LEGO has exerimented with many different types of battle packs ranging from pitting troops of different factions agains each other like 75000 Clone Troopers VS Droideka's to having one-of-a kind Star Wars characters in battle packs like 75167 Bounty Hunter Speeder Bike Battle Pack and 75206 Jedi and Clone Troopers Battle Pack! But one type of Battle Pack has remained the fan favorite from the start and these typically contain 4 troops from the same faction such as the legendary 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack, more recent 75165 Imperial Death Troopers Battle Pack, or even the first Clone Battle Pack ever (7655)!

Now, I understand your point that people use battle packs to build armies, and so they should just have the "grunts" in them, but I think LEGO is also making battle packs to be nice, small sets for kids or parents that don't want to buy a sixty dollar set. Because of this, including those engineers, commanders, Jedi, etc. is important because otherwise those kids that can't afford the big sets will never have those extra characters to play with. The battle packs aren't exclusively for collectors. I know I would've loved and super appreciated the Jedi and Clone Troopers battle pack as a kid

Yeah that seemed a bit contradicting but at the same time the Senate Commandos were rarely seen in the Clone Wars and even then they were supposed to be Elite guards for senators. If your purpose for battle packs is to build an army it would make no sense to have an army of elite guards. At the same time though the only way to get them at the time were from 2 different sets which each were expensive, and if you were doing a Coruscant MOC or some diplomat ship then the battle pack would make sense.

i don’t think it’s about the “coolness” of a figure being ruined because it becomes accessible to normal people... you forget most people don’t have hundreds to spend on lego and the idea of lego isn’t to create rare exclusives that create a hierarchy in the community... it’s to be available to everyone whatever your budget. suggesting that a figure has been ruined because more than a few exclusive lego youtubers can get their hands on it is a bit naive and self centred, in my opinion. also, most people (again) are not lego youtubers and cannot afford to build an “army” and just buy them as a cheap cool set with cool minifigs.

I know I only buy like 1 of each battle packs and only the ones I like. They started making the battle packs less like an army builder and more like a mini set, because parents can’t afford to get their 6 year old a 30 to 80 dollar LEGO set that the kid will probably not build. I think the new approach to battle packs is a much better way of doing it so kids can get cool characters without having their parents spending a large sum of money.

@@DownHillgamer The problem is that fucking Hasbro completely has the "Star Wars action figure" market locked down. Lego USED to sell these little packs of minifigures in the early 2000s. They were a mix of just army building type figures (battle droids and scout troopers), and just named characters (Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Palpatine, Maul) in separate packs and everything went perfectly. Kids could buy the named characters while adults could buy the army building packs. Then Hasbro comes along and sues Lego, claiming the minifigs are actually action figures and that they are violating Star Wars' exclusivity deal. Apparently the courts decided in Hasbro's favor, and those little packs were no more. Fast forward to the late 2000s, and Lego comes up with an idea: sell the minfigs attached to magnets which could then be removed. I remember buying a whole bunch of them: I remember an Imperial Guard and a Boba Fett specifically. Along comes Hasbro again, and they ban THOSE packs. So now there's no way for people to get the famous characters on a budget. So Lego puts named characters into packs, and now there's no army builder packs anymore, like how there was when the magnet sets were still a thing. Kids could grab Palpatine or Boba Fett from the magnets while adults could do that and also build a stormtrooper army to go along with them.

I love the unique figures if they are rare figures or figures not otherwise available. The Ki-Adi Mundi/Bariss Offee pack or the Inferno Squad one for example. They are great for people - like me - who don't want to build a generic army, but do want to collect awesome minifigs of their favourite characters without spending ridiculous money on eBay. I'd be delighted if 1 in 10 battle packs were unique figures instead of generic identical minifigs.

The jedi battle pack builds your army, just not in a bulk way. It adds two of the harder-to-find Jedi. So it is still an army expansion, just one that you only need to buy one of.

You’re looking at it strictly from the perspective of building an army. “Battle packs” aren’t fully intended just for that purpose. Actually they were made for children to be able to battle with a variety of characters for a reasonable price. There are marketing/strategy and budget decisions that go into it as well. They really should make a true line to build an army.

