“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall;
don’t be happy when they stumble.
For the Lord will be displeased with you
and will turn his anger away from them.
Don’t fret because of evildoers;
don’t envy the wicked.”

For those who are new to Lego, there is an important precaution that should be noted. Unless you are buying an official Lego set, be aware that your purchase might include just the instructions - no bricks included! Be VERY certain of what you are buying! You might spend $30 or $40 only to find that you have bought a set of detailed instructions and must now buy $50 or $60 worth of bricks to build your model.

I think that LEGO trains are the best way to get kids (little and big) into model railways. Soundtraxx have done a video about fitting Bluenami into a LEGO model giving you sound and greater controls.

We had a full Lego town with multiple trains on a large layout at my grandmas house in the basement when I was a kid. Every Christmas we would get new sets. Last set I remember me, my uncle Mike and Dad putting together was a Amtrak inspired passenger set with Superliner like cars all were track powered not battery operated, that was back in the early 00's. That layout is gone now, the sets put away or sold.

These are so fun to play with. I have the ICE passenger train and the freight train set. I've also added the passenger station with adding some turnouts to make crossovers. ArkLug or the Arkansas Lego Club has been converting all of their locomotives over to Soundtraxx Blunami decoders and adding lights along with the sound and they have a massive modular layout. - Jason

I am a Lego fan as well as a N scale train fan. I saw one of your episodes a few days ago about ways to get young children playing with model trains. In that episode you mentioned how you want to get young people interested in trains but we don't want them breaking our trains. I think Lego has the perfect answer. I have two Lego Trains and several pieces of track, and I also have two Lego Duplo trains and track. My grand children love them and they are nearly indestructible. The Duplo set is battery powered and can be remotely run with an app that you down load onto your phone. The app is not necessary though. Lego allows me to have fun playing with trains with my grand children without the worry of them getting broken.

As someone who sold Lego for 10+ years: the age rating is the "minimum age" for kids that never touched Lego before, it's highly subjective but that's what the age on the front of the box means If you are interested in more information I recommend "the Lego trains book" by Mattes and "Getting started with Lego trains" book by McKee, or brick model railroader/rail bricks magazine

As a life long collector of Lego trains I have to say - Lego has dropped the ball the last 20 years. There are only a handful of sets available every 4 years and it’s tiny compared to what we got through the late 60s to early 2000s. Plus they change to powered options every few years. I keep hoping will get more consistency . They’ve made some great sets though. The community of fans have made a lot of amazing designs. Brick model railroader use to be a good source for instructions (not really kits - source your own parts) but the owner has taken a full time job and has failed to fulfill my order from 4 years ago - I would avoid that site

I started my train journey with HO, but where I live the HO community was a bit toxic and my home isn’t large enough for HO. So I sold my HO and started building a Lego City. This included a Lego train… or 3. I had the Lego ICE (3 full sets to make a nice long train), the GP38-2 (blue one) and the Christmas steam train. But there was a small problem… The Lego trains drove the desire to build model trains again. I also ended up getting 2 Horizon Express (Orange TGV) trains but I never ran them. I sold off most of my Lego, I kept the Horizon Express, a couple NASA sets and my Christmas Village sets and used that money to dive head first into N scale.

I am a lego train fan. Lego sets are just one aspect, there are a ton of us out there creating MOC(my own creation) trains and going all the way to finding line drawings and going out and measuring trains to make sure we get all of the details correct. I hate to link to another channel on your channel (this is not my channel) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5XPZmdpbaeVeJY but you can see some examples of some of the non train sets that are out there. The layout featured in this video is an LGMS layout L gauge modular standard which is inspired by free-mo but as it has evolved has become closer to T track. Many of us( I was one of the participants on that layout) are using blunami from soundtraxx to control our locomotives! In fact we believe we were the first people outside of soundtraxx to install a blunami in a locomotive. We had it running at the national trainshow when they were introduced the next day.

This set is $200 on Amazon. Other older kits are as little as $150. If Lego can sale this at this price, especially considering the inneficiencies of it being in little pieces and the Lego markup, why are simpler regular scale trains so expensive? If someone says oh the detail and scale perfection, we need them to be exact replicas. Is that really true? Because maybe that's why this hobby is dying a slow death. Sure there will always be a market for high end perfect replicas but there's no decent beginner kits for youngsters, or mid market pipeline kits to keep them in it as they get older. Lego is doing the lords work and should be an example others follow.

I’m NOT looking down at LEGO trains. But my daughter gave me that exact same LEGO Train for Christmas a few years back and I had to turn it down 😢. I told her that I was VERY excited because it was LEGO and a TRAIN!!!. But my space was limited and that I only had room for n scale. So there you have it… Opportunity missed… But she ended up returning it and buying Kato silver streak… Either way, she knows I enjoy it. I just didn’t have the room.

I would really shy away from other building brick manufacturers. They tend to be a cheaper alternative however, they do not have the same quality, geometry, or ease that Lego provides with their product. You might have to spend more but in the long run, using Lego is going to be beneficial. Plus, the limitations that the Lego system puts ok building detailed trains adds to the challenge.

While this is a hobby on its own, I don’t think it could be considered a segment of model railroading. A bit of a stretch. I also wish Jimmy would do more how-to videos - like watching the ones he did a few years ago, but now it’s just a lot of talking about things. Would love to see him get back to actually modelling. Otherwise I don’t see a point to staying subscribed.

I have to wholeheartedly but respectfully disagree. Jimmy has consistently presented topics of interest to the average modeler, the ones that comprise probably half of our hobby. He also allows us to participate in his videos with questions and layout submissions. The internet is rife with how-to videos (there are only so many ways to ballast track - and the channel does have a very useful search function) but few involve subscribers as partners. Keep doing what you are doing Jimmy, I find something worthwhile in each and every video.

It’s honestly not a stretch at all to consider Lego trains a worthy subset of model railroading. I can’t speak for Lego’s actual retail offerings, but people all over the world have been translating real-world engines into Lego fairly successfully; I’ve seen the Big Boy faithfully recreated, not to mention the Flying Scotsman, some PRR steam engines, the P42 Genesis, and even rolling stock that from a distance is eerily similar to the real thing. I believe Jimmy only touched on this lightly in the video, but there’s also loads of homebrew tracks to cater to more specific needs for Lego model railroaders. And of course, given that it’s Lego, building scenery and buildings is a breeze, albeit an expensive one.

A lot of people will not agree with me, But lego is supposed to be a play brick thing. Lego trains are an abomination. They don't look good and model rail is so much better than this "Toy". In my defense, I have spent decades honing my model rail skills and find this kind of thing utterly daft. This is fine for five and six year old, but not foer the serious model railroader. Lego trains may be a mound of Play Doh in a world of pottery clay, but both can can be used to make a vase to the creator's liking. A hobby should be about whether the individual enjoys their way of partaking in it, regardless of skill level or how "legitimate" others may think it is. Trains are cool, Lego is fun. This is a way to enjoy both, simple as that.

I don’t like battery powered trains for children. The dead batteries will be replaced by the parents maybe once or twice and then they’ll say that the child just isn’t interested anymore. A potentially lifelong interest in model railroading is lost.
@ScionISDF97
@ScionISDF97 20 күн бұрын
@@davidwilliams1060 There are older Lego train sets that are more in line with your standard DC train set, with metal track and wheels, and a power pack that can rely on wall power, rather than batteries. A newer company, FXbricks, has continued making the metal based 9v track. While not "Lego", it's a continuation of the same previous Lego production under a different company. This is, of course, assuming parent's interest in dedication towards a Lego-based layout.
