Excellent education. I just took up photography as a retirement hobby. I learn so much from your videos. Thank you for taking the time to make them. A Leica, particularly the Q3, is my dream camera. Unfortunately they are a little out of my reach on a retirement income at the moment. Will save my extra dollars and save for one in the future.

Hola Thorsten, Im looking for a lightweight camera to take to some remote parts of Alaska to shoot walruses & whales. I assume that I’ll have to crop quite a few of my photos to get those close-ups, and I’m concerned that I’ll lose some of the sharpness. Would you recommend the Q3 for wilderness photography? Thank you
@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard6 ай бұрын
I would recommend it because it is easy to carry. As for sharpness, you can in fact crop to 75mm and 90mm and have razor sharp pictures. The lens was designed for it.

Half the Q3 users use manual focus. Try it, I like the certainty and planning that goes into that. As fast as Auto Focus once you get it.

The Panasonic Leica 15mm f1.7 is a brilliant alternative for M43, for those of us budget conscious!
@KeAiFu3 ай бұрын
A 1.7 m43 lenses hast the picture impression of a 3.4 lens for full frame. If you want a similar look, like the Q3 with 1.7, you need a 0.85 lens - which not exist.
@DJFAmenHeavy3 ай бұрын
@@KeAiFu ? - I think you are referring to depth of field equivalence? Quality of the bokeh is more important than the amount imo. M43 is more than capable of shallow depth of field with the right lenses. And let’s be honest, shallow depth of field is overplayed, every newby photographer shoots everything wide open. It’s a little fatiguing tbh.

Okay, I tried the Q3... but it's not for me. What I want when I photograph is to compose my picture at capture, not by cropping afterwards. So I need a compact with Zoom AND excellent lens quality (as good as the sum micron 28mm f1,7 ??). What would you recommend?

@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard6 ай бұрын
@mortennielsen10935 ай бұрын

@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard6 ай бұрын
Yes, they designed it for size of camera, versatility, and with the vision that you can crop the image. One day, maybe, a 50mm or 35mm version will come.

@@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard being able to crop inside is just incredible with this camera. Does the Fujifilm do this?
@Bossti5 ай бұрын
Two reasons probably: first it was easier to design 28mm optics f1.4 for this size and quality in a compact camera. Second is the fact that you can easily crop for 35mm and still get away with more than enough resolution for large prints because the lens is of such high quality

@MagicOfLight_ThorstenOvergaard9 ай бұрын
"c'est moins chirurgical et plus naturel" 😍 (Leica Q3 it's less surgical and more natural).

People pick brands for their tech and hybrid functions, shoot specifically to maximize dynamic range in post, use super clinical glass, twiddle sliders in Lightroom for hours, etc. Then hop in the comments after looking at a lo-res photo compressed by social media on their cellphone and say there's no "Leica look." Brilliant.

Not quite true, different brands have different looks. Regarding color, sharpness and tone. I was a Master Printer back in the film days and I most definitely could see a difference between Leica, Hasselblad, Nikon, Canon and Pentax. Now, it’s all based on sensors and pixels but each company still tweaks their sensors to achieve their “look”. If you can’t see this then, maybe you should stick to using your cellphone. 😊
@GEOFFYCOLLECTION6 ай бұрын
Actually, pretty much 80% of all reviewers mentioned the Leica look because the camera itself is not really what does it it’s the lens. The lens is incredible. I’ve had a lot more time to spend with it now and I totally see the difference between this and my old Sony stuff. .
