Instead of access holes you could make individual tables wide enough to access everything and put them on wheels on a track so you can move them apart when you need to make changes and then push them together when displaying the city.

Food for thought. If your build area is going to be in the loft, build a simple dumbwaiter type system to raise and lower your builds so you dont accidentally drop it trying to carry the build down the stairs. Simple 3 foot square wooden box with low sides and a pulley system hung from above. Doesnt have to be fancy, just effective.

I used to model HO Scale trains...I would recommend 2 ft wide tables that would allow you to reach and see both sides. Put in a square, rectangle or I prefer a U shape. Really cool to build in modules. Some modelers put the legs on wheels and this allows you to interchange the layout.

Don't forget Insurance and Security. At a high level try and build an inventory of all your lego in your move and keep it updated. This is an incredible next step for the channel, and your career, having a space like this could open new revenue streams with people to come and view etc.

Regarding access holes, and assuming you have the height, I'd consider raising the whole city up so you have more height underneath it, reducing the strain of crawling. Possibly go up to 6-7 feet so you do not have to crawl at all. For viewing from the border, you could install raised walkways, and the access holes could have some combination of a raised platform to stand on with stairs leading up from one side, possibly with a hatch.

Hi Jordon, very excited to see the progress you make with the new studio. If you want to save your knees when crawling under the immense lego city you are designing, there are kneel boards with wheels that tradesmen use and that will help when traversing under the tables. Also, as an idea for the Star Wars section of your shelving area, you could get printed backdrops that fit the backgraound of the shelves. So you could have stars in space / lightspeed streaks / planetary orbit images behind your ships. Then maybe tatooine / degoba / coruscant behind certain playsets, or just the empirical / rebelion emblems. The possibilities with print and self adhesive vinyls today are endless.

This sounds exciting. I can see rooms for Star wars, Cars, Marvel and random. Having a huge city that includes everything sounds exciting. You'll have more wall space to hang stuff too. A lounging area would be a good space so you can lounge and look at your city and think. Or if friends come over you can all sit around and talk Lego together

Congratulations on this next step! If you are planning to at some point having it open to visitors 2 things came to my mind. 1) It might be nice to have access holes be accessible for wheelchairs and other assistive devices. 2) Have a photo area (outside even) where people can take selfies. An optical Illusion photo is also popular and could be fun if you design a minifig and stand it close to a camera and make it seem like you are the same size. That can be free marketing when people post those photos and can also bring people in. Good luck with your planning and I hope it all comes together for you smoothly!

I’m super happy to see your next step in your LEGO adventure! Your enthusiasm is contagious! I am in construction and have seen & repaired the aftermath of warehouse break ins. Talk to people in the security industry about alarms and physical barriers. A large stolen truck can smash a big hole in a building. A lot of contents can disappear long before the police arrive.

Congrats on the new wearhouse! Are you planning to open it up to tours? If so might I suggest a corner area with a table behind glass where if people are touring, you or your helper can be behind glass building lego sets. Kind of like how they do at tattoo shops or metal or word workers do at shows. Would be cool for visitors to see the city and see someone building something if they want to ask questions and stuff. Just a thought :) congrats again! Can’t wait to see the whole process of moving ur massive city.

Congrats Jordan! Love that you are going to do the subway line!!! I agree that the airport would take up too much space, but maybe you could put the airport on a hill next to the train station and elevate part of the runway over part of the train yard. It will utilize the space better and shouldn’t block much of the trains. You could even install lighting under the runway to light the trains.
