@bunny lover idk I’ve never really delt with a situation like this, my father was pretty accepting of my bunny living indoors. Maybe, ask for a “free trial” of sorts where you just keep the bunnies inside for a week and if they don’t destroy anything then they stay another week. So, easing your parents into the idea that having bunnies in your room wouldn’t be so bad.

We did the exact opposite. My family rescued a bunny who had been confined to a dirty, dilapidated hutch for four years. She’s a white bunny, but she was covered in her own urine when we got her. Yes, I bathed her. Well, I spot-cleaned her. I didn’t submerge her. I used a cloth and a bucket of warm water and some soap to try and scrub her clean. She wasn’t happy, but she was filthy. She needed a fresh start. We took an ax to the hutch and brought her inside. She now has a room to herself with a hidey house, a litter box full of hay, dishes for her food and water, and a soft bed. She’s allowed to free roam, but she does drop poops everywhere and sometimes has pee accidents. The vet says she’s spayed and perfectly healthy, so I don’t know. I don’t mind. She’s clean and happy and adorable. It took eight months to earn her trust, but now she does zoomies and binkies and is friendly and happy. Bunnies deserve better than a cold, wet, stinky hutch. Oh, she also had warvles and the snuffles from being outside. The vet helped us with those. She’s all better now and thriving.

Try a plastic table cloth with felt back lining. Out on floor, felt lining up. When she pees on it, spray with vinegar/water and absorb, but keep “pad” out. Once she establishes (multiple times over many days) that she will go there, cut it down to fit under litter box so that is sticks out 2 feet in each direction (just enough that she is attracted to it and might/can pee on it, but the lure is to the box.

Thank you so much for raising this issue. I'm from the UK and a very proud bun mum to two house bunnies who actually live in what used to be my dining room (and they have access to other areas too). I wouldn't have it any other way and I would rather the bunnies have as much space as they need. I would have been mortified if my bunnies were kicked out and the room was given back to the humans to use, or however she worded it. It is beyond horrible how the bunnies have been treated and the BBC have responded to all of our complaints with a cr*ppy, generic response, which isn't good enough. Poor bunnies need to not be treated as 2nd class citizens. Thank you again for raising this issue in the U.S. 💞

Rabbits don’t belong outside period they don’t because there are just soo many predators outside that could hurt them… but what the RSPCA say is that it’s okay for rabbits to be outside in hutches with a rub but that’s not right at all cause you can easily adjust a bunny to being indoors I told the RSPCA that a bunny can have supervised access outside it’s just too risky with other animals and plants

Growing up (I am German, so I am not sure if this plays a role), all my friends had bunnies that they kept outside in hutches in the winter. With no free-roam area. Just a tiny hutch, out in the cold German winters. And Fressnapf, one of the biggest petstore chains, still sells these hutches!! Nowadays there are also thermal protectors to keep the hutches more warm, but I am very sceptical as to how effective those are.

I’m so so glad you’ve covered this! I was disgusted when I saw it aired and immediately complained. They had over 2 million people view this programme when it aired and knowing that the misinformation or for people to think and take away that this is an acceptable living standards for bunnies because they don’t regard them in the same capacity as a dog or cat, it’s horrible! Stacey herself has a dog, so I’d love to know her opinion if somebody thought the dog having a kennel to sleep outside in would be acceptable. I could never imagine confining my bunnies to this - the bbc responded too saying that they supposedly were originally in the garden but brought inside for neutering and to be returned outdoors anyway. And supposedly have the roam of the garden, but even so it’s not to the RWAF guidelines and clearly research for all parties needs to be done x

I had rabbits throughout my childhood. We did not have the space to keep them in the house (we also tended to have them in pairs so they wouldn’t be lonely). What we did do was put them in a hutch that was inside a shed, but also gave them free range of the garden. I don’t think they could have had a better life- they had apple wood to keep their little claws trim; fresh grass to eat and a tree to rest under. That said, having this couples’ bunnies go from being inside to outside is pretty thoughtless.

Lorelei, f I remember correctly from your UK makeover episode, their equivalent of SPCA had out door living in a hutch as an acceptable alternative for domestic rabbits. This doesn't surprise me that BBC wouldn't know any better. The best way to look at this situation is replace rabbit habitat with cat litterbox/climbing house. If someone is helping a homeowner to redesign a living space that a cat was occupying, they wouldn't be expected to relocate the cat outdoors to make room for the breakfast nook. You'd find another place in the home, or make the new space inclusive.

As a teen living in the UK, I had an outside bunny with hutch and a reasonable sized run. We'd also let her in the house for a play each day too. Sadly she died of a heart attack when a wild dog entered our garden looking for food. Point is, even with an enclosure, outside areas are not always safe for our furry friends! My current bun is the man in my life and has the roam of my house. Even with his big warm coat he loves to lie by a warm radiator, so outside temps are probably not ideal for all bunnies. Humans can survive icy cold, but it doesn't mean that we want to. Same for our furry friends.

