The Darksaber originally appeared in Star Wars The Clone Wars cartoon series, before making its first live action appearance in The Mandalorian Season One finale. An ancient and unique, black-bladed lightsaber, it was constructed by the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order - Tarre Vizsla. After his passing, it was stolen from the Jedi Temple by members of House Vizsla and has passed hands several times since. Although it can only truly be won through combat. It is believed that whomever earns the Darksaber will be the true and rightful leader of Mandalore.
