Great review on the Leica IIIc. There’s just something about the old Barnack Leicas that sets them apart from the M’s……not saying that one is better than the other but each are a joy to use. There are several film trim templates available if you can’t find the original one. I would recommend cutting the film leader as some of the other techniques can potentially damage the shutter or baseplate. There are several companies making the LTM 39mm lenses. There a plethora of old LTM lenses available but beware as there can be issues with these older lenses such as fungus or balsam separation. If you do buy one of these Barnacks or even older M’s recommend a cla. There are a couple if people who still service these. If you do get one, this review and other videos by Jonathan are a good place to start.

Hi, I've found a leica iiic of Facebook Marketplace and theyre asking $200 usd for it HOWEVER the lens has a little bit of fungus in it.... It seemes to be a 1946-47 model from what I've researched based off of it's serial number. How much of a red flag is fungus? Would it permanently ruin the glass? Can it be cleaned out? It also has an OKARO contrast filter on it, i dont exactly know what that is, but it comes with it. I just wnated to ask if its worth buying as I'd love to own a Leica, and this sounds great to me, as a budget option.. It has the Leitz Elmar 5cm f3.5 on it and comes with a case. The only issue being the fungus. Would you advise buying it then sending it for a CLA and hoping they can get rid of the fungus, or just staying clear of it and saving up a bit longer for a better camera?

Fungus is a major issue. If it’s in the lens it’s probably in the camera’s rangefinder too. Are you sure the camera is mechanically sound? Hello. Thanks for the video. I just bought what I think is a IIIc, but it doesn't have a slow speed dial on the front. Did they make a variant like that or did I buy a knock off?

Check out the serial number online. Leica made many models without slow speeds.
