Chef John, I just found your channel and website and I am now totally addicted to Food Wishes! Where have you been hiding the past, what? 8 years?!? I guess I should have checked the kitchen. Thanks for all the great recipes served with the kind of smart-ass wit I appreciate. My wife also thanks you since I do the cooking at our house and now she gets to eat stuff that tastes ... well, a lot better than before. Thank you, thank you thank you!

"Buffalo Gals" by Malcolm McLaren 1982, Eminem references it in "Without Me". Chef John and I must have older siblings (WAY older) that would play the original ... we are both 21 :)

When I'm really lazy I like to just put a bottle of Powerade in the freezer and shake it about every 30 minutes until it's chunky enough. Maybe drink a little bit of it beforehand so there's room for it to shake.
@adoresessy1018 жыл бұрын
That's... actually a good idea. I'll try this with a lemonade or some other drink lol. I'm so lazy to even boil water and mix it with a fork. Whoop.

Same here...too lazy. I like the frozen lemonade idea in a bottle, just shake. :)

Flowering Mandevilla Vine same story, different outcome. the water was for pasta so she put oil and salt on it. not only did the pot got black and crusty. the kitchen was white in smoke.

***** WOW! :-P Gawd it's kinda scary that just trying to cook & making a mistake or forgetting about something could cause a disturbing & possibly dangerous outcome! One time my cousin was sent to the store for a head of lettuce & came back w/cabbage & family members teased her so bad she never tried to cook anything ever again. Ever. She's the one who messed up the boiling water

I always add the tiniest pinch of salt. It slightly lowers the freezing temperature and brightens the flavour just a bit. Always guarantees a sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia when eating.
@AlexTheKing118 жыл бұрын
Chef John, you're a real inspiration but I have two questions: how many fork mixes did it take for you to get to the desired texture, and who taught you how to cook?

This can also be made with crushed blackberries. The berries give the final product an almost creamy texture. Oh and crushed pear slices as well as long as they're VERY ripe.

I once put some Irish Mist into a wine skin for a day of skiing on Sunshine in Banff.40 below that day. On the way up my mustache had rather long icicles attached.My buddy and I stopped after a while for a drink. The Irish Mist turned into this wonderful slushie. That was cool! Pun equally intended.

How do you keep this once it's made? I get the idea it would turn to a solid block of ice if I left it in the freezer without "a freezin' and a forkin'" it all the time.
@Chemeleon158 жыл бұрын
once it's made, the sugar content and shape of the ice crystals will stop it from freezing into a block unless you let it melt slightly.

Question: if we are saving it for later and we stick it in the freezer, it'll solidify.. so once we're ready to eat more after that point, what needs to be done? Or is it only all to be eaten pretty much right away? Thanks!

@roky13378 жыл бұрын
Hmm, thinking out loud maybe add a splash of limoncello in the water before you put it in the freezer? The alcohol would make the end product even more "snowey" and the lemons would make it even more "lemoney" ...
