new ones) and Gollum. The new Orcs and Gothmog are fantastic! Sauron looks amazing

Yeah I literally swapped Sam’s hair piece with Merry’s. Sam was sandy blonde and Merry was more strawberry sandy blonde in the films. So it works

I think Merry had slightly lighter hair in movies, but I was so used to the old hair pieces that I switched Sam and Merrys in the Rivendell. Now they look better in my opinion.

The old Sam is definitely more accurate to the scene. Honestly Sam was the only figure in Rivendell I felt was downgraded but that’s because he wasn’t as decked out in Rivendell as he was by the end. Sting should have been in the set.

The new orcs are better but otherwise I feel like the printing on all the other old ones were better, especially Gollum. The New Gollum's face looks more like Azog the Defiler's than Gollum's

I highly prefer the old Gollum. Sam and Frodo I also kinda like the old torsos better, plus the capes ofcourse. But I prefer the new legs. For heads I think I like Frodo's new one best but Sam's old one, especially the hair. New Orcs are nice though, old ones were fine, new ones are more detailed. But they're too different to really compare. The mouth is pretty much the exact same, equally good. But the new Sauron is amazing to get. Bit of a shame the eyes don't line up though

I think we are just so used to the old one that the new face just feels off.

When I look at the photo of Gollum from the movie, and Lego was inspired by it when creating its sets, I see that this older minifigure is much more similar to the character from the movie. This new one much less so. I think there are two things that didn't quite work out here. First of all, in the new version they gave up the nose, which gives Gollum character. The second element is the eyes. The new ones look like he has cataracts. The pupils are definitely missing. ;)

yea i say the 2012 figures are the better looking ones honestly, the orcs looks better with those bigger eyes and being closer to each other and perfer old gollum over the newer one, sam is just wrong with that hair color and frodo is basicly the same but small changes

Finally legs like the video game buuuuut... Gollum looks so weird now! Idc they better just do something more like the old one because unlike updated Chewie this is just bad, it's giving sonic movie 1st trailer vibes. But Sauron, Gothmog and Everyone else look phenomenal! Maybe one day we'll get Edoras or mumakil for Théoden King (rip Bernard Hill) and the Witch-King of Angmar

I got a custom Sauron that armor goes over Lego torsos and legs and head and the mace is more accurate to movie than what Lego did and the helmet looks so great not official Lego but so good

The lack of capes across lego now is dissapointing. Wizards, Jedi, Hobbits, when these characters had capes it really elevated their presence in a way that (often poor) printing cannot replicate

Lego did include capes in this set tho, I think the reason frodo and sam don't have them is to portray a specific point in the film, cause they had their capes in the rivendell set from just a year ago, the only thing that really should've been done was new more tattered torso prints for them both

I definitely like the new figures more, I get that some people see them as a downgrade for having less detail but to me they've really refined the details into a cohesive style that works across all their themes, I just wish sauron had the tall legs

Some figures they nailed and others are clearly to save money, insane that the set costs so much and they put such little effort into the hobbit figures and some of the printing, 2012 you can see the effort put in by designers and LEGO and since then it’s just taken backward steps only

Old hobbits look better, they were taking things serious and in fear nearly 80% of the films, the new ones look too jolly. I like some of the updates to the Orcs but you didn't show the uruk-hai which were way better back in the day. Thanks for the fun video.
