I know! I think that at the time of its construction, Lego hadn't yet devised a better strategy to hold the plates together unlike they have now. Plus, for the weight of the panels, magnets would have been the best option to support them.

Well, those magnets are kind of weak. They are barely strong enough to hold the hull panels. The bottom two panels may detach from the magnets when you move the completed set a little too violently. Fortunately for me, there were a few extra magnets in my set so I used them to reinforce the bottom two panels. So while it may look like a cool idea, not my favorite part of building the kit. And I bought mine from a Lego store when it was released so it isn't even one of those bootleg ones.

Star Destroyer have 1600 meters, Super Star Destroyer have 19000 meters (Star Wars data) => 19000/1600 = 11.875. Now LEGO Star Destroyer as 95 cm long just make 95 x 11.875 = 1128.125 cm = 11.3meter for LEGO Super Star Destroyer on scale with LEGO Star Destroyer. Is pretty long but not need big hangar XD

I love how this thing is primarily hollow! That would allow for such great MOCing opportunity. I can just imagine filling the thing with detail on the inside, having a mass of Stormtroopers (which are basically useless since they can't aim), a mini imperial shuttle, have Grand Moff Tarkin in the cab in the top with a few officers, Darth Vader coming through the halls! THERE IS SO MUCH POTENTIAL HERE IF YOU TOOK THE TIME TO MAKE IT AWESOME... well more awesome than it is already!

I remember when i was like 8 years old my dad bought me this set and built it for me. The first time i held it i dropped it and it broke into hundreds of pieces. I never had a chance to re-build it so now all the remaining pieces are randomly in lego tubs.

Very cool stuff - and beats the Super Star Destroyer as regards architecture and LEGO ingenuity. What I like is that most of this marvel is made out of rather classical bricks and bits - not too many parts specifically designed for this ship. Means, one could try to build Nimitz or Bismarck out of the same box. Cheers.

The finished set is so... *colorful* I expected it to be way more pieces, but with that size, it makes sense. The designers would've wanted to cut down on the weight as much as possible.
