That train, if scaled up to real life train size, would be blasting through the air at an incredible 789.25km/h! (about 490mph) EDIT: The numbers above are very conservative estimates.

Tim Currey I just scaled the train up to real-life size by comparing gauges of real-life tracks and lego tracks - 1435mm : 40mm. This gives a scale rate of 35.875 : 1 when talking about lego trains. 35.875×22=789.25(km/h)

Tim Currey By the way, this isn't really a precise value: the actual ratio is supposed to be 37.5mm : 1435mm, which gives a scale rate of 38.266... which gives the speed of 841.867km/h or 523.111mph. (Jesus, the difference is way bigger than I expected!) So that train would literally be able to compete with commercial airlines just in terms of speed :O

That would be until you take in to account that proportions are almost never linear, and you would NEVER get that kind of efficiency with just a simple propeller hooked up to the back. You'd have to first replace the plastic with metal, which will increase weight quite a bit. Then, the larger shape of the train will cause more drag, so on and so forth.

And if you scaled the miles per hour to account for the size of the train, if it was a real to-scale trail, what speed would it be going at??? If you can tell me the scale of the train and How long does the train travel @ 22 mpH and how long did it take to get there? What's the problem with the engine? The diesel engines aren't quite either. I think a propeller drive was not as efficient as powering the wheels, hence such engines weren't developed. There may be different reasons though.

123 dodo Yeah. So the economics of it in general. Both of us missed on 1 big reason- The current rail system of that time was already developed and a propeller going close by the people on stations would be extremely dangerous. Would have required major remakes to the rail systems.
