As someone who is generally terrible at applying lego stickers, I was amazed by the discussion on sticker placement. Had no idea there were so many considerations for applying stickers. I'm usually happy if the sticker ends up somewhat centered and not noticeably crooked.

Hey, I was in the same boat until I got a precise set of needlepoint tweezers! I got mine for ten bucks at Walgreens, so it should be easy to find a pair if you're interested. Makes stickers a lot easier, and frankly more enjoyable

The hardest one for me was the space shuttle last year. I tried my best, but ultimately the shuttle bay doors are staying closed so few people will ever see the stickers. lol

I am contemplating building the set without applying any stickers. I have sets where I have used the stickers but this, which is my first UCS set purchased If I build it I am likely to not apply the stickers. However I might blag Lego for an extra set of stickers. That is an option too. See if I get a better cut. But you won't know until you open the box.

Im a little annoyed with the exclusive dual molding of the legs. Ucs sets were never meant to be about the figs but the build im not paying wayy too much just to get a meh build ans a c3po fig we shouldve gotten years ago.

Maybe LEGO meant the height of the landspeeder above the plaque? Haha. Though, you probably wouldn't want it so slow anyway, since it's already a flat, low-lying vehicle. I don't know, as far as the whole prints vs stickers thing, if we are paying so much money for a set, I feel like they should be prints. It is a premium product, after all. Speed Champions I see more like LEGO-based model car kits, so the stickers are like decals. Even still, those were pretty annoying! But more acceptable I think, given the price points. Landspeeder was bound to be made eventually. It is somewhat of a major vehicle, even if not the most interesting. Look at this way, now you don't have to worry about LEGO making it as a UCS set again. It's out of the way. Hopefully LOL! The exclusive 3PO is ridiculous and LEGO should not have listened to the people that complained about exclusive figures. But, I am just glad that even though I am a huge Star Wars fan and a huge LEGO fan, I never mixed the two. Videos like this are enough for me. Thanks, Jang.

You are wrong on the desire of this one Jang. This set has been wanted forever. No one wanted another playscale on, but a ucs is very welcome-this vehicle is Luke. This set has and will continue to sell great, far superior to any clone era ship. Look at how the gunship did, and remeber it was so vocally wanted. Millenials don't have ucs money, and they care more about the mini figs than the build. Lego was dead on on creating the set.

What are your data sources for your measure of market demand for this set? Roughly how many peoples' opinions have you directly heard? I've spoken to and/or heard directly from around 300 on the topic with a wide range of ages, but definite bias in favor of original trilogy material, and stated interest in this vehicle as a UCS candidate has been exceptionally rare. I know LEGO does not release production or sales numbers for individual sets so any speculation as to how well a LEGO retail exclusive has sold is just that; pure speculation without basis. Even if you did know the sales numbers, you have to consider the relatively low cost of this kit; the Gunship is 75% more expensive, thus even assuming equal demand, this will be purchased by more individuals. The last $200 UCS set was the A-Wing 2 years ago.

@@JANGsLEGOreviews i basically parroted a buddy who manages a lego store. He claimed there was more buzz for this set than any set since he has been at the store. When I argued with him that no one wnats another landspeeder. He pointed out that there are a whole lot of new lego fans and this set is specifically for those new fans(he claims its by far the easiest ucs build in recent years). It's the perfect time to release the set in his eyes. The figure will grab the millenials, long time fans still need the land speeder, and its the perfect introduction to ucs for all the new fans. His store's stock of sets was out in 6 hours without lines when the store opened, just a steady flow of buyers.

If you swap the two stickered pieces so that the scratch is on the left (when looking at it from the front) it’s much harder to notice

I agree 100%. It reminded me of the silly “rust” stickers LEGO put on the most recent Ghostbusters’ ECTO-1. Great build. Terrible stickers. At least I was able to just not put them on that set.

Yeah, the best thing they could’ve done I think is print the dark red stripes on the pieces, and then keep the “scratch” as a sticker so people could leave it on or off

@@patrickchoque7720 That might be the best suggestion I’ve heard. They could have then included several dent and scratch stickers for people who really wanted that look. I wouldn’t have used them, but they could have then had more of them like the Landspeeder in Episode IV.

@@OTHDogDad yeah I agree. The Ecto 1 set was great aside from the rusty stickers. If they wanted to do the rust they should’ve brick built it into the design! But in some ways I’m glad they used stickers, made it easier to modify the build into the original ecto 1 and not the rubbish sequel one!

Say what you will about LEGO's blunders in the market research, I'm just glad we're getting more and more original UCS sets over remakes. After the X-wing, Falcon, Y-Wing, Death Star, R2-D2 etc - as great as the updated sets are - it's really great to get completely new sets. The A-Wing, Republic Gunship, AT-AT and now this.

I can see some people buying this but for this is something i will pass without hesitation. From a Lego POV it makes also sense to make this because it is one of the "iconic" things of the OG Trilogy which wasnt build as an UCS.

I'd say imagine a UCS MTT.... But BrickVault just released theirs and they got my money very fast. Lego needs to catch up. Right now they're too busy trying to exploit the adult lego star wars crowd for extra money to realize what we do and don't want.

