No, they know. They simply calculated that money would not make up for the hit their brand/image would take. Are they right? I don't know. But "no military toys" is a long-held principle of the company, dating back from its founders, and while that have softened their approach over the decades, that principle is still there. Also, I disagree that more violence = more mature. Real adults don't need to fight to resolve conflicts.
@GreenBlueWalkthrough25 күн бұрын
@@alexandredesbiens-brassard9109 I mean true but I don't think Lego is doing the numbers right... As the sets they did cancel or even pull people loved and cost them a untold amount of money only to instesd make fans angry and watste all that money and time lego keeps telling us they can't afford when ever they do something we don't like... Like I highly dodut pulling guns from a Lego police station set will do anything but make it fail as even if the set was worth it's expensive price with guns I dodurt that anyone would want to fix ot which is insany easy to as they hate the idea of it that much like tis is so much worse then having only stickers and no prints which can mae sense... And make fans angry or worse buy not legos who really don't care about armed lego minifigs or Milltary themes... Also Homo sapains by large love conflict and most love their milltary even just the idea of it more then there sports teams... This includes kids by the way who are the main audnce of wargames and toy weapons... So lego not having any dedicated milltary theme is fine but not having guns in a Lego city police set based on the cops and robbers game that all kids or all up brings have played makes no sense. Unless lego is that out of touch or just hates fans and money or wants to experience what failure is like as if it missed the near bankrupt state it had in the '00s... Also Lego has listened to the fans want for warthemes before... after the First mars theme the rest have been about a war on mars... a departure from the first theme that was about peaxfull cohabition on Mars with Huymans and the natives and was one pof the few Lego themes after the modern minifig to not have weapons of any kind... But seeing that most kids played with those sets as if it was a war theme like most Legos themes where before that time which all the Classic theme are by the way... They gave the kids what they wants in the following mars themes... So yeah the reason why when Lego does somthing like this just makes people angry is because they do it in way that is net ngitive for them and us... Unlike the first mars mission which was done in a positive way being one of the very few themes lego has made wholy peacfull... So yeah if Lego wants to makes themes and sets that are wholly peacefull sure just do stuff that is net negative for everyone involved...
@GreenBlueWalkthrough25 күн бұрын
@@Nightprideenclave_studio I mean you say that noinbg full well lego city has had guns since forrever and this is the first set in a long time to need them and they be apsent... Like if lego wanted peace full Lego city set litterly this was the worse one to not put guns in... Like what major city police station doesn't atleast have an armory irl? Like even if they are break in case of anb emerncy which I guess is the case in Loden they still have one incase they are getting seiged or the milltary needs help or is unavble... Also where do all those cops in the other current lego city sets get and maiantian their guns? privaitly or something? Also Lego city pulice has always been based on a generic amercain police department and nothing else... Which what America police department does have guns and even body armor at this point? So yeah also how Denmark got conquered is peacefully the nazis said it was their turn and simply were like "about time my lord and svor!" Like this wasn't France where the Nazis fuaght restance and had to convince France to surnder and they begrugly did so with most frendhmen not giving in... But Denmark it was not even a puch over nore a speed buymp they lead out the welcome mat and were fine with the "conquest"... I mean it was the plan to stay alive and it did work but still what saved them when most of Denmark was beginning to have doudts and ttheir restence that mostly was a railroad out of Nazi territory for people the nazied hated like Jews and was actively being hinted by the Denmark govermnt for it on behaf of the nazis no questions asked... It was the US and freinds who came to save them using wholly volance like the liberation of demark in WW2 wasn't peacefull in the slightest it was the US steamrolling the last bit a nazis outside Germany tied up loss ends if you will... Which the Denmark government seemly disliked when they liked it more when the nazis showed up... So yeah alot of Denmark';s people are extermly thankfull of the US for their aid and have an undying love of us for it like Japan does... Even today I can't imiang what it was like for those who lived at the time of their liberation... Buy there is and was small group in demark who hate the US becuase wee "ruined" their plan ior the fact we didn't use any kind of diplomacy at all... Or just prefored Nazi rule for some reason that can't be good... So yeah kinda makes me no feel; good about the politics of Legos founders... Not that it matters anymore as Lego has lonmg since moved past them only remberinmg them for their founding and the quote they gave for the moto... Also even the most dire hard lego fan only thinks of them as a foot note in legos history so they beyond their place in history and wuote don't matter to modern day lego... And are the opsite of Walk Disney and henry ford who both died long before Lego had it's modern identry and both are intertweened with their copnies even now many dacdes after their death when they desends besrly have any infuncle on their company as a whole... I think Star Wars is not pushing their boundaries too much, but Indiana Jones is, and that's where this gets murky. The original classic and existing Space lines are pretty SWzy, and the Castle themes are obviously taking cues from D&D, Tolkien, Michael Moorcock, World of Warcraft, etc. I don't think lego will be ever make CoD sets, but thats what cystoms are for. I feel like the best way to do war or war-adjacent sets would be something fantastical, like Fallout. Like their Mega Bloks Halo line was super successful with a bunch of game-accurate figures, weapons, vehicles. Me and my friends always saw Mega Bloks as the more mature option when we were kids and they had a bunch of sets on the Lego aisles in Target and Walmart so it's not like other kids weren't buying them too. Then they started making sets off other M-Rated games like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, and they also had a couple Terminator sets. On the one hand, the concept of not wanting weapons in "realistic" sets may also be admirable (although City may be considered a plausible theme)... it is a pity however that in those linked to fantasy themes there are rifles and pistols, both lasers than not, or the swords and various sidearms of ninjago or monkie kid. Just because they are bladed weapons, doesn't mean they aren't linked to violence. Lego's double standard, curiously, also applies to the concept of reluctance to represent sacred places or icons...yet, again in Monkie Kid there are deities belonging to the Chinese Confucian/Taoist/Buddhist pantheon.

