You could do a "subterranean" parking garage for the amusement park.
@rogerjones22 күн бұрын
I think most of your roads in the city blocks are designed well. The one around the Kwik Mart is a little much simply because there doesn't seem to be room to have buildings on the other side of the street. That makes it seem road heavy. I would have the road coming from the city T-junction into the road coming from the mountain. Have the road from the mountain come straight toward the railroads and when it gets one baseplate from the railroads, have that street turn toward the amusement park. One street connecting all 3 aspects and you have plenty of room to put buildings on both sides of the street. That's one reason why the rest of your downtown looks so good. Every street (save for the perimeter) has buildings on both sides of the street.

@oldman-zr2ru basically every other pab wall has about half as many bins, if you count them, his store has way more than most, because of this they also have far more variety because three separate pab walls will have a lot of the same bricks duplicated, his will not because it's all in one store

Why not use single lane roads around some areas, one way streets if you can't visualize without roads. 27:46 Still to many roads, why do you need a circular circuit.
@rogerneptune914522 күн бұрын
Here's my 2 cents: If you really want to do an angled road for the heck of it, do it from the railroad track side and bring back the train station... that'll take up some of the empty space created by the angle, and you'll have less building-backs facing you as you walk up to it. Also for the angled area, it might be interesting to create an alleyway to get access to some buildings. And if you start believing "too many roads", you could make some dead-end roads to get more space back for buildings. Last thought, for the new P-dropoff, I recommend the first sidewalk-corner get rounded off. Thanks for all the great content!!!

Your city grid design with a river is typical Roman design. Been done that way for at least two thousand years and I like it. Barry
@gabbygirl129222 күн бұрын
I think the angled road is a waste of space and parts that you could use for something else. This idea would be more difficult but if you want change things up maybe try a roundabout and create something in the center that’s eye catching. If you have a drone maybe get a bird’s eye view of the city. It might give you a better sense of what the city’s layout looks like. You might get more ideas and see what the grid of the city looks like. Just a thought!
@steves996422 күн бұрын
I love your street grid in the original downtown, but something seems a little off with the now expanded section. I'm sure that's because it was slated for residential zoning, but now that you've decided on it being an extension of your downtown what's wrong with continuing the grid? It seems like a large undertaking to add building density to the expanded road layout, so maybe a structure with a larger and more unique footprint would make the most sense. And by that I'm talking about an arena where your Oilers play host. And who knows, maybe my Rangers are in town for a visit. I feel like something substantial with the amusement park as a backdrop could work and be served by the train as well. All in all your city is breathtaking. That canal is exceptional and your recent change to the elevated residential area has really added some variety, while at the same time adhering to your city's zoning requirements. But most of all hold on to that joy and don't let any comments wear you down. It speaks volumes that so many have become so invested in your work, myself included.
@timfolly732322 күн бұрын
I can see both sides of the roads argument. I do appreciate good viewing angles and more opening to see buildings. Some cities, due to size constraints, are packed in and so much detail and stories are not visible and lost. I think this topic is just up to personal preference. I do want to say not everything in LEGO has to be logical or make sense from a realistic perspective. We get to suspend reality and do what we want and what looks good even though it’s contrary to the real world. It’s ok to break the rules.
@RobertSonger-c7b22 күн бұрын
I am not usally a commenter , but why do a parking lot. Why don;t you build a parking garage and make it unique styling maybe like ningago or medevil in design (especially near a amusement park.. a medevil fortress would be interesting and funny way to hide the parking garage just a fiscade. Something eye catching but function. every downtown core would have somewhere. t, maybe two or three levels. you have all that space as in nine plates
@oldman-zr2ru22 күн бұрын
Just because you can make an angled road doesn't mean you should. IMO the angle will just throw the rest of the city layout off kilter and make it a pain to add other buildings later. Just my opinion.
@nateywatey269421 күн бұрын
Perhaps, where some roads loop in a circle, you could cut off one of the lengths and replace the roads with walkable city structures, e.g. benches, green space, market stalls, etc.. I would take inspiration from the proposals made in London to close traffic on Oxford Street. This then allows you to achieve see the front of buildings, sufficient space between them, and easily replaces the existing infrastructure in a city-accurate way.
@dinibo21 күн бұрын
It's funny the things people complain about. I love the scale and style of your builds. Bricksie world has small orderly blocks with lots of room for street stories and cool vehicles. It's the details that make you unique and the small blocks aid that. Plus its going to take a while to accumulate more modulars. Roads look nice and neat and can be moved later. Build. Destroy, repeat. No need to crowd everything now when you have so much time and work ahead of you!

Keep the roads for stories and vehicles, and keep it a grid for your downtown area and do funky things with the dirt road in the countryside area where it’s easier to do so. Also if you put any modular buildings on an angled road with a different mils plate design you’d have to change to your regular mils design if you wanted to rearrange or get rid of the angled road.

Something that could go in the “new” section of the city could be a custom apartment building or grocery store. It could be designed so it looks good from the angle on the outside of the table and through the access hole.
@Angrist1722 күн бұрын
I *really* think you should adopt a direction for "North" in the city. It would make it easier to discuss orientations and designs if we could say the "Quik 'e 'Mart is facing East now, if you turn it and face North instead you can fit X next to it". The progress is nice to see and it's cool to hear your thought process on these design choices. My suggestion is to run the road near the tunnel off the table and "virtually" through the standing hole. Then you can have modular buildings facing the hole where you can still see them well. Two baseplates later it comes out parallel to the amusement park wall. That gets you another nice block.

You’re completely fixated on the 32x32 mills system! There is your problem that you’re having over the entire city! Just make a 64x64 mills plate, or 128x128 plate. 256x256 plate? A skyscraper is never going to fit in the countryside or amusementpark, and the A-frame house is never going to be in the downtown area! So why make them interchangeable?? Just consider the downtown as one single big mills plate, this way you can even adjust the height or even make the entire downtown sit at an angle. It would open up so much possibilities and you only loose a little bit of useless flexibility from the mills system.
