I'm half way through my first roll with my M6. Good to hear that the results were great and noticeably better than your previous cameras. I also came from using an SLR so looking forward to getting this roll developed.

I shoot with my Olympus OM2 and 28f2.8 zone focus. Works well for me. The camera is a tool, knowing how to use it is key.
