I wasn't really a bowler when I was a kid, however the closest arcade to my house was in the bowling alley, and I went there all the time. This brought back a lot of memories. They had one of the best greasy cheeseburgers in existence, and was right next to the movie theater to boot. I even bowled a few times.

I just don't understand why they couldn't make this and the construction site more available for retail purchase? Something I would like to see is once a designed set reaches the max vote mark, is let the counter keep going to see how many more potential buyers there could be. Maybe it might allow a bit more increase for retail production?

I'm in the middle of building mine. I modified it by adding 10 studs to the length of the alleys (they looked too short to me), raising the alleys by one plate relative to the "gutters" so that the gutters are lower than the alleys, and adding jumpers here and there to hold down bowling pins, minifigs, and bowling balls. I had most of the parts, only had to buy a handful of tan 1x tiles. Now I have to figure out how to integrate a roof extension to cover the additional length. I think I have enough gray plates and whatnot for that. Oh...and I put it on a MILS plate. Like all my buildings now. Much more sturdy.

Great set, if in the LEGO Store I'd grab one! Getting my hands on various LEGO Ideas sets can be challenging enough, so I won't torture myself with these types of sets. Hmm, to keep loose items put, I'm thinking a drop of rubber cement. Have to try it to see if any discolouring occurs of the bricks.

I would throw in some marbles that could be rolled slower yet have the momentum to get strikes. I'd also make a bunch of new minifigs inspired by various bowling movies, like The Big Lebowski and Kingpin. Looks like you have a triangle rack for setting up the pins but didn't talk about it. Could make a rig out of plastic straws perhaps, to drop all the pins down and then gently lift the rig up. I _think_ a typical straw's inner diameter would be the perfect width for this, but I'm not sure.
@alexnunes2 жыл бұрын
Good catch on the triangle rack. I totally spaced it in the review. I like your suggestion on setting them up. Might need to give that a try.

Great review, Alex! I do hope we haven't seen the last of the Bricklink Designer Program. There are a few impressive Lego Ideas that have made it through to review stage, that, alas, I think have minimal to no chance of becoming official Lego sets (i.e. modular/building-orientated sets), but which I think would be ideal for a future crowdfunding round, were the Bricklink Designer Program to continue.

I was fortunate to get this (but was less lucky with Round 3, where, for whatever reason, my orders for the Construction Site and 50s Diner didn't properly go through...😠). I still haven't built it yet, since I'll need to MILS it (and MILS pieces are so expensive, especially for two base plates!), and find some room for the finished model, but I do look forward to adding it to my own city some day. I'm deliberating on whether to remove the diner and add some bathrooms in that space, instead, since the latter facilities strike me as more essential, and I'm not yet sure I'll build a second floor. I'm keeping the arcade section, however, since I purchased some custom stickers for Space Invaders and the T2 arcade game, to fit on two of the machines, and I look forward to adding my custom Big Lebowski minifigs (Lebowski and Walter) to the bowling alley, eventually.

I like the use of the space inside the building(bowling alleys, kitchen and flooring area). I have one small gripe with the bowling shoes on the racks. Why a 1x1 flat piece stacked on top of a 1x1 piece? Personally I think using a rounded-side 1x1 piece stacked on top of a 1x1 piece would be better looking to depict a shoe. You could also just use a 1x1 rounded male hinge piece(I'm probably not describing that right, but I hope you know what I mean). You should be able to wedge 2 together in each slot(which it appears to be a 1x2 fitting) so it doesn't move around as much In regard to stabilizing the colored bowling balls, couldn't you just use 1x2 jumpers or 1x3 double jumpers pieces to hold the bowling balls in place?
@alexnunes2 жыл бұрын
I totally got what you meant on the shoes. I was picturing it and I thought that would have been a better representation. And your idea on the 1x3 jumper is exactly what I thought of as well, but those are not too common in my collection, let alone in the right color. Thanks!

@Thrillmaster1002 жыл бұрын
Looking at the density of detail this set has, it does feel disappointing at times to see what lego does with seemingly more minimal work with their own sets. However, i will point out that alot of adults seem to miss or overlook is the fact that sometimes lego tries to meet in the middle with making adult aimed sets but also sets for younger kids to build as well. The perfect example of this is the new Christmas main street set. It is disappointing to alot of people because it's not nearly as complex as other sets might be yet they are trying to meet in the middle with appealing to both adults and younger kids like teenagers etc. Are there certain sets made just for adults because of the complexities, yes. So, i do agree that something like this not being approved for the adult fans is very upsetting. This goes back to my objections of how the Lego ideas system works and how poorly operated it is because of people getting their hopes up for something like this only to have it turned down.

Yes, it seems like they could easily have replaced those flat tiles with studded tiles. Might be a fairly easy mini-moc to make that change. As far as the shoe boxes - maybe a little glue stick.
@GregOrCreg2 жыл бұрын
It would have been nice to have studs to hold the shoe boxes and the bowling balls, but as for the pins, I think it makes sense that they're loose, seeing as knocking them down is partly the point, assuming one wants to occasionally play with the set as well as display it. But I do accept that they seem quite fiddly to put back in place, without any studs to hold them down.
