Hi Ben, thank you for this video, I enjoy setting up my own scenes, just like this, but have not considered trying to emulate a firey background, it was awesome to see. I would love to see more toy photography. Thank you

More Lego or toy set ups please. I love the way you can build a story and be in total control of the lighting and effects. I'm all fired up now ..... sorry!

Another brilliant video Ben, no pun intended. This is not something I would attempt but seeing how you construct your lighting setup is another great learning tip. Keep up the great work.

Hi, an excellent video. I'm new to Adaptalux and to toy photography. This video will help me creating some Lego Star Wars scenes. I share your idea of creating special effects right in the scene and not in post production.

Hi Ben, one of the best videos so far. I agree in engineering the scene instead of using photoshop, much more satisfying even tho it can be fiddly ! I’ve done stage lighting so the tips here are correct for lighting the characters. I haven’t got legos but will definitely use the tin foil trick to set other things on 🔥 Love the rescue cat shot with the blue light from the fire truck, great detail. From Andrea (Australia 🇦🇺😎)

As usual, thank you for your kind and encouraging remarks Andrea. I'd be really interested to know if you end up using the effect for other types of shots, let me know!

Most excellent video, Ben! Yes, I hope you DO use more Legos (or even some HO scale figures if you have any?) for some future videos. That said, I can't quite tell what lens you used. (if you mentioned the lens, I totally missed it) Was this some sort of zoom? It doesn't seem like your regular macro lens. So, yes to more Lego, or your action figures or even HO scale figures if you have them. Cheers!

Nice to see you Randy! It was a 100mm f2.8 Tokina macro lens. No zoom, but it's able to focus both close up and to infinity so you can just move it back as far as you need in order to frame your shot. I have plans to do some figures at some point soon, though I don't have any yet. I was looking at 00 gauge, but it's tricky to find nicely finished ones for closeups.

Great video and final images, thanks - it's amazing what one can do with those lights; I've been using them quite a bit recently and am really enjoying the extra control it gives me over my images. And yes, although proficient in Photoshop, I love to set an image up so that there is minimal effort required at the computer stage; just a bit of levels and cloning out the inevitable annoying bits of dust. For me, adding physical lights to my builds and then the eventual photographic lighting and photography itself are extensions to the actual LEGO build experience, and it's a great way to put your own stamp on what is essentially a mass-produced toy. So it's a yes from me - more LEGO vids please :-)

I enjoy all your hints, thanks for doing this. I just discovered one could purchase just the Lego figures online! I have found and used figurines made for train sets, they are more realistic, but also more expensive. The Lego figures are more whimsical and add an interesting touch to the scene. I'd be interested in seeing more toy setups also!

Thanks Lynn, glad you enjoyed the video. You are spot on with regards to railway figures vs LEGO. Personally I have loved LEGO since childhood so it's a no brainer for me, but I'm going to try some other figures in the future too. If you wanted some LEGO minifigures, there should be tonnes of used ones on eBay with a huge variety of fun themes :)
