It's not really as simple as that. I'd say it's like a story of a man who tried to achieve his goals, but through shear lack of confidence in his ability (paired with a want not to be *judged* for his learning), ends up giving up. It mirrors real people's reason also to give up on their dreams. So I'd say it's not really a *lesson* as much as the lyrics and video are a story.

It felt like they were almost looking down upon him like "Oh, look at the poor janitor, thinking he can become as good as us. Let's skate some more instead of approaching him to give him support or lessons." That's how it felt to me honestly.
