If you're going to use LEGO rope (string) anyways, may as well just remove all the hinge parts and replace them with 1x2 plates. Make a jig to square up all the panels, face down, then lay your strings two studs left and right off of center, then secure each panel to each string using the 1x2 plates, then secure the ends of the strings to your axel, as usual. The door should be lighter as much cheaper in parts.
