Rachel I love how you are experimenting and coming up with alternative products for this shortage problem. They say necessity is the mother of invention or in this case an alternative source. Thanks for sharing your findings.

I don't remember if you tried Tarlatan. I've never used it personally, but I've watched videos made by historical costumers who have used it for stiffening the hems of skirts, especially those made with wool, to keep them flared out and out from under the wearers feet. From what I can tell, it should work as a buckram substitute. It's heavily starched and its main purpose it to clean printing plates. There are a few different weights of it available form several suppliers. When I first heard of it, the cost was $2.00 a yard. No, that's not a typo. So if it will work, it will be friendly to the production budget.
