@wworldp Thanks again, Wanda. In your video, it appeared Zoellner and the Bus. School are connected above grade - but it was just the perspective of your shot... Nice that you pictured Grace Hall in your tour; a relatively unappreciated older building, in my mind [The renovation was well done, esp. in the main body of the building.] When you get a chance, check out the capitals: Entrance to Packer Hall (the U. C.) I have been told there exist Corinthians somewhere on campus, too.

@JohnGLewis1964 I have been in both buildings. On the outside they are somewhat connected visually by terraces and pergolas. Can not say if they are connected below grade. The older buildings on campus are stunning but so are the newer buildings...each in their own way. Good that you were able to offer assistance to the fellow that had questions about Lehigh.

@wworldp I understand that you perhaps like Linderman the most...? Wanda, a professor mentioned that to me some 25 years ago...that somewhere on campus there exists Corinthian capitals. [But I have no idea where.] Unexpected, of course, because of the general Gothic influence. If I were to choose my favorite, it might be the first building constructed by the new University...Packer Hall, known when I was attending as the U.C. (Capitals at the entrance use books as the foundation!) Thanks.

Great! - Thank you very much, Wanda. I have one question: Did the University physically connect the scool of Business to... the Zoellner Arts Building? The latter is one of my favorite of the recent structures on campus... But, as I recall, there used to be a breeze way between the two buildings, when initially constructed. Btw, this area was the site of the old football staduim....

@JohnGLewis1964 John, at the President's house on campus there is an unwelcoming sign that more or less indicates that uninvited visitors aren't welcomed so I didn't get a close look at it. Asa Packer's house which had Corinthian columns framing windows is in the renamed town of Jim Thorpe.

@JohnGLewis1964 John, after your brain teaser I did some research that resulted in no results for Lehigh but found photos showing Corinthian columns framing windows at Asa Packer's home. I had imagined something much larger in terms of column size. Years ago I had taken a tour of Packer's home but do not recall this detail. I didn't get to see the inside of the campus church because it was locked.....do you think that might be a candidate for the columns?

@wworldp (Post 2 of 3). Well, was my professor correct, after all, concerning my "talent", "interest in", or "passion for", architecture. Yes; quite... I never pursued it; and he was accurate in that I generally do not like technicalities or detail (such as in engineering). Remember Aristotle's distiction between the Theoretical, and Practical, intellect? (...) But yet, the bigger question: Was there a Corintian Column on campus; and if so, where? Please see Post 3.

@wworld [Addendum] Wanda: The church, or Packer Chapel (if I recall correctly), I have been in...and thinking about it, there is a *possibility* here, for the Corinthian Column. The design is more Romanesque, as opposed to the campus Gothic. Actually, the old Linderman Library used to be this style too (!), before the stunning addition (the North side, not the Rotunda) done just before the depression (by Lehigh graduates nonetheless!) I'm in NH, so it isn't easy for me to look.Let me know!

Please let the administrators know your thoughts, if you have them, on the proposal to do what Lehigh's managers are terming a 'renovation' to the University center, Lehigh's first building. The project actually involves tearing down about a third of the structure, and then modernizing the rest... #saveLehigh #fireonthemountain

@wworld (Continued; Post 3 of 3.) Yes on Q.1; ... and an "I don't know" on Q.2 ...The Corinthian Column, the fanciest of the three; perhaps the most aesthetically pleasing. I know of no serious buildings taken down since 1988, besides the old Stadium (and it wouldn't have been there). I have never been in the President's house; but you indeed did make a discovery!! This may well have been what the professor meant (!); but, yes, I too have a size concern... Can you post a picture? - John L.

@saidsaud1 (Post 2 of 2) Young sir, I am sure you would be pleased with the campus... And actually the size of the school (roughly 4500 undergraduates, 2000 graduates) is superb... I was always seeing someone new; but my friends were always around...Very pleasant size; possibly near 'perfect'.. The dorms actually are generally very nice.. you can pick a "structured room" in the Centennials (very well done), or otherwise. This is a school that cares very much for it's students, may I say.

@saidsaud1 (Post 1 of 2) You are from Equador, my friend! I once had a roomate from Equador when I was at Lehigh... You being a foriegner does help get in; academics are very important; and I don't know if you have standardized testing down there (like the SAT up here), but if you do, I would recommend them. A visit to the campus.. would be very helpful, not only for you, but to let the University see a little of ...who you are, and, importantly, you would be expressing interest to them.

@wworldp I do have another piece of information. Dr. Hare is a Christian, and when at Lehigh, was associated with the Campus Group "The Navigator's". Btw... I'll have to check out some of your other films too, Wanda. Especially interested in seeing Haverford and Swarthmore.. A lot of fine schools in Pennsylvania(!) Wanda: You know, Dr. Hare may be one of the very few people to realize there exists a Corinthian Capital on campus... He did enjoy whimsical, fancy details, I believe, at times.

@wworldp Wanda: (Post1 of 3) That is very interesting! The brain teaser was not so much from me, as it was from my (philosophy) professor 23 years ago. He asked the question, and then I replied "Is this merely rhetorical?"; to which he did not reply, meaning that there really does (or did) exist a Corinthian capital on campus, somewhere. [The reason why he was challenging me, was that I indicated a curiousity in architecture; yet he doubted if I really had an eye, an interest for, detail!]

@JohnGLewis1964 John, I made separate videos on Alumni Memorial Building, Packer Hall, Rossin Engineering Building, Chandler Lab, Grace Hall and the very super Linderman Library. During my visit I saw a lot of beautiful stone work but don't recall Corinthian columns. It would be easy for me to have missed something since there was so much to grab my attention.

@wworldp Wanda...That's unfortunate. He may have retired, although he was a fairly young professor when I knew him; however, that was 25 years ago. I have not been in touch since. Possible he might have moved back to Great Britian (or Scotland). He did have an interest in art/architecture, and taught an aesthetics philosophy class at Lehigh. I took Ancient Phil. with him... He was always interested in discussion or dialogue, and encouraged this in his classes. A kind man, too. - John L.

@JohnGLewis1964 This may be a project for another time unless someone with detailed knowledge of the campus enters into the conversation. I'm in New Jersey and visited Lehigh only once. Doubt if I will return any time soon. If your Prof. is still around we could email him. I am good at finding people....would you have his name? Or, we could contact someone from the architecture department on campus.

@wworldp Wanda: I am sorry, but I was confusing "Asa Packer's House" (which is in Jim Thorpe, PA) with the *President's House* at Lehigh. My mistake!! No, though, the column exists *on campus*, so Packer's personal home (in Jim Thorpe) cannot be considered.. The Prof. was Dr. John E. Hare, but he has moved on since; I believe teaching now at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Professor of Philosophy; he is Scottish (actually). Very nice gentleman. He will remember. My warm regards

@JohnGLewis1964 John, so far a dead end. He is not listed in the Calvin College Philosophy Department on the college web site. The plot thickens. His books do mention he is in their Philosophy department.
