Here in Italy, Leicester's title has been compared to when Hellas Verona won the scudetto in Serie A, back in 1985, something surprising when you consider that Juventus had Platini (and won the European Cup that year) and Napoli had just bought Maradona, not to mention other competitors like Inter Milan, AC Milan, or AS Roma. Verona did go on to be relegated, 5 years later, so the comparisons with Leicester can still be applied.

I feel for you. Here in the US we don’t have relegation. But I was a MLS Earthquakes fan almost since their inaugural MLS season. My wife and I attended games and supported the club. Then ownership moved the team to Houston, Texas, about 1200 miles away. We felt betrayed. Now there’s a new Earthquakes team but it’s not the same. Being relegated must have almost the same feeling.

This is a good summary; but the specific event that started the rot was when Brendan suspended several key players for having a weekend get together during the "lockdown" era of the UK. This unprecedented team suspension that no other team worldwide imposed happened while Leicester were sitting pretty in the Top 4. It was a big gamble on Brendan's part to flex his personal authority; but the team never looked the same in the Prem from that point forward. He then started making very strange personnel decisions. We won the FA Cup with a 532 that crushed Man Utd and nicked Chelsea with Nacho and Ayoze, but then he never used that formation again. He froze out Soyuncu, a player who was once EPL team of the season. He bought Vestegaard for $15 million then never let him play. He then threw away the opening game of the season when he used no substitutes, then said the day was too hot. Every time a player had a man of the match performance - that player would never see the pitch again (Chowdury, Mendy)... then he benched Schmeichel as he was about to record his 150th straight start and sold him the week before the season began... very strange conduct; almost like he was working to undermine Leicester

As someone who lives in Leicestershire and the majority of my friends and family support Leicester, I feel so bad for them having to go through this. Not only that, but having seen the insane underdog run they pulled off w/ winning the league just a year after a miraculous escape from relegation and then going on to reach the quarter-finals of the UCL only to be stopped by the previous season's runners-up is smth I don't think many ppl who know about it will ever forget. W/ Blackburn potentially getting promoted this year, that's another reason I hope they stay up, since it'll mean there's a chance that next season all seven teams that have won the PL will be playing in it in one season for the first time in 20yrs, and back then only three of them had won it. I've also played football inside the dome at their old belvoir road training ground that's now home to their womens team.

In the past, Spanish football might heard about the Galician-based giants Deportivo de la Coruna. They were one of the European threats in the beginning of millenium, having won the historic La Liga back in 1999/2000 with the worst points overall (69) in the history of the competitions. The win was even surprising because at that time there were 3 big teams who were the contenders such as Barcelona, who were the league holders, and both Real Madrid and Valencia that reached the season's Champions League Final, with the former being the winners. Deportivo also won 2 Copa del Rey trophies, including a shock win over Real Madrid in 2002, when the club celebrated the centenary at Bernabeu, and even made a big comeback against Milan in 2004 to reach the Champions League semifinals. In 2011, Deportivo were relegated, and it was repeated three times, with 2020 being the most recent one, demoting to Primera Division RFEF.

I’ve supported Leicester my whole life, it is never easy being a Leicester fan, ever. In 2016 I was 9 years old and I remember my dad telling me how good the opening game was against Sunderland and I was hearing the words “top of the league”, those words stuck with me all season for some reason and we miraculously won the premier league title and finished “top of the league”. The following season however things were never the same, yet we still made the quarter finals of the champions league. Brendan Rodgers has actually done really well at Leicester, apart from this season, three years ago we narrowly missed out on champions league for the second time, the following season we did the same again and won the FA Cup, which was one of the best days of my life and I sometimes watch back on the highlights and Tielemans’s goal and I always smile watching it, last season I was at a European Semi-final and I remember how great the atmosphere was that night (ignoring the 2nd leg). This season we have just rapidly declined and now I’m almost certain we’re gonna go down. I saw us play against Bournemouth and it looks like they’ve just given up. I don’t think Dean Smith will be able to keep us up (who has been confirmed at the time of writing this). I also think we’ll be stuck in the Championship for years as we will lose so many players and will have to rebuild the squad all over again. In terms of new managers I would much rather have had Nuno Espírito Santo or Rafa Benitez, or even Nigel Pearson back as I think he would sort us out until the end of the season. I honestly think we need to sack the board as lately the decisions that they have been making are absolutely terrible. This season has been horrible to watch and if we go down we will probably be screwed financially as well. Being a Leicester supporter has always been hard and that’s how it’s only ever going to be.

I felt the last line, my friends have always wondered why I continue to support a team like Leicester as there are not many other fans of the team in my country. It's true that the team has faced difficult moments but that's how I learnt to value every win and every scored goal. Also Leicester's motto is: ''Foxes never quit" which should be reminded to some of our current players. It's painful to watch the team these days and tbf it wouldn't be undeserved if we get relegated, still I hope for another miracle like the one in the spring of 2015.

