I've lived in Japan for ten years (still do) but buying Lego in Japan isn't too special outside of the Narita International Airport Lego store with its giant Lego murals, and the odd Lego exhibitions like the one in Shibuya Parco in Feb 2020. True there is Legoland Japan and the Lego Outlet at Gotemba near Mt. Fuji but again, nothing too special or crazy. Used Lego can be found at Mandarake Shibuya and at Nakano Broadway (I much prefer the Nakano Broadway branch since it's a much bigger multi-floor building), along with other retro and vintage toys to include SH Figuarts, Figma, and Transformers. I would recommend Mandarake Nakano Broadway the next time you're in Tokyo.

As I make this comment, I'm only at 4:12 into the video. I was thinking that some stores have items arranged by theme, such as new LEGO, then classic LEGO or in the retro area. I've been to an antique toy "mall" in Indiana in the nineties and it was organized by theme and by consignment. So I'm very interested in this video. It brings back so many great memories of my young adulthood years finally getting out on my own, especially since my parents restricted my knowledge of things that they knew that I would want.😂❤️ I didn't know in my childhood years that there were Star Wars soundtrack albums.... guess that meant no eardrums were harmed in my household growing up. I love to tell these stories of a deprived childhood but it made me more appreciative of these things. Toys should actually be considered a form of technology since they require so much brain power to think outside the realms of our reality to conceive, If that is the correct way to put it. I remember watching The Thief of Baghdad and being amazed. There are so many things in that movie that make me dream of those far away places. It's as great as Star Wars!

There are several Mandrakes in Japan. The one I went to, had a closed off glass display that had extremely rare sets, the first modulars, pirates, castle, and space, sealed in box. Those were the only ones I remembered, but it was a whole glass display.

This is oddly satisfying, I feel like I went on a mini vacation watching! I’ve never been to Japan or Korea- but if I ever have the chance, I would absolutely go. Looks like you had a great time! Now I want to go to the lego store & get a bunch of BAM stuff & 2 copies of the lego store set- it’s in stock at my local store- Yet I haven’t found it online. I also fully agree that America needs to get their transit system cleaned up & updated! I live a little bit south of Boston (near the lego resale store you’ve been to) & they’re currently trying to update the trains- but every time they update something, the next day the news has multiple stories of how things went wrong.. lol. I also would appreciate a lego store in the train stations lol

Hidden Side School and Castle are indeed wonderful sets. You can get them still pretty cheap bc the app with the ghost catcher game doesn't work anymore. Lego pulled the plug on it last month, but the sets as is are strong enough without app support.

I live in Korea, but there aren't many special things in Seoul. I visited Hong Kong during Lunar New Years after 3 years. I found more Lego sets there. There are places where you can buy Lego sets cheaper than Certified Lego Stores in Hong Kong. Most Lego sets are cheaper than Korea. If you ever visit Hong Kong, I can tell you interesting places where you can shop Lego.

@@ababab589 The one big upside is there are literally like 7 Lego stores within a reasonable distance of each other in Tokyo. Outside of that, we have Toy R Us too. I honestly often just wait for sales on Amazon if I am not trying to get a gift with purchase or in store exclusive. The releases are often much later to Japan though, especially with CMF.

I love your Tokyo LEGO haul! It's better to get those than a big set anyway. They'll be a memory amongst the others that stands out. I can spend 2 hours in a Half Price book store and still feel like I'm missing something. If I was ever in a store similar to Mandarake Shibuya, after 2 hours my brain would separate from my body and fly out in space... "I have knowledge that spans this universe. And... in all this order... all this magnificence... awe... delight... beauty.." 😂😂🪐🌌🎬 If you've ever seen Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Not really. I've lived here in Japan for ten years and buying Lego here is honestly not too special or different from the US. I mostly buy Lego from their US site and US Amazon, and just ship it over to me. With the favorable (strong) US dollar to (weak) Japanese yen exchange rate, buying from Japanese Amazon and brick-and-mortar stores can be slightly cheaper but not overly so. The only special promotion within recent memory for Japanese Lego was the Architecture Tokyo Skyline set coming with a free bonus sakura cherry blossom tree mini-build for a limited time only about three years ago (before the travel bans hit for real). It's a cute side build but, again, nothing mind blowing. I have both displayed on my bookshelf.
