Of course a Lego 1:1 Saturn V could sustain its own weight. Lego bricks are tough that way. You might have to build it inside, though, as it probably wouldn't have the tensile strength to resist even moderate wind.

One thing I appreciated while building this set that I haven't seen anyone touch on in a review yet is that not only is the internal scaffolding interesting, it also simulates the two different internal fuel tanks for each stage. You don't see that from the assembled views.

Santa is actually based on a space station in geostationary orbit over the North Pole. Presents are manufactured and assembled in microgravity, using materials harvested from an unknown exoplanet. The completed gifts are then de-orbited individually, and landed using instantly-biodegradable parachutes and heat shields made of gift-wrap. Presents destined for naughty children are de-orbited without a wrapping/heat shield, left to burn in reentry, and resemble coal by the time they reach ground. (The whole "reindeer and a flying sleigh" thing is just a cover story to satisfy the incessant curiosity of the world's children.)

I never sorted pieces, dump in box and go! The last set i ever bought was the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Rouge Shadow set and saw the numbered bags and was like, wtf is this, where is the fun or challenge in having each step in numbered bags? Best memory building was when i built a set by flash light or maybe it was a full moon, when i should have been sleeping.

I'm late here but my wife just ordered me this set, looking forward. End of last month the wife got me the ucs millennium falcon, over 7500 parts. Well I just finished it tonight, took just over 3 weeks and was the 1st major set I've ever done. I played with these in the 80's as a kid and loved them. Now 47 and had a blast. She also ordered me the ISS nasa space station and the entire star wars helmet collection. I had a great bday this year and an awesome wife.

I remember getting this last year as an early Christmas gift during Thanksgiving and I got the entire thing built in 6 hours once I got home from my dorm for Winter Break. It's such a cool set. I think it's also the heaviest and largest set I have to date.

I built a standard plastic one of those about 40 years ago, I think it's close to 3 feet tall, and I still have it. It had the panels on the 3rd stage that folded down and the LEM was inside, its legs articulated, overall really cool. Another cool thing I discovered is how the capsule is almost a perfect fit inside the nozzle of the F1 main engines. Makes me want to go play with the thing now but I'm afraid I'll see how my painting was way worse than yours was.

Bought this recently at a "nice" premium; since it's been out of production for a while already. Set was unopened, and doesn't disappoint anywhere. Just finished the first stage and, just to have it laying on its side comfortably (with added glue-on felt), I opened and finished the 12th bag. Includes the moonlander and the capsule floating in the ocean. I also have the bigger Apollo 11 moonlander and it's great comparing both! I look forward to completing it, and please boys and girls - keep it out of the sun, because it WILL turn yellow if you do.

Actually, Scott, correct "minifig-scale" depends on who you ask. Some calculate it as the height of a minifig being 6 feet, making the scale 1 LEGO Unit = 1.2 ft, or 1:42, but that makes minifigs incredibly wide scale-wise. As far as I can tell, many more LEGO fans (and possibly LEGO themselves, for many things) set minifig scale more at 1:38, or 1 LEGO Unit = 1 foot. Not only is it easier to calculate what distance or length in-scale a LEGO thing is, but it also allows you to make minifig-scale LEGO builds somewhat larger, allowing for somewhat more detail and internal space. Sure, it makes (hat/hairless) minifigs 5 feet tall in their own scale, but in my opinion, it is far superior in most other ways, including those I've mentioned, compared to the 1:42 minifig scale.

both of those objects would be in the 10,000 piece range and weigh over 50 lbs if they were to be scaled to the Saturn V. The greatest achievement of Man is one thing to sell in a kit, its another to build the architecture around it for sale.

the recent shuttle kit comes with a crawler tho it's probably about half as big as would be scale.

I build it too. I loved it. It was my 7th Legoproject. I also build the Lunarlander set. The only thing I don't like about Lego is stepping on a brick.

Since the engines on the S-II and S-IVB burned hydrogen, these flames should be blue, NOT orange!
@KingdaToro
@KingdaToro 6 жыл бұрын
Clear, actually. Hydrogen flame is pretty much invisible, especially in space. Methane is what burns blue.

Adam Ahmed hydrogen flames are a very, VERY pale but visible blue, and I’m pretty sure LEGO has a transparent cyan that would do the job.

Yeah that's not Amazon per se, that's the resellers who have store fronts on Amazon. Just be patient and don't reward those people.

My two favorite things! So I've seen a few people complain about the $120 price, and I'd like to explain that this is pretty cheap for what you're getting. Most lego sets go for about 10 cents a brick, and at roughly 1,900 pieces, the base price should have been $190. Also, there aren't any stickers in this set, which means they used printed pieces. And this set uses a lot of them. You also have a lot of small parts in a new gun metal grey color, so that's should have increased the price. Also throw in the Micro figures (lego hasn't made them in yeeeeaaars) and the new printing for them, the set should be going for about 300 bucks. So yeah, $120 is a lot, but LEGO went the extra mile on this. And I believe it more than justifies the price. Really, the only bad thing about this set is that the lander is connected by only one stud. (the fez piece is notorious for having a loose connection).

If you wanted to build a Moon to the same scale as this rocket, it would be 34km across. I have just built this set and it's amazing. Time taken, 10.5 hours in four sessions. I notice your manual has more pages, maybe due to multi-languages, mine has 182 pages. Also the text on your box is slightly different. I'm in the UK and my set came from John Lewis.