A big issue for Leicester is their reluctance to deal with other teams, Arsenal and Newcastle have clearly shown interest in Tielemans and Maddison over the last year but both clubs failed to sign the players, it would seem that Leicester priced them out of moves which would be fine if they have a number of years left but instead Tielemans is going for free when they could have got £25-30m last summer and Maddison they’ll be lucky to get £35m where they could have got £50-60m last summer.

It's such a huge oversight and now really struggling because of it.

@Salt Major This is the big issue, No one can see leicester as a long term team and down tools as soon as a bid comes in. Tielemens and Maddison both "Couldn't focus" during the transfer window, players are paid way to much money just trying to keep them to stay. Our biggest achievement of winning the PL and then trying to keep that momentum has honestly been our downfall, we over pay and under spend trying to cling on. We have so many players who's contracts end in the summer that will leave as free agents and even more ending next summer that we'll not capitalise on it's so frustrating. If we go down this season we won't be coming back to the Prem anytime soon.

We held out and held out on selling Fofana to get the highest price, but at a cost of not having any time whatsoever to use some of the funds. We also left ourselves with no time to replace Schmeichel, and likewise didn't secure Lookman for the next season at the last minute. Yes we needed to sell players, both some big names and a lot of the dead wood, and consolidate into a leaner more efficient unit, but work needed to start on this as of day 1 of the transfer window, so the club could ultimately adjust and prepare for the coming season. Same with replacing Rodgers too, whose head was clearly gone last season. Ultimately the club owners didn't have it them to admit reality and make the tough decisions required.

However I don’t believe we can point blame on the ownership as it’s completely out of his control what happened with Covid and Rogers may have been kept too long but there was good reason to still believe in him especially after the spurs performance, we looked back to our best. As a West Ham fan we are relying on there to be 3 worse teams than us, very shocked that one of these at this moment in time is Leicester. Outplayed us before the WC and seemed to get out of trouble after a very rocky start but as I always say no team is too good to go down. Would be a real shame after what they’ve achieved.

This is a great video. Well researched and presented. The main problem with Leicester is that players have got too cosy, not enough new blood either being brought through or brought in. Players are eiher aging, or too sure of their place in the team. Rodgers might have got the bullet, but the problem isn't the manager, but the lack of backing from behind the scenes. Changes need to be made in the hierarchy and a more realistic wage structure adhered to.

As a Midlander and Villa supporter, I was thrilled and proud of Leicester 's world renowned performance and acheivements; a Faireytail come true. I followed their up's and downs , as all clubs do, but never thought things would become so bad. BUT, even so, a new season, and a new mountain, waits to be climbed.

When I first started watching the premier league they were in a fight to not get relegated and they went on some hot streak and stayed up. The first full season I watched was the very next, in which they won, so I will always have a soft spot for them and I hope they can have another great escape.

as a Leicester fan, it is crushing to watch especially because all the games I have to watch are at 3am on days before I have training or games. so doing this just to watch us not win in literal months and be the 4th worst team in top 5 Europe leagues is just crushing. But I know even if we do get relegated. we will be back.

Most of the issues - lack of depth and injuries hurting the high-energy playstyle - were caused by a lack of money, which in turn were caused by the ultimate root issue: missing out on top 4 twice. That, in turn, can be blamed on Rodgers - but it's his style that even got them that close to begin with. Clearly it was a high-risk managerial tenure that sadly missed the mark (FA Cup win notwithstanding). It would be interesting to see Potter with Leicester, even or especially if they go down. He could prove himself (again) by turning them into a successful project and bringing them back up. Rodgers I hope gets a fresh start somewhere, he still has it in him... I'd love to see him at Leeds lol. Marsch shouldn't manage in the Premier League at all, he needs to go down the ladder by a rung (or two) or go back to a much smaller pond to prove himself.

It's just gutting to see what is going on there, unfortunately it's another case of a club being too ambitious and going about their ambitions in the completely wrong way, and this has screwed them over financially. Leicester are unhated by everyone for a reason - they were brave and exciting, and of course the success they've had is unbelievable. Obvs the timing of covid completely messed up their plans, but the quality is still there - the likes of Maddison, Barnes, Iheanacho, Tielemans, Soyuncu, Pereira etc are all still on the payroll and crucial in those 2 years where they were fighting for CL, but most of these players are just downing tools and running down their contracts, with only Maddison and on occasion Barnes really showing any quality. Trouble is, even if they do survive, all of those players that will leave in the summer (by force as well given that they can't afford to keep them) and those whose contracts run out in the next year will be gone, and they need replacing - but they can't really afford to replace them it seems. So it feels as if a relegation is inevitable in the next few years, and honestly it's so sad to see.

