I realize this video was a long time ago but im wondering if you preferred this sort of carrier to one with a waist belt?

Comfort-wise, no. But these are great because they take up way less space than one with a waist belt. I preferred onbuhimos for shorter ups vs a SSC with a waist that I could wear for a very long time comfortably. (Though ting slings are my all-time favorite carrier type for versatility!)
