I realize that in the rendered video the difference in apparent color between the canopy print and the red plastic is far less obvious than in person.

The stripe still shows and tells me that double layer print would have given much better result. I am no print expert but once the color is satisfied, i don´t think a stripe would started showing again. (It would be 4 layers down that centre stripe vs 2 elsewhere)

Speed champions is a brilliant line with excellent designs but its fatal flaw always seems to be the low print and sticker quality. Many vehicles that would have been total beauties seem to completely fall flat on the printed and stickered parts aspect. It makes me wonder if lego itself needs to overhaul how it manufacturers prints and stickers as a whole considering just how much they detriment so many otherwise beautiful and nearly perfect sets

I don't know why they didn't just go with red 1x2 tiles on the sides of the headlights, I feel like that would even match the actual car better anyways. Easy fix though.

Not more stickers, never ask for more stickers ;) the 2x1 tile is an acceptable solution, but print is more high end, it then should be done right though.

When I was building it, I thought using the extra Ferrari logos inside felt like a waste of the set's budget. I didn't think about how it might help to get more on the parts available on the market. That's right, that would be the only way, since you can't buy licensed pieces from Pick-a-Brick or Bricks & Pieces.

Thought so, but on the real car the headlights go all the way to the sides and even wrap around the edge a little bit, so with a tile it would have looked wrong.

That's the first thing I changed when I built mine. It makes zero sense why it's a printed tile, as on the real car, there isn't any headlights viewed from the side at all.

I finally built this last night. Really fun, especially the upside-down parts of the construction and how they come together above the back wheels to improvise that curved back fender part! Love getting the hairpiece and the figure is great. Would love for Lego to release sets like this in multiple colors. The red is nice, but imagine blue, purple and black too! good review, Jang:)

Don't get your hopes up, the 1x1's with Ferrari print are all like that to avoid customer complaints that happened with the previous set due to mixing up printed with unprinted ones. No fan service whatsoever. Those 5 parts cost nothing for TLG. Strange that you find these red prints unsatisfactory but weren't bothered that much about the Countach windscreen which is really ruining the whole look of the otherwise all-white car.

Hi, I'm definitely sure those red 1x1 extras with the Ferrari logo print are not fan service. This build also required regular red 1x1 pieces, which could've been easily confused with the printed ones. By printing them all, LEGO made sure you don't mix them up and find out later in the build that you need printed ones and have to take the car apart to reach them. This is 8+ after all, and even adults can easily miss that fine print.

Even when the print of the canopy piece is a bit off, it doesn't bother me as much as with the Countach. That line down the middle though....not so great. And I'd replace those printed tiles just by normal red tiles, looking at the pictures of the real thing that might even look more accurate. Otherwise, I do really like this one, together with the aforementioned Countach this is easily my favorite of the bunch. With better printing quality they would be pretty much perfect. I had hoped to get both already last weekend, but the local toy store didn't have them yet. Try again tomorrow...

Really enjoyed building this last night, big fan of the speed champions line, always seem to amaze me with interesting building techniques, this includes quite a few snot techniques and creative sub assemblies. Certainly for a smaller almost toy car aesthetic, it has some great detail and overall look. Shame about the canopy but still enjoy the finished product. Now to the build the evija tonight!

I find it surprising that they went for a central driving position, when in real life the driver was sitting on the right of the car. You would think that the 8-stud wide design would allow such inaccuracies to be avoided. I'm fine with the narrower canopea tho, as it fits the lego car well

Gotta say, its amazing that you're able to build up all of these models, and provide such professional level consumer reviews on them! For me Lego is a form of therapy for my Ptsd, so it takes me some extra time to really build sets up quickly, so it's always great to be able to see what the pieces *will* become when I'm finally able to finish it! I just bought this and it is a masterful build. The mechanic used fir the angkes at the front are really an outside the vix approach. And while not 100% accurate, it makes for a very cohesive model in the end, like a Legofied version of the car rather than a recreation of the car using Lego.

With all the issues on prints people keep mentioning i am thinking of just building them as a completely clean build with no prints or stickers lol. It can't be too hard to mod the front end to include a light assembly instead of that lazy sticker idea on so many of these new sets. At least this Ferrari has that aspect covered.

The printed tiles also provide a better build experience. The logo is small enough that you could use it in the wrong place without noticing, then at the moment you need it you find out you need to disassamble the car to swap the non-printed piece with the printed one.

I don't understand why they used those poorly-printed 1x2 tiles on the sides of the headlights. Just regular red 1x2 tiles would've looked just fine since the lights don't extend that far out even on the real thing. Also puzzling that they didn't just use the wider canopy they have available. Maybe it'd looked a little bit too wide but it'd still be more accurate most likely. Still a great-looking model, the tiles on the headlights are an easy thing to fix yourself.. But some odd choices made here.

Since the pictures have been revealed, I was upset by that narrow canopea. Even using the same canopea as the 6 wide studs for the 8 wide studs should have been a better choice. Another set which I won't purchase. I hope the 007 and F&F set from wave 2 SC will be magnificient because even if the Countach is pretty badass, I feel miserable to only get 1 set of Speed Champions in 2022

I wonder if the cost savings of not having to deal with two different red one-stud plates and supplying one more spare unprinted one came into play there. Honestly I got this set on a whim after watching Ford Vs Ferrari and I'm so excited to build it. I've really gotten into the "speed champions" sets lately and just finished the Mercedes AMG F1 set tonight. Really great and challenging builds for a not too bad price

About the canopy : I agree...... But now I'm thinking convert it to a 6 wide then that canopy makes more sense..... I'm tempted to do that now.. It does not need to be 8 wide... I think you could get a way with cutting 2 studs out on each side and in different placed ......

