Can we appreciate the research done at 11:46? I read his references and unless I’m mistaken, LEMMiNO: - found a book written in Latin (by Kircher) discussing the ashen light, - hired two translators to translate a passage in it to English and also translated it himself to determine that Kircher made his observations about the light in Sicily, - confirmed with two historians and historical records about when Kircher could have been in Sicily (1638 only), - and, as a result, (is possibly the first to have) discovered that Kircher was actually the first to make these observations about the light. He worked with numerous professionals and historical documents and made a possibly new discovery about the ashen light’s discovery just to give proper credit in a 20 second clip of his 34 minute video. That’s incredible
@jim18162 жыл бұрын
And humbly asserting that his understanding of Latin is limited, even though his attempted translation was actually quite good. Thanks for bringing my attention to this fascinating detail within his research. :) It really goes to show the quality of his content and why they take such a long time to make (quality > quantity of course). Makes me appreciate the videos even more!

I'm here with another lemmino update from his patreon. He is done making the video, now he is just editing it. The video consists of 13 chapters, out of which 13 are currently completely finished. See update below. New update: All chapters done, however he still has to render a lot of 3D images, record final voice narration, and add music. All in all, probably one more month to go. Video Uploaded! May this thread be the proof of patience of all of your fans lemmino.

I feel he likes the position he’s in right now by not moving to Netflix or any streaming platform but consistently working on what he wants to work on how he wants to do it. But when he’s over KZbin. LEMMiNO update (4/13 chapters complete) “Four chapters complete! Nine more to go... Now that the video is nearing completion, I thought it might be interesting to see how long the video editing takes by releasing a quick update every time I complete a chapter. This video has 13 chapters in total. Many assume that editing the video takes the longest but it's a relatively fast and linear process. The research and scripting phase is the real time sink because it's so unpredictable. You're constantly searching, adding, removing, refining, rewording, rethinking, reorganizing, etc. with no discernible end in sight. Video editing, on the other hand, has a very clear beginning and end. It's just one sequence after the next until it's done. Anyway, the remaining chapters vary in length and complexity so the interval between updates will also vary a bit. Thank you all for your patience and support :)” Make sure to reply to this comment so that you will get a notif when I post more updates :) EDIT ONE 4/30/23 (5/13 chapters complete) “Chapter five is done! Eight more to go... I promised I would include some images with each update but I can't really do that without spoiling the whole thing so text will have to do for now at least.” EDIT TWO 5/5/23 (6/13 chapters complete) “Chapter six is done! Seven more to go...” EDIT 4/14 (8/13 chapters complete) 8th chapter complete, some in comments speculating it could be about John f Kennedy assignation based off of the image LEMMiNO provided of what seems to be An image Freight elevator of the Texas School book depository

"Your documentaries are legit better than many professional ones" You could argue that lemmino's documentary is less accurate since he is a youtuber and most youtuber have to mix some sort of entertainment out of their videos, lemmino videos generate entertainment through video editing and art style. In order reduce time spent on making a video, it could be that lemmino uses sources that is either hasn't been verified by experts, outdated, first page of google results, and/or even wikipedia even though it is very unlikely. "professional" documentaries looks less well made to the majority of the audience is probably because they more focused on sources and the information they show, if you look at college professor's or experts at something that doesn't mainly involves entertainment, many of their presentations like videos or a powerpoint have really bad art style and/or editing but when it comes to information, they explain a lot of things. For me, his videos looks both extremely entertaining and very informative but don't just think 100% of the information that is shown are 100% correct. Being skeptical isn't bad, trusting something blinded without verified by an expert or even yourself is.

Another commenter called @McD 49 pointed out that Lemmino had to - find a book written in Latin (by Kircher) discussing the ashen light, - hire two translators to translate a passage in it to English and also translated it himself to determine that Kircher made his observations about the light in Sicily, - confirm with two historians and historical records about when Kircher could have been in Sicily (1638 only), - and, as a result, discover that Kircher was actually the first to make these observations about the light. Lemmino himself liked that comment, so he probably went through this process to find that fact. If that's not being first, I don't know what is.

