I just keep re-watching this track and video (and Luck Number) since it popped up on KZbin - I had forgotten just how kooky and original and catchy Lene Lovich was. I just love the endingof this clip - the original footage from the Saturn V Apollo 4 rocket and booster discard and the two as 'space travellers'; mind you - that was being done by Mr. Bowie ten years before - and by other bands like Hawkwind - before Ms. Lovich !

@@nick16279 Nothing wrong with being termed New Wave-which presented many of the best artists, trouble is it was mainly used for the men, and the cool women-Kim Wilde, Toyah, Grace Jones and Lene Lovich were lucky to be even described thus, when they were as good as the men were!

Love Lene Lovich. So sad she was far ahead of her time and practically stood alone even in the 80s crowd. It was Lene that led me (in 80s America) to listen to other Euro-similar sounds ..... all of them in the New Romantic scene. Strange, though, I don't recall that Lene was ever with the in-crowd at The Blitz or if she had ever mentioned even being there on occasion. Anyhoo, her sound was definitely New Romantic but there was a certain ambiance about her that placed her in the center of her own crowd. All these years later (geez, it's been 32) she's more listenable that ever before.
@zaiten2012
@zaiten2012 9 жыл бұрын
Nate Parrish I'm curious to know what euro-similar bands you found thanks to Lene. I'm terribly smitten with her music right now. No doubt there's something romantic about her, but it definitely ain't New Romantic. I'd say she has less to do with Duran Duran or Ultravox and more in common with The Cure and Bauhaus. I reckon she was a pioneer of new wave gothic.

Typical that the brainless of 1982 that orgasms over the coming of the antichrist (madogga) and let's the likes of Weller, Wham!, Sting, Stranglers, Kid Creole, Phil Collins, The Cure, Fun Boy Three, Bananarama and any amount of shite novelty records go into the charts all the time at utterly undeserved and astoundingly unrealistic placings UTTERLY ignores this truly amazing song. That's TYPICAL masses behaviour THAT is! They do to ALL the best people and always have and always will!

@@rocksteadyrein6516 The thing is, I'm sad to say, I only came across Lene as more than just a 'one-song wonder' very recently, so naturally now I'm on her videos often and listening to her stuff, and this is one of the best songs of the lot. So typical of a 1980s audience. Wish I'd discovered her years ago; it doesn't help her legacy is shunted out of the way of so many, but at least I'm here now, but praise you, you've known of this song a lot longer than me. It has No.1 written all over it.

Stay a while at the Blue Hotel, Excite your mind Acid Queen #1. Her favourite music? Jim Morrison and the Doors. Too Right. And Lene Lovich songs show it. Also no surprise David Bowie wanted her. The best Female original Artist I know. Beautiful, original, seminal the best of the best. New Toy, You can't Kill me, Wonderful One, Angel, Mein Schmertz, The Freeze, Lucky Number One, Say When, The Night, What would I be without you, etc etc. The superior punk Acid Queen, better than Grace Slick!!

I've just listened again to Lene Lovich and watched this video clip. I remember 'Lucky Number' being released as a single in 1979 in my teenage years. I wonder if her Serbian-Balkan roots and ancestry have anything to do with her 'gothic' fixation and appearance - yes, I am aware that she is from Detroit, USA originally but later grew up in the UK. I think that musically she was probably influenced, too, by artists from the past - and probably contemporaries - like Iggy Pop and David Bowie. She also sounds a bit like the French singer Edith Piaf - but very original, too. You can see her influence on later musical artists, too - most notably Lady Gaga and probably Billie Eillish of the recent generation of female singers - who also, I think, owe a large debt to Mr. Bowie !
@user-wp8vy8le3y
@user-wp8vy8le3y 7 ай бұрын
It's also interesting to watch clips like this from the late 1970s/early 1980s to see the influence on contemporaries of the time; the Stranglers single and video of 'Duchess' springs to mind; probably Devo's track and video of 'Are We Not Men ? We are Devo !', Kate Bush's stuff like 'Wuthering Heights' from this era and I would suggest Bowie's stuff and videos - 'Ashes to Ashes', for example.

A musician got hold of some master tapes from an 80’s band and decided to have them digitised so the information could be stored on a USB stick which would forwarded to the buyer. The guy decided that he would ask for money to be donated to enable him to achieve this. There were 5 people who could’ve contributed to his scheme but he decided only to ask 3. He suggested £125 should cover one portion of his costs as he was intending to ask others to contribute the same amount until the full cost had been raised. What he omitted to tell his friend, who gladly parted with the £125, that the USB stick would be available ‘GRATIS’ to anyone else who wanted one. The friend who parted with his hard earned cash felt duped and betrayed by his long-standing friend of 40 years. He kept thinking of the old phrase ‘A fool and his money are easily parted’… The man who performed this deed is not regarded as a ‘Scammer’ or a modern day ‘Robin Hood’ but he is regarded, by his family and friends, as a genuinely good person and a great Dad. My opinion of this person has changed, to put it politely. If he agreed to clear his conscience and return the money I would consider that an end to the matter. You hear stories of Scams on the news, but you don’t expect it from your friends.