I think the wear on the front is probably sufficient. I wonder if the folks at LEGO took a lesson from all of the rust stickers for the Ecto-1. It was so much - many people, including myself, opted not to use them at all.

I am not against stickers...on cheaper sets. On 200€ UCS sets, I think they're not admissible, not unless you're making something in micro-scale where stickers are the only way to put in details that bricks simply can't achieve at that scale (think UCS Hogwarts Castle). This one should be 170€, which is the same price of the DeLorean. I don't think there's more value here than on the DeLorean.

Maybe the landspeeder doesn't represent the most interesting and iconic SW vehicle, but it transports a lot of nostalgia. When I remember the Kenner commercials in my childhood, the landspeeder comes instantly to my mind. But I would prefer, if LEGO only adds minifigures, where the vehicle is in the same size. For that model, I would rather prefer an appropriate very small stand or support to display it as known from the movies and furthermore prints where reasonable (esp. the front), than an "impressive" black stand and exclusive minifigures. If Lego needs exclusive minifigures to sell their 18+ fan product of a big scale vehicle, then something is not correct. I additionally don't understand, why they were not able to stick more close to the source material regrading proportions. Abstracting design at a small size is complete OK and also for integrity reasons, but in this scale and basically at a quite plain and basic shaped vehicle, it feels some odd to me. Still waiting for the Nebulon B ....

I can't blame the set itself, it does look very good. It's just not that interesting because this landspeeder has been done so often before, even if they're at the significantly smaller scale. I don't have any of those, and have no plans at all to get this UCS version, but I do remember seeing I think the small 2017 version come, be retired at the end of 2019, only for ANOTHER ONE to take its place a few weeks later!

Want realism? Use a clear stand. $200us and still that many stickers isn't acceptable. I think the new windshield piece could be reused (recoloured for minifig ice caves or Hobbit holes.

Lego really seems to love tricking people into thinking that light grey is silver in their product images. I was pretty disappointed in how they made the delorean look so shiny on purpose in their promos only for it to be a flat matte in the real world.

To be fair yes, this is a good UCS set by all means but it's still amazing how LEGO is still yet to make a UCS set of far more interesting and iconic ships like literally any CIS capital ship, any Rebel capital ship that isn't the Tantive IV, or any Republic(old or new) capital ship. Because yes, when I think of an iconic Star Wars vehicle that's deserving of 7 different play sets and a UCS set I immediately think of Luke's Landspeeder, the same way I instantly think of Mace Windu when I think of the LAAT Gunship or how Clone Commanders are basically identical to Clone Pilots...

Lego was always terrible with their proportions. Just look at their newer UCS Snowspeeder- it's a mess. It's fine for play sets, but for collector sets, they really should put more effort into capturing proportions accurately.

Thanks for the review. That’s the second UCS set in a row after the AT-AT that leaves me underwhelmed. 😐 It’s good, but not something I want to devote money, time and space to. Especially since I have the recent Hasbro versions that are very convincing despite their being toys, and have matching characters to pose with. The DeLorean or Ecto 1 are just more exciting sets to me, IMHO, and that’s coming from someone who bought the UCS Executor, Devastator and Falcon… Those front and back stickers are essential to the look and would be a nightmare to apply, as well. Also, I can somewhat excuse misaligned cuts on a 30€ toy (looking at you Dark trooper Attack set), not on a 200€ UCS set.

The large UCS models are generally not my cup of tea but especially on this one I have to state that it appears Lego has simply scaled up their minifig scale landspeeder and stuck with the incorrect sizing/shaping which kind of annoys me. I get the tendency of oversizing small vehicles for the sake of stabiliy and undersizing large vehicles for the sake of piece count and wieldability when talking minifg scale vehicles, but on this model it appears no one actually took a serious look at the source material in form of Episode IV or the incredible cross-sections book. Mind-boggling.

Suburb review Jang - thank you for all the close-up scenes so we can get a really good feel for the details of the model and how it's put together. It's also great to see that despite the interior having a lot of weird colour parts - none of those are visible at all in the finished model. I like the set!

Man, UCS is having a bit of a moment. They have the gunship. Which should come with a ton of figures, as it makes sense with the canon of the model and because its minifig scale. Reasoning being some in the community complaining about restricting exclusive minifigs to high dollar sets. And then they do this one. Which isnt minifig scale but comes with exclusive figs. I like the look of this speeder even though its not lore accurate. But I also think its a little bit silly not being minifig scale.

The designers addressed both situations directly. With the Gunship, the message was, "premium product minifig exclusivity is anti-consumer and bad and we want to stop." With this, it's "loud people revolted at the lack of exclusive figures with the Gunship, so we're back to locking up the best little figs in the most expensive boxes."

Just finished building this looks great. Apart from the engine on the right (the one connected with the 3 white bars) seems to sag ever so slightly. To the point you can see the connections, why didn't they do as the did on the opposite side (2 technic puns) fits perfect. Shame because it is hard to unsee

I love this set. Not a big Star Wars person, so the inaccuracies don't bug me. Just very pretty as a display model!

For $200 there is no excuse that the front pieces are stickers. None. As is, it's a $150 set at best.
