"Leicester South GC" Model Railway by Shipley M.R.S exhibited at Quorn, GCR 16.6.17

The Shipley Model Railway Society brought their superb OO scale model of Leicester South (depicting the ex GC Main Line just south of Leicester Central Station in the 1950s) to the Great Central Railway's annual Model Event at Quorn. Hats off to the hard working society members who worked hard in the hot weather to keep the steady procession of trains moving to delight the many onlookers who visited the show.

Sadly I think that this layout has been decommissioned since the video was posted. You might like to check with the Shipley model railway society.

@@andybennett5570 Thanks Andy, ah well I think sadly might be an understatement. I don't think there are many GC models out there, unless you know otherwise.? I regularly walk the trackbed at Rugby.

Sadly I think that the layout was dismantled after the visit to GCR. You could check with Shipley Model Railway Society. 😒

Something that's been bothering me every time I see this video; at about the 8:00 mark, a blue A3 appears, pulling an express; and in the middle is a very, very weird looking coach, that looks like someone welded together one part of the body of a Mk I with part of a Thompson BG, on an extremely short chassis. What on earth is that?

Good morning, the 'very weird looking coach' is one of the Bulleid Tavern cars built originly for the Southern railway. They were notable in that they were painted to resemble a traditional English pub, with hammer beams, brick work and even a pub sign. The Tavern Car in the video was named 'At the sign of the Dolphin'. A couple were experimentally tried on BR eastern region services including the London Extensions premmier express, the 6.15 P.M. Marylebone Sheffield 'The Master Cutler'. The train in the video is the Master Cutler, One of the first trains in the country to receive the new BR crimson and cream livery. Two newly outshoped blue A3s were allocatred to Leicester shed to work the train, though other locomotives were also used.