I leave the door open so that she won't feel "caged," and my siamese gets in there. They sit on opposite sides of the top level, each minding their own business. Cats do like any kind of boxes. I think it's funny, and Pebbles doesn't seem to mind.

My mom kinda did this with our rabbits, they were living in her office but now they’re in the backyard. No hutch, no protection, just hanging out under the deck all the time and chilling in the rain:(

I'm from the UK and the winters are horrid. I have 2 completely free roam indoor bunnies and having heard of this find it so disgusting. Rabbit welfare needs to be more widely considered and published, hutches should no longer be sold or available anywhere. Even my local petshops know nothing about these beautiful intelligent animals. Having them live with you we get to see their real personality and just what a joy they bring.

This is the same BBC that, for reasons totally unknown, let Chris Chibnal run Doctor Who into the ground and destroy 50+ years of continuity. They didn’t do anything about millions of people upset about that: they aren’t going do anything about the bunnies. We need UKers to do a rescue. Ninjas! We need Ninjas!

Thank you for addressing this! This whole situation is devastating not just for those bunnies, but the way the British public have been reacting too. I've seen so many comments on articles saying that's where bunnies belong, saying that if pet stores sell them then they can't be bad, as well as much more sinister ones. This could've been such a good learning experience for the public since Stacey is so influential here, especially among the older generations. Another infuriating detail is that Stacey considers herself an animal activist, she's vegan and works with multiple animal charities, yet couldn't do the research to house those buns properly, removing them like clutter. So gross.

I live in the Netherlands and this is how most rabbits live here. The BBC said that they have the whole garden to roam during the day and they are in the hutch at night. Most rabbit rescues recommend this kind of set up, they would also rarely make you adopt rabbits if you say you’re gonna keep them indoor. Most rescues in the NL encourage outdoor set ups for bunnies. I am not saying this is right, I have two indoor bunnies, but this is how it is. Talking with other people, I know that this is common in the UK too.

I 100% agree with you ❤ - definite downgrade for the 2 bunnies and also I think shame on the owners for being so happy about having back their “precious” conservatory… if you’re not going to love your pet(s), don’t have any in the first place! ☹️It’s a sad sight because it’s like they never watched your videos: it’s best to have a free roaming rabbit, lots of mats in the house so they don’t get hurt on the hardwood flooring, and plenty of hay, some treats, cuddles and conversation. As always, thanks for another great video and lots of ❤ to you and Lennon 💯

I know you have a strong opinion about outdoor housing. I partially agree with you. Rabbits need space, definitely! But large predator proof aviaries can be built, with free access to the garden during the day. I have both options. The rabbits that don't develop a winter coat live inside. My other rabbits are outside and love everything about it. My senior has even really blossomed! He no longer has inflamed eyes (all cleared with a vet, of course). It CAN be enriching if you pay attention to a lot. But, of course, it's a lot more work. That's why I tend to recommend to most that they keep the rabbits inside and just dedicate at least one room.

Yes where I'm from, there are a lot of outdoor rabbits and they seem to like it a lot when done right. But Lorelei is so adamant about outdoor rabbits being only the wrong and bad thing, it bugs me because she doesn't seem to have the right info about it. It's one thing to say an opinion, but I feel she is almost spreading misinfo about it.

I'm so glad you brought this up. I really enjoy this show and Stacey is a very nice person. But it was such a shame to see the lack of education from who ever made the disistion to move the bunnies. I watched the show the other day and hoped throughout the whole episode that they wouldn't move them in the end, and when they did I thought now one would bat an eyelid due to the lack of rabbit education here in the UK. Hopefully a change will be made and the bunnies will be ok. ❤️

Our bunnies live with us. The narrator made it sound like they were a disruption to the family living. It would have been better to re-home the bunnies to another family to adopt rather than send out in the hutch. Or maybe they were not social humans to their bunnies and used that room as a catch all and bunnies an after thought 🤔. There could have been so much more to enhance for the whole family. Would this woman kick out a dog or cat from the family living space too?

On a bright side, the underneath of that seating area would make a great rabbit hiding place conversation if they was brought back inside, drill a entrance door and make seat tops liftable and boom, maybe that's why she's crying... Soon to come back inside Stacey.

I would have been so pissed off right away. As soon as she would have shown me that she moved my family members outside because my animals are a part of my family, I would have immediately lost it and told her she has no right to do this without discussing it with me first and I would have told her no. The bunnies stay inside and yes you are allowed to redo the room but it needs to be redone for the bunnies because that's their room and NOT for me. I mean I think this is just so heartless. And I'm very curious if the owners brought them back inside afterwards
