I ran the shuttle trucks for 2 seasons here back in the mid 2000s . Its a unique venue in that the trucks cannot make it to the backstage area for normal unloading and loading. The access road is soo seep and narrow no tractor trailer can make it. So what happens is there is a loading dock ( a giant patio) down the hill near the Trading Post which is the Colorado Music Experience Museum. Tractor trailers offload the gear to be used for the evening concert onto the patio then it gets sorted and loaded onto smaller flatbed /stakebed trucks. Red Rocks is a small venue and you just cant fit an arena or stadium size show into it. So everything needs to be sorted out . The trucks then one at a time drive up a very steep and winding road and only one can back up along the narrow road way that Leland shows briefly in the Pt 1 video when he looks out towards Denver. Reversing into the stage opening 3:15 is the critical part Its about 80 ft and soo tight when backing up that driver has to know exactly when to rub the left front tire on a curb, quickly spin the steering right or left at various points. If not the truck scrapes along the rocks or the stone wall. ts not easy. One of our drivers bent the front bumper way out cause he didnt steer fast enough. Once you made it to the stage doorway, the truck backs into the opening with just a couple inches clearance on each side. The gear gets off-loaded and we drive back down slowly to the trucks and repeat again and again til finished with Load-in. Then take a break for a few hours . After show's over we repeat in reverse. All this adds time to loading in and out. One might ask why dont they make the road wider and stage opening bigger ? Well because this venue is Registered as a National Historic Place it's original structures cannot be altered in any way. The only improvements that were approved to modify are the main stage , it originally had no roof so that made it a none issue per preservation - it received a new roof and rigging beams a couple years ago. And at the top of the seating bleachers where new concession and food stands are being built. Thats right bleachers, the entire seating area is bench seats. The angle of the seating area is what creates that audience in your face feeling for the performers and audiences. When standing on stage you can almost reach out and touch the first 10 rows of people ! Dressing rooms, artists lounge , catering , production offices are all underneath the stage . Basically in an underground bunker. Secret : There is a hole in the rock wall behind the stage that goes all the way down to the lounge catering area 3:53 . The trick is to have someone yell or talk into the hole and freak unknowing people out down in the lounge !

Every one of your road videos is "must-watch TV". I hope you get a chance to interview some of the road crew before you wrap this tour. The range of venues these folks have to adapt to is amazing. And a question for the audio department: do you travel with enough gear to handle the occasional symphony orchestra who might grace the stage? YIKES!
