One thing I've learned that wasn't mentioned here is that white balance settings like "cloudy" or "tungsten" might cause flicker because they still make adjustments based on what the camera is looking at, just like Auto. As far as I know, the only way around this is to use custom white balance.

Here's another tip. When looking for lenses, make sure that they have a short minimum focus distance. You don't want to have your camera across the room because the lens had to be that far away to focus. The Sigma that he uses for example has a MFD of 45 centimeters.

Great tutorial, but you've mentioned a misleading tip. Once you turn your camera to live-view mode, you get a giant problem and it's the shaking and loss of time that the camera does. The camera takes time, movement, power, and makes a loud sound when transferring the image from the lenses to the live view screen via the mirrors. That results horrible shakiness in the final video, horrible sound, and an extra 1.5 seconds per picture. Best suggestion is to either use the small view-finder or edit the frames straight through a computer.

@Danialdali8 жыл бұрын
It is worth it. But it's recommended u do things like Lego,transformers and iron man. And your action has to be epic. And no shaky camera.

+Phoneix well for me,I started of with my iPhone and used an app called stop motion studio. But I am going to switch to a canon dslr for clearer images. If you want Mobile,go for iPhone. If camera,definitely a canon dslr.

does the 18-200 Lens, Brand Matters? just read a 1-Star review on the Tamron 18-200 Lens the person was taking Blurred out Pix. Also saw many videos that the 18-55 is not as bad to start out with making stop motion, one that comes with a canon.
@JettWilliams4 жыл бұрын
The 18-55 works fine when starting out. But the one that came with my 600D didn't allow for close up shots that were still in focus.
@PaceStudios20129 жыл бұрын
when I change the aperture, to the different options, it doesn't effect the blur, it only effects the lighting :(
@IlyaM9 жыл бұрын
... That's exactly why I use a webcam. Simple to use and amazing quality. DSLR cameras are FANTASTIC quality, but you have to play around with it SO much in order for it to work right.

Very helpful! But I've got a question. I've set all of my light settings to manual, all of my windows are blacked out, and I wear black shirts. I somehow still see light flicker in my footage. Do you know what's wrong?
@JettWilliams10 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... that sucks. There is possibly some more hidden settings on the camera. Other than that, the shutter speed could be to quick, causing a different amount of light to be captured because of light bulb flicker. Or it could be bad lights/bulbs. Good luck.

ok so this is a rebel canon t7 i can tell same as mine but is there a mode for stop motion because putting all that together frame by frame in my editing app with fricken kill me
@JettWilliams2 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend connecting it to your computer and using something like DragonFrame to capture and compile the images. Also, some editing apps will allow you to import a bunch of photos as an image sequence.
For beginners I would recommend the best camera you currently have. If you're looking to get a better camera, I would recommend a DSLR. The custom lenses are not mandatory, the default one/ones should be fine to start with. I made my first 3 animations with default lenses.

Jett Williams: i just bought a Canon Eos Rebel T%I from a Real country LOL Rebel. Well yes the 18-55 does suck tons, went on eBay and saw this HERE: Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS | SLD Glass | Optical Stabilizer, will that lens do ? i just don't want to buy the wrong one, or will I need an adapter?, well hope you can help out a fella out you make great stop motion.
@JettWilliams3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I haven't purchased a lens in many years. There will be plenty of other good lenses compatible with your camera, it doesn't have to be a SIGMA one.