If you're going to replace the transparent tiles at the headlights by regular red ones, use the ones on the front and replace the latter with red slopes (4651524) for a more aerodynamic look (at the cost of a thicker 'border' below the headlights, oh well... you can't have it all).

I used to always think speed campion sets were horrible value (1 car and 1 figure for 20$). But then I built the batmobile from The Batman and realized how complex and how time consuming the build is/can be and now I've actually considered getting some speed champion sets. My only thing I can't get over is how these cars are 8 wide and hold 1 figure and I can make a 4 wide car and that'll hold 1 figure also

Missing 5-spoke wheel inserts cast in gold was a real detail let-down -- so I stole extras from the previous F40 set. That helps. But just swap out the 1x2 printed clear tiles on the nose with opaque red tiles. It looks better; and if you look at historical reference for the 1970 Jackie Ickx 512M #4, it has narrower headlight lenses anyhow. The 1970 512M #4 also didn't have those lower intakes on the grey area preceding the rear wheels, either-- but that's more nitpicky since some later 1971 512Ms did. Also nice to get more of the Scuderia Ferrari 1x1s even though this model never carried SF logos on that area of the car like other, different models of the era did.

Looking at Lego's own reference photo on the box, I do not understand the printed trans black tiles. The headlights in the reference look thinner and further from the sides. Replacing the printed tiles with solid red 1x2 tiles looks more accurate, higher quality, and less expensive for Lego to produce. I recommend anyone who has this set try it out.

This entire wave of Speed Champions is excellent... except the canopies. They lack print quality, and with the shaping of the cars being so good now they also need to introduce a few more canopy pieces. So close to perfect now, just that one last thing. Come on Lego, you can do it!

Why can't LEGO design wider back tires on their SC cars? This set and the Lambo Countach have the same issue. The back tires need to be super wide!

For the red print to look better they’d have to print white under it, but since these are translucent pieces you’d see the white from the other side. That’s probably why they used prints to begin with. You should do a print vs white backed sticker vs clear backed sticker comparison. People like to throw out comments like “wish there were more prints” without fully understanding the pros and cons of each.

How appropriate that you just posted this when I just finished building it! Man, this thing was a complex build! It says 8+ on the box, but I think some 8 year olds might have a hard time with this. I do wonder if some of these Speed Champions use more parts and are more complex than they need to be. I don't think the canopy is printed too bad, at least not on mine, in my lighting. Mine doesn't have as much overlap, either. And if they didn't have a wider canopy, I think this one is fine, even if it's not a perfect match for the real car. The print on the headlight pieces are worse, though. And one of mine has a weird misprint that shows two brighter red shapes that look like commas. Very odd. I might see if LEGO will replace it. I think just some red tiles would work there, but it might make the headlights too narrow. Are these cars out of scale to city buildings? I think their quality and possibly scale matches well with modular buildings, though most would be in the wrong time period, unless you think of the building as being very old but still around. With how you can customize the new road plates, you should be able to make wider roads that these cars will fit on. I have no room or cash to have a big city anyway, though.

Hmmmm this is going to be a no for me, it kinda reminds me more of the 6 wide era in the way of how some proportions are caricaturized rather than reproduced. The canopy is specially bad, perhaps one of the ones they used for the 6 wide cars would have worked better but I'm sure they did experiment with that. Still, it's too narrow and tall for me.

It feels like LEGO's overall quality has dropped recently. Not just here, from 2014 ish onwards, part colour variation, print quality, sticker colour and cutting etc has all dropped. Looking at rebel pilots from the 2000s, the white printed on Orange looks like white, but newer ones look like pink because the print is thinner. I've looked at my sets from 2000s and the grey stickers matched the grey of the bricks. Transparent parts, particularly window screens now scratch so much easier, often coming out the box with marks. Not sure what's happened, whether it's aging tooling, budget adjustments, changes in plastic mixture but TLG really needs to review their manufacturing standards. The designers are putting out some incredible stuff that's just being really let down by awful quality control.

I think the reason they put printing on every 1x1 red plate was because lego saw that when people built it, no one noticed the printing till the printed version was already lodged deep in the set.

Your critique is understandable and yet shows, to what high standards we hold LEGO, which again is quite astonishing. It is meant first and foremost to be a toy for children, and we just need to look back at the improvements the team has made from the first gen 8 stud wide cars. Back then I complained that the late six stud cars were highly intricate builds with unique building techniques, while the new cars seemed overly simple and blocky in their structure. Those points have been completely redeemed in this generation. Your critique is valid, and for its high level of quality in return a compliment to the team, showing which standards they have achieved :)

It's more that they charge a premium price, which means that the product should be premium too. If LEGO didn't charge as much as they did people wouldn't hold as high standards.

Lego does not sell (nor price) most products as toys and/or to be played with any longer, so it is not us as customers and longtime fans who are to be blamed for high standards by Lego. Also i think you are comparing apples to pears in your post: Lego 8 stud wide cars where at that time a new job to the designers and they have learned a lot and achieve pretty amazing results design wise by now. No one complains about that, most of us don't even take it for granted that they manage to come up with these designs also. Where production comes to mind, now there are the problems of Lego not reaching the high standards we are asked to pay for (Lego still promotes itself as being high end/top-notch/best in classs etc). Hope you understand what i mean and where i don't agree with the way you constructed your defense of Lego. 8 stud wide btw is such a short era thus far, Lego has been making not the right production choises for years longer than that.