Kids want guns for sure. The main demographic of Fortnite and Call of Duty are kids, so the sets don't need to be "mature" to have guns. Its a WW1 Fighter plane, but Lego kept it cool with the box art and theming and focused solely on the aircraft itself than the conflict it fought in. And it worked; didn't cause a controversy at all. I think more "light"-military sets like this would work, like smaller historic vehicles that perhaps didnt have a direct fighting role per se, like recon/transport planes or minelayer ships.

1:49 And even that doesn't make any sense whatsoever, they have made a few Osprey's in the past without trouble, I think some higher at lego said something along the lines of "Nah fuck our fanbase let's pull this set from stores and watch the funny numbers go up, lol"

This reminds me of K'nex's Mechwarrior line from the 2000's. That company has a similar policy, but the lead for that project was able to "sneak" it through under the radar and release multiple waves. Sadly, the higherups eventually found out, and both he and his line got the axe.

I’m gonna be honest I don’t understand why this is such a problem for some people. Is an anti war or violence policy a bad thing? I wouldn’t want my kids idealizing military. Star wars is different, it’s obvious to anyone to see it’s made up. There nothing wrong with adults like legos, hell I do. But in the end it’s highly marketed towards kids. Like you said there are companies that make gun lego compatible pieces so why not get those?

From what I remember, there was nearly no diffrence for me in fictional and real conflicts when talking about lego. Playing with lego is imagining fictional scenarios about what is happening during play. Does barraging lego building with missles from Snake-Heli make it less violent than from Apache? For kid me answer was no. What"s the diffrence beetween made up military equipment and soliders and real from kids perspective? In kids playroom AAT and Abrams are equally realistic: both are plastic toys and both are capable of commiting war crimes on civilians in scenarios imagined by kid. The fact that second one actually exists changes... nothing

@skynet3542 just the idea of a lego abrams is inherently political. Star wars ships have never killed anyone in real life or been used to fight wars against real countries.

@@Em90000l there is litterally 0 diffrence if real machines killed someone irl and star wars not. It doesn't affect at all how children will play with it

@skynet3542 so there's no difference between making sets based on star wars (kids movies) and making sets based on Iraq and Afghanistan for example? Kids not seeing the difference between those two things would be the actual problem. They should learn about the real world properly before it becomes something they play with. Unless you want them to be desensitised and see actual, real war as a game.
@skynet354218 күн бұрын
@@Em90000l kids play video games. They know that there was ww2 and some middle east wars but don't know destails(ok as like many adults also don't know lol). When I was 11, Panther was a cool tank, there were some conflicts in middle east but me and my peers didn't care about that but wars/conflicts were popular topic in diffrent plays/games. They still are among kids. They are using irl weapons in CoD and CS, War Thunder Lego with fictional wars doesn't make magically kids play more... more what? Peaceful? Why playing with model of real tank would make children desesensitised and pro war or something? Playing with fictional tank won't do it?

Especially in the games. The Skywalker Saga was so afraid to do anything remotely violent, they barely acknowledge Order 66, Alderaan, etc, and when they do it's played for a joke. Darth Maul's defeat became a joke. Dooku's death was done as fast as possible to avoid lingering on it. Anakin's defeat was a joke. They can have funny moments, but they need to be done when it's appropriate, and they need to be serious at serious moments

I 100% agree with the untapped market sentiment. Take a look at MegaConstrux for example. Their most popular theme is Halo. The reason why is because the games are amazing, the vehicles and characters are cool. Imagine of Lego did something like that.

Also about that osprey thing... Like not only makes you wonder why Lego would partner with one of the biggest contractors in the US's milltray industry complex and the biggest milltary contactor in dozens of conytries.. Not to mention milltary sales is what got boeing started and is half of their sales esdpacly when the the air travel industry cools off at times... And then cancel that set as it was making it to store shelves and was on them... also it had only positive reactions from fans and still does and only made fans angry when it was pulled from store shalves over a fixable nonproblem... Also Lego has made Osperey like vehicles from time to time even when the osprey was in early production and nothing like it was is massproduction... It's that way by the way... Also Ospreys have NOT been armed yet in any way they are stickly transports and a non milltary one which acconcpt of a search a reascue one was the set in question... Which is odd for a US milltary transport as the vast majority of them get armed at somepoint or have a plan too or are so few it doesn't make sense too... Like even the C-130 hrcules has the ability to drop the larest none nukes out the back and whipe out an entire air fiorce by it's self by dropping a container of missles out the back... Not to mmention the gunship version of it... Also Lego commonly uses other boeing designs for it's airliners like I can't think of any official Lego jet airliner design that isn't a boeing although to be fair you can easly confuse them for a airbus like that is any better as Airbusses also has a massive milltary production line bbeing the main choice in Air force supply for all of Europe for the past few dacades.. when they don't buy American mostly Boeing that is... And also Boeing airlines have tons of milltray versions both armed and un armed heck the first choice for the US to make am airborne laser super weapon was a 747 and the current Airforce 1s are boieing 747s and are very milltary in purpose and likely very much armed. So yeah very odd that Lego pulled that set as like if it didn't want to make it then put make an massive investment have it being sold in retail then pull it when it was a set people loved and still love which they now think is another move that tarnishes lego? It makes no sense like i get it if their was amassive backlash and no one liked that set... But the realty was it was the complete opsite reaction... Like why pull a set that is a massve hit when you know pulling it will get people angery and they won't forget not to mention waste all that money and boeing time? Like it makes no snes at all even not having guns in a Lego polic station set can mae sense even if it's a terrible idea...
