I think by the mid 80s the interesting music was gone, same old rifs and rhythms rehashed ad nauseam. I agree, the creative peek was in the mid 70s, and Warrior on the edge of time their best album. They recently played a gig in my home town, I had a look at recent performances, and had a listen to their latest album, and sadly my opinion isn’t changed, I didn’t go, and its really time to retire the bird Dave. I used to love Hawkwind, my favourite band, but what is touring and recording now, for me, no longer has the magic, case of the sum of the parts, and dave on his own is missing a great deal of what made the band special, back in the day. I know many will disagree.

Most definitely. And when Lemmy left, so did she - both off to different phases of their lives. She had a family, became an artist - Lemmy with motörhead (a different kind of trip) And Hawkwind began a whole other thing - then nik turner left did his own thing - others left did their thing. But if you think about it, it all ended up perfect and perfectly spacerock, psychidelic for all its members. I still dig the new stuff, and want to go to England next month to catch their concert with Arthur Brown, but I could only dream of doing that stuck in Chicago. I mean, Brown is in his 80s and the Hawks.... but somehow both bands are still touring strong, making records. Brown's new album is the craziest he had ever done, pure freakrock loud and insane - the Hawks have mellowed to an intricate psychidelic atmospheric thing. I'm proud of them all, alive and dead, nik turner and lemmy are gone..... Rock n roll🍄

Live, she was one of the best parts of the Magic this group activated on stage. As i see it, it was like Ancient British Pagans meeting Cosmic Envoys at the dawn of a new time on Earth (an insight motivated by the og edition of DoReMiFa...'s sleeve inlay). I discovered Hawkwind in 75, at 12, and I've never stopped hunting their albums since. A serious case of oneofakindness in Blighty's classic Rock (Hard and Heavy, Prog, Psych, Kraut, Space-Folk, you name it, they nailed it all).

I have posted this before on YT channels that talk about Lemmy. I saw Motorhead on the Bomber tour in Birmingham UK. Sometime in 1980's, I have lost my ticket. Anyhow, performers did not have ear pieces back then, to protect their hearing. I had ringing in my ears and head bangers neck for days. It was loud! As I was going to the bus stop, for the last bus home or walk for 10 miles, I saw a huge crowd rush towards the back of the Odeon. Lemmy was out back signing autographs and having his photo taken. No smart phones or internet in these days. Totally fearless, totally loved and respected. I never met him. My mates were all for the last bus home after the concert. I wish I had stayed. Anyone who bothered me on the long walk home would've paid a price! I had Motorhead adrenalin in me. By the way, they played Overkill as an opener. It goes on for ages. When it finished Lemmy said, and I quote, "Bollocks! Bollocks to all of you you. If you don't like us, f*** O**. To everyone else, here is Bomber!" Legend.

As much as Motorhead were brilliant and Lemmy's crowning glory, I always get the impression from interviews that - beside the bitterness - he really regretted not being in Hawkwind. Their last album with him was their absolute creative peak, IMHO, and they could have done anything from there.

It's not only you, i'm sure, since Lemmy's face seems to lighten up in nostalgic admiration of what they managed to do together between 71 and 75. WARRIOR ON THE EDGE OF TIME. That album was what turned me to Hawkwind in late 75, when i was a 7th grader in a class of Floydheads. Freakin Space-epic.

Paul Rudolph who Stacia mentions as Lemmy's replacement had not long left the Pink Fairies due to some of the band's abuse of hard drugs. Hawkwind already knew Rudolph from joint Fairies/Hawkwind & 'Pinkwind' gigs & jams in the past and the more recent Captain Lockheed & the Starfighters concept album. I'm pretty sure having a ready-made replacement who knew their back catalogue and was without a band was a key factor in Lemmy's sacking.

Must admit thank god they sacked him and Motorhead was born...however it's quite clear Lemmy was angry about getting sacked off by hawkwind...bitter

They were even immortalised in a science fantasy book, I think from memory was titled "Elric of Melnibone", or something like that, penned by an author with the either unfortunate, or fortunate, depending on your perspective, name of Michael Moorcock.🤭

Gotcha, mate. There was at least one book, maybe a sequal, called Time Of The Hawklords, by Michael's Moorcock and Butterworth. I have it here in my hand. Not a very good book, but I've kept it nonetheless. Moorcock did write some books about a character named Hawkmoon, but I believe that was prior to Hawkwind.

@@simonagree4070 Yeah, it was a VERY long time ago, I read them back in the seventies when I was a kid still. That's how I came to know of Hawkwind, was through those books. Then I bought an album, and I thought that these guys were on some trippin' stuff.👍🤣

There was a fair bit of collaboration between Hawkwind and MM. Amongst other things, their album "Chronicles of the Black Sword" is based on Moorcock's Elric stories and I think he even got a gold disc for lyrical contributions to an earlier release.

@@sd3457 Yeah right? I used to enjoy those books when I was a kid, one of the reasons being how MM would integrate Hawkwind into the storyline.

You can hear Michael Moorcock in certain HW songs like “Sonic Attack” and his lyrics were a big part of their sci-fi / fantasy vibe.

He would have known exactly where he was and what he was doing, it just would have been in a seperate dimension at the time. 🌎🌠🌌🌛🪐😎 There are many more dimensions we can all tune into and a good way to get there, is to listen to any of the Hawkwind back catalogue from 1970 to1984 especially 😉✌✊👌🙏

@@samanthablackman4960 Hi Samantha, sorry to be a pain in your ass ! If you get some free time could you upload the SECOND Hawkwind clip, from disc 2 please ? I have given up on buying a copy, as a seller I have found is asking a crazy extortionate price, so he will have to hope the weather stays fine. I think I am still in mourning for Nicky 2 weeks on. I still cannot accept the co-pilot of Space Ritual is surfing the astral realm. There is no justice. Thanks again. S