Hopefully a new appointment in manager can help us reinstate some confidence quickly. As an American Leicester fan, yes I’d love Marsch but at this point I just want a strong end to the season to avoid the drop and try and rebuild a culture for next year and onward. But at the same time, if we do drop, with so many expiring contracts and players with only a year remaining, maybe we sell off and start fresh and try and fight back to the Prem next year. 🦊

As a Leicester season ticket holder for 20 years, you're right on the money with every point. We've become stale. Overspending on players whether it's transfer fees, wages or both and not getting the value back on them whether it's league position or contracts running down. If we stay up it will be a miracle which I can't see happening. The season we were due to move to the King Power (Walkers), we got relegated, got promoted and relegated again within 3 seasons which put us into administration. With our potential new stand coming I really fear we will be in the same situation, especially with the impact of Covid on the King Power business. It's a sad state of affairs at my football club. Great Vid Liam, keep up the good work 👍

I like Rogers, but I do think that him leaving could have been for the better, if they found someone to replace him. Since they didnt, it would have been better keeping an experience manager at the helm. The main problem is that he Rogers was not given new players, lost a good gk and had no one to replace him with, and his main striker coming into the season was Vardy, who finally lost the battle with time.

As a Leicester fan, I think we will go down but we will make it up in one or two seasons, and we will end up as a solid mid table side. I honestly think that if Iversen was switched in earlier, maybe the results would be better because clearly there were confidence issue regarding Ward with both himself and the defence. I really think that either they should have fired Rogers nearer to the start of the season, or stick with him until the end, firing him now is a little too late and I do think stick with him till the end would be slightly better.

Im a Leicester fan, and I've enjoyed a nuterals point of view on us right now. For comparison, here's my opinion on the fall of Leicester as a fan 1) The style of play The style of play dramatically changed over the last two seasons. From fast counter attacking play to slow build-up play, trying to pass through teams and allowing teams to press us. 2) The squad is limited in its ability A "Failing" to adapt to a 2nd style of play is and has been an issue for many a year for Leicester, and whilst it's ideal, a team doesn't just have just on method to win. Even before Brendan, managers seemed intent to suddenly switch it up despite continued success when playing our fast-paced counter attacking football. It suggests that there is not enough overall talent in the squad for them to adopt two styles of play. 3) Poor communication between board. & Rogers Top (The nickname we give our owner, btw😅) is kn a very difficult position. He clearly loves the club & longs for this club to do well. But he could have never been prepared for such a difficult few years. Not just losing his father (R.i.p 💙) but on a business scale. I can't imagine how difficult he's finding things right now as a whole. However, he has a board he has employees such as Susan whelan who failed to step up to the mark. The miss communication from higher up to brendan about the available or what turned out to be the case lack of availability for a transfer budget. Unfortunately, every decision that's ultimately been made this season has felt like a gamble, and not one of those gambles has paid off. The mix-up for naturals is that we are not broke. We just pushed the ffp on wage structure. 5) Whoever it is you Blame for this one is 7 squad players 5 have been completely frozen out. Mendy is the only one that baffles me personally he's a good player, but imo he's a starter. The problem with the rest of the players in this list, and yes, i include tielemans in this is the red flag that everyone fears. The chips are down, and whilst as fans, we still believe in loyalty. But in reality, you see it all the time. Do you look at leicester's depth and think, " Oh god, even the bench is strong." No, not this season it hasn't 6) Refusing to allow Vardy to pass the torch The formation doesn't fit the players we have. And we're letting our heart rule our head's with a forever club legend Jamie Vardy. I prayed I'd never see him have an ending like this but sadly here we are. After a two up front season saw nacho out score Jamie Vardy in all competitions Vardy bagging more in the league. The answer to all our worries seemingly stared us in the face. Nacho and Vardy lead the line we sign a young replacement *cough Patson Daka* and that youngster would slowly get game time until Eventually he replaces Vardy and we're left in safe hands. ... or not as the case has been. And despite the fact that Nacho & Daka have rarely played as a two they have 7 goals between them in the league. Which as bad as that seems is 6 more than Vardy. The Vardy card isn't working.

Clubs rise, clubs fall. It was sadly always going to happen. Once Leicester's main core that got them to the dance, slowly drifted away. Kasper, Vardy, among many others that stayed, it all slowly goes down hill. Daka and Iheanacho haven't been able to lace Vardy's boots and cover for his lack of goals this season. If they go down, I can see them having to have a massive rebuild, which could see them stay in the Championship for a few years in order to sort the shift out.

Villa fan here, and watched them smash us 4-2 earlier in the year, and thought they'd turned the corner, but they have not. That game in itself was strange, 3 goals coming from defensive errors from Villa, and Leicester scoring 4 from 4 attempts. There are many problems in the squad at Leicester. They are poor defensively, and no longer carry the threat up-front that Vardy once carried. There also seems to be a lack of game plan, and inability to adopt a plan B when games are not going their way!
