I thought all Golden Shots apart from 4 had been wiped, great to see this one, Charlie Williams didn't do a bad job on this one, thanks for downloading 👍 and great too, to see Alton Douglas appearing - Brilliant Download

It was one of her first guest spots on a big show and Charlie seemed to go out of his way to put her at ease.

A lot was found in Bob monk houses personal collection i think around 29 are preserved .

The 7/8 year old me liked The Golden Shot. It was good light hearted entertainment.

THIS WAS Charlie williams last Show.......as when the show returned for the 1974/75 final season.....BOB MONKHOUSE returned...triumphantly......to continue being the game show legend ..until his death in 2003......long live BOB...xxxx

It's a shame, he was a good comedian but I don't think that the game show format suited him. To his credit this was Lena's first big show and he seemed to go out of his way to put her at ease.

I pity anybody trying to do a show that Bob once did. The best they could hope for is a distant second best.

I agree, he had big shoes to fill plus we are very conservative and always hate any change.

I think that was the same time where someone asked Bob Monkhouse to get back to the show, which happened a week before Charlie Williams' final show was about to air. And when Charlie Williams said that the show would return for a few weeks (which is probably April), that didn't happen and i guess that ATV decided to end the series for 3 months until July due to Monkhouse preparing for his return on the show, which means Charlie ended up getting sacked.

He was a good comedian, but I don't think that the format of the show really suited his style.

I was 10 when this programme was on television and very much preferred Bob Monkhouse to Charlie Williams.

Interesting that they let the warm up man tell the jokes to break up Charlie's pieces to camera.

It was Peter Pritchard, Bob's agent who persuaded Bob to return for one final series before Bob moved on Celebrity Squares. This was on 20th March 1974, Charlie's final show was 11 days later. But Charlie and his predecessor Norman Vaughan would appear on the final edition in April 1975.

Yes, the show was a struggle for him, so he only did the one series.

I think this was the only genuine game show in the country during the 70s, game shows in the UK didn't really fully kick off until the 80s (compared to dozens or even hundreds of game shows already available across the pond) and also it's the 70s so only few episodes survive, a lot of beige and orange, the hostesses are almost stereotypical for the decade, the show itself is mixed with variety (eugh) and God, the style and the humour certainly haven't aged well. it is a bit shit but episodes with Monkhouse are fairly enjoyable to watch