I feel they're intended to have different purposes for different audiences. When I was a kid, my mum bought me the original droid and clone battle packs, because they were a cheap way for me to get a lot of minifigs, but refused to buy multiple of the same product. For adult collectors, with their own disposable income, they're great for army building. I'm going to be buying at least 10 of the upcoming 501st "battle pack" (not really a battle pack, but still) because I want to have at least a small battalion of those clones. But as a kid I'd be over the moon with just one of those sets.

5:44 I personally love the speeder and assassin droids. I'd swap their parts with other robot peices to have different models of assassin droids (ig88 was obviously the leader of the whole group. Also 7:11 I think unique characters are awesome in a battle pack, provided all the characters included are unique and different from each other. That battle pack looks incredible. Sure you can't build an army but it saves you from buying the big sets to get them.

@@CT---ty3lz In legends there were 4 IG-88s who worked together identified as IG-88A, IG-88B, IG-88C and IG-88D. IG-88B was the one on Vaders ship and cloud city. Boba Fett destroyed IG-88 B, C and D. IG-88A managed to hijack and transfer his memory banks into the death star core and took control of the station from within, but was blown up with the battle station.

The arc trooper battle pack is one of my favorites. In 1 Battle pack, u get a rancor battallion arf trooper, arc trooper Hammer, 2 commando droids. Hammer is so underrated. Some of the people doesn't even know that, this guy has a name.

I know!!! I ended up getting out of Lego right as they implanted these. Like even if the old ones looked nothing like the real blasters, they still looked like a gun. The stud shooters look stupid and way oversized. I actually used to have a few custom realistic blasters I got from I beileve BrickArms. Damn I kinda wish I didn't sell all my legos

Eh, I don't mind the stud shooters. Most people that buy Lego sets are kids anyway, and you can get the old guns off of Brickowl for like 10 cents a piece. I just bought a BUNCH of them all at once, so I'm all set for future battle packs. :)

As a child, I would always get battle packs since they were the cheapest and most playable sets. I love all of the modern battle packs but the OG Mandalorian, ARF Troopers, and 2nd Clone Trooper battle packs are all very nostalgic for me.

I remember being 8 and getting the 2008 rebel trooper and the 2008 stormtrooper battlepacks for my birthday. I took a red lightsaber pole, and hilt from my older cousin who wasn't a LEGO fan anymore and gave it to the shadow stormtrooper, and put a piece of black cloth on him, and just pretended it was Darth Vader. Good times

You kinda ignored one of my favorite Battle Packs. The Assassin Droid one should've been up way higher. They include more mini figures than a traditional pack and come with blasters, not stud shooters. Also the IG droids are really cool, even though you can't really build your army with them. I thought the speeder was so cool and for me definitely in my top 10. Why did you put it so low?

I know this was ages ago but...some of these (like the one with Jedi) wasn’t made for army building, it was made for kids who’s parents can’t spend loads on sets. It’s a battle pack because it gives kids extra names figures for a small fight. To a kid, 6 figs is a lot, or at least for me. I’d be extremely happy with the lower rated packs. But who really cares?

When I was 4 when my older brother bought 7 of the 2009 clome battle pack and the AT TE with Captain Rex. And I have a total of 2 501st troopers, 8 212th troopers, 10 41st troopers, 4 boom squad troopers, 2 horn company troopers, 1 Arc trooper, 3 arf troops, 1 Captain Rex phase 1 (I was unable to get the phase 2), 1 Commander Cody, 2 Commander Grees 1 phase 2 one phase 1, 4 geonosis troopers, 4 Senate Commandos, 1 501st clone pilot, 2 phase 1 pilots, and an episode 3 pilot. I can't wait for the 501st "battle pack " me and my brothers are gonna buy 7-11.

I was never an army builder, so I preferred the battle packs having unique characters. I even got the new clone battle pack just for the Ki Adi Mundi figure. But the Rebel and Stormtrooper battle packs from 2008 are definitely my favorites. Great figures that I was happy to get many of plus some good builds. My least favorite battle pack would be the First Order one that only came with one regular First Order stormtrooper.
