Times of india reported him the 3rd most successful hero of 1990 and in 1991 he was ranked no. 1 with saajan, sanam bewafa, kurbaan (now some calls it flops but it did superhit business in interiors) and patthar ke phool. Then came low phase 1992-1993 and then made comeback with hahk where madhuri stole the credit but his actual comeback was karan arjun with this he entered top3 again.

@@tracidda2122 He became a star in Maine Pyar Kiya but there too Bhagyasree was admired more tan him.The film was a hit in comparision with what the budget was as it was not a big budget film and it was not released in a lot of theaters in Mumbai.Certainly he became a successful star , by piggybacking on the success of the film but he was jobless for about a year too.The craze was there but it was not there just only because of him , it was actually for the film.So, he was thinking of leaving acting again .Then patthar ka ful happened and some other films too but those were not hit or even though some of them were successful,they were not just because of him may be the co actors or the actress.But After Maine Pyaar Kiya he actually became the big star , yes it true that Madhuri was more powerful than him .

Hence creating so many fictitious myths about himself. Sanam Bewafa and Kurbaan were completed much before Maine Pyar Kiya release. Even suryavanshi and baaghi shooting started in may 1990. In MPK he was equally appreciated as I remember it watching in theater then. He was in most of the cover magazines of that times. 1992-1993 was luckwarm but onwards 1995 he was among the top3.