This video has convinced me that the apparent obsession of humanity for "cosmic neighbors" is not a product of modern science fiction and pop culture, but rather is something intrinsically human,. The desire to not be alone, the desperation of finding brethren across the stars, even after 400 years of scientific progress, humanity has yet to give up in the search for life in other worlds. It astounds me that even as early as the 1700s, people theorized, speculate, and fantasized about extraterrestrials societies on other worlds, and I'm sure some people even earlier thought about that too, at this point, it would not surprise me of some Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek or Chinese writers made detailed stories narrating fantasies and epics about people out of this world.

It's also plain curiosity. With the knowledge that there are other planets out there -- planets that are similar to ours, and yet maybe their rain flies sideways, or their sky is a lovely shade of purple -- comes the question of whether there are others like us out there. Are they carbon based, or are they silicon-based? Do they drink the same water as us? Can they see more colors? The idea of a sentient being out there with qualities that we wish we had is a lovely one to most people.

If anybody is wandering where the video is, me too. He finished 13/13 chapters on June 8(whichever timezone you are in), where he mentioned he has to add narration, music, crisp up the editing, references and other miscellaneous admistrative. June 13 he gave another update before/during the Reddit blackout. In there he said he is finishing the video, with and he quotes, “rendering is going to take awhile”. This very likely means he hasn’t touched up fully before the rendering process but likely needs a day or 2 to finish the final polish. Then his rendering. For reference, his PC to render bygone was a high end 2016 gaming pc. Mind you, it’s a gaming pc to edit his quality of videos. It took him around 30 hours for this render. This upcoming video will consist of tons of high quality animations and graphics. Speculated to be a little over 2hrs long. His new pc has a threadripper, 3090 and 256 GB of quite high speed ram. This PC alone is ridiculous in its editing and rendering capabilities. As far as I know, the threadripper is hella good for rendering etc. I would say a solid 80 hours of rendering it. That’s fair imo. That would put it to June 17/18. Coupled with some basic KZbin admistrative like ads, check for copyright etc. the video should have been more than ready by June 20. And that’s taking into maximum duration. I highly doubt post June 13, he has much work left on his video before rendering. Assuming most redditors are correct, by June 18 he had already finished the vid. Even I am puzzled, you had long finish the vid for what seems like almost a week already? Why isn’t he uploading on the dot? Really hope he uploads that banger soon. And I certainly hope is ok at the moment from the burnout. If he is really waiting for the 5 mil count, by estimates it would take him about 1.5 months (by social blade numbers) to get to 5 mil.

Lemmino's documentaries are worth every second of waiting. Sci-fi has a special place in my heart, and it's fascinating to explore real concerns and mentality that led to the foundations of so many amazing stories about the cosmos and ourselves. I also love 20th century history and it's amusing to see the impact of ancient speculation well into the Cold War, as space exploration got serious. What a great channel!

This is sort of tragically sad, in a way. As a species, whenever our ability to observe neighboring worlds improved and showed no signs of life at all, let alone fellow intelligence... we moved our theories and hopes for not being *alone* farther into the ever slimming margins of possibility. Basically, "there are people on the moon!" And then after finding the moon is barren, "there could be an atmosphere and civilization on the other side" and even now in some circles on the internet after we've found the "dark" side to be equally barren, many believe that there could be intelligent life underground *inside* the moon, or even that it's a hollow ancient spaceship. It's heartbreaking, we held on to the idea with all of our minds' strength, but observations proved the solar system to be desolate in every case so far. Our biggest hope anymore is some life on Europa, possibly a bit complex but unlikely to be intelligent like us. Maybe like octopi or cetaceans, if we're very lucky! It's understandable to put all the cognitive bias possible into not being alone, and this video was a wonderful deep dive into that.

As far as im aware. Either we search for another solar system with a planet that has earth-like properties. Or keep on reaching the extent of even a slight chance at a slight hint of lifeforms, with at least some sort of sentiment or adaptive survivability vastly far from what we would’ve expected.

It's amazing how child-like these educated men were in their thinking, they had big imaginations and took huge leaps in logic to justify their dreams. It really puts history into perspective, it puts people into perspective. We may be far more educated now, but logic is powerless before belief, superstition and imagination.
@neeneko2 жыл бұрын
I think a big part of it was that dramatic leaps are what got you attention outside their own niches. There really was not a professional community back then, more amateurs doing it for the fun and recognition. So the ones that made claims (even if it was in passing) that could be consumed by the media at the time (which was expensive to operate, so a lot less low readerership fluff).
