There's a secret sample pack at the end of Lemon D 'TwoTechniques' (Dillinja Remix) from 1999. It has a lot of their drums and splashy percussion from the era.

Great video!! Love this dutty style. Would love an early-mid 00’s Renegade Hardware type video! Vicious Circle type stuff.

Renegade Hardware would be cool. I used to go to a lot of those nights. Loxy & Ink I love. Also had Jubei in the works for a while is one of my faves :) 🔊✌️

Apparently Dillinja used to run his mixdowns to DAT so loud that the noise floor would be almost running red 🤣😂
@squarelanguage2 ай бұрын
Similarly people used to push up the gain on a bass through a Mackie mixer to get mixer noise over the bass (Dom & Roland iirc)
@groovining2 ай бұрын
I'm sure Dillinja did both those technique and others like slamming in EQ & compressors :) 🔊✌️

I used to listen to drum and bass mixes on cassette tapes a lot which really softened the drums, which I liked. When you filtered the top end, it reminded me of this.

I think I'm a bad D&B fan because when I listen to those old live tapes I wonder why MCs were so popular at raves.
@squarelanguage2 ай бұрын
@@BCThunderthud they're still popular and there's actually a recent Ed Rush and Optical live mix on KZbin where the MC is muted in the mix but whoever was at the show heard them

@@squarelanguage It's weird because drum & bass records hardly ever had rapping but on live mixes they never shut up.

@@BCThunderthudif you don't like mcs than this culture isn't for you
@BCThunderthud2 ай бұрын
@@darkstranjahjunglebunny3667 You might be right. I'm old and American so I've been listening to this stuff for 30 years but it's been a different kind of engagement from over here, my raving years were mostly over by the time they starting having D&B rooms. I had friends who promoted parties but they were into deep house, which I didn't really like. Sometimes I'd go to reggae parties with MCs but most of them were pretty wack too, at least in California.

My favorite Dillinja technique is when he would filter cutoff the crash cymbal at the end of the amens and it would sound something like 8:18.
@datapusher-2 ай бұрын
Thats more of a pitch envelope / shift on that hit, but I feel ya.

Tape stop was used to death on old technics that’s how this is achieved

@@groovining An idea for another video? :) Exploring Dillinja filtered amens. I always thought it was an automated LP that he resampled but it never sounded quite the same when I tried then again I don't have an EMU.

@@farben_ I think its probably a triggered envelope of filter on every hit? I will have a look into it. There is another part to this series after the bass one. Could be cool to include in that!
