It is overwhelming to see the changes and development. I remember this street as an unpaved dirt road, on one side stood the Tibetan monastery and opposite was the Muslim mosque. The Post office, the pharmacy, and some hardware stores. Nothing else. This video looks like a pedestrian mall in one of the European capitals. I'm glad to see that the vegetable sellers are still there. They are the soul of Leh.

Agree, In 83 I'd vent from Srinagar to Leh, two fully days by bus, about 340 kms, stayed for 9 days. The vege-ladies, is the flower of the color-less main-street, on my photo. Also there were mostly walking people, and few bicycles, no real motor traffic. I'd brought a whole sak of vegetables, as were not available in Srinagar, back to the houseboat, by plane, ½ hour flight. Well, the ''mall', could be anywhere, S.Am, Australia, the States and other, but it still have some oriental touch, and it is beautiful work.

Laddakh needs better aerial connectivity to Leh Valley, Zanskar valley, Nobra and Kargil. The Manali- Leh road should be widened and made all weather. Leh qualifies to have a Medical College of 50 seats so that Laddakh students do not have to depend upon other Medical Colleges. Similarly Leh should have PG institutions in IT, Engineering, agricultural and horticultural sciences. It is an ideal place for generation of energy through wind and solar power. Above all the Laddakhi children must get an opportunity of completed courses from class one to finality which should include courses and studies upto M.Sc and Ph.D. Laddakhis have a good learning and grasping power therefore each class should also be imparted vocation training depending upon the choice of students. Laddakh is an ideal place for profitable green house farming as it is rich in water for irrigation and clean environment. it has a tremendous scope for religious, scenic and cultural tourism. I have stayed in Laddakh in various places during my Army service and happened to like it so much that it has become a major part of my bio data. All the best for this wonderful sacred land.

Leh has changed for better since 1985-87 and 1999-2000. You do not find a single scooter or a cycle or a four wheeler. It is a Buddhist town and the Buddhist natives Laddakhis are good, honest and serve their people well because they follow Buddhism which is the best religion in world without any comparison. Laddakhi Buddhism is based on purest pristine teachings of Buddha which is based on Karma, deeds and thoughts.

Oh how i miss Ladahk i been here 1 year ago love the people. I have meet 3 beautiful older ladies vendors and we have tsai-tsai together and they give me delicious appled and dried apricots. The city looks beautiful and Ladakh the valley of mountains is amazing. There are such beautiful regions in our country, like Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal, Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Andamans and Lakshwadeep. We Indians must give priority to visit these places before making a foreign visit. These are beautiful regions with a bit of economic backwardness, due to harsh natural conditions. Our visit will help the economy of these regions and balance the economic imbalance. Also the costs incurred to foreign countries will be much higher than the domestic visits

This is also a part of Jammu and Kashmir state and see how peaceful the area is .No police or army pickets.The problem is the people of Kashmir who are Muslims and cannot live peacefully anywhere.They cannot dictate for the whole state which has Hindus,Sikhs and Buddhist also.I hope article 370 is removed ASAP and other state people can settle there.Jai Hind.

Because of Ladhaki people and their Buddhist culture, Ladhak is becoming an attractive tourist destination but soon Muslims will flood Ladhak and try to take it over unless Ladhakis take action now to protect their dominion. No religious conversion should be allowed.
