Iv had this laptop for a week now and I'm ready to make mini-review for anybody who possibly still has some questions left, hope it helps. The build quality as said is fairly premium feeling considering it is made out of plastic. Screen has a fair color range and contrast I only wish it was a bit brighter, definitely not for outdoor use or with the panel facing a window for that matter. Speakers are what you would expect in a laptop, not great, kinda bad, headphones strongly advised. The keyboard is actually surprisingly nice, short travel, yet a bit of satisfying click to it. I always had a bit of a preference for laptop keyboards over mechanical tho I can confidently say this will suit the vast majority, regardless of what they previously used. Pen is not half bad, suited for recreational drawing and maybe taking notes if you manage to position the laptop in a comfy enough way. If you plan to use it for notetaking regularly, or even sometimes, I suggest you buy a tablet. Now, I do have a couple of complaints, nothing big, but it could be a dealbreaker for somebody else, so: the backlighting is quite dim, and I have to strain my eyes to see ANY difference in the two levels of brightness available. This one is both good and bad, the hinge is rather stiff. Great for using it in tent mode, tablet mode, etc. but makes it a real pain in the ass to open, and with one hand? Don't even try. The screen itself is also pretty heavy so be careful when balancing it on your lap. AMD is really coming threw with bang for the buck lately but one thing where they are still falling behind..software. Now, this may vary from unit to unit, but prepare for a lot of updating and potential issues along the way with some apps or games. That being said, I am thoroughly impressed with this little vega 8 chip, it packs quite a punch, any lite to medium gaming is easily handled at a very smooth rate. Keep in mind, it doesn't bring its own vram, it "borrows" its from the system ram, 2gb of it. At first I thought it is only on demand, but no. You effectively have 2gb of ram less. There are some differences between actually having 2gb less and this, but not that many. That leads me to my biggest advice, buy the amd 10 or 12 gb version, unless your only option is 8gb, like it was for me. Overall, it is a really capable and portable piece, happy I went for it. Almost forgot, flex5 is out for some time now and if it is available in you country with the amd version, I say go for it. I have no idea what the price difference may be but id be comfortable paying 15% more for it, going of the reviews iv seen.

@@avinashheeralal8737 i havent played fortnite on it but i can tell you that it runs gta v smooth on high settings if you are packing 10gb of ram, also world of tanks is really smooth on low, hope this helps. Also you can just search youtube for vega 8 ryzen 5 fortnite

I just got the 4500U version of this, love it so far. Main physical difference seems to be a smaller chin, 2 air intake rows on the bottom, and the speakers are front facing in laptop mode now.

Great video Devon! I have the AMD version and I'm pretty happy with my purchase so far. For anyone looking for a more recent version, look for this year's Flex 5 but make sure to buy off Amazon- it's much cheaper than the official store. Also, GET THE AMD VERSION! It's a much better performer for the same price as Intel.

I have the Flex 7 w 3700U , 512 pcie-nvme & Vega 10, love it and I like the ability to activate backlighting via space bar, There is no better value , with the 4500U out it is excellent value as well as the 4700U

EDIT: This was caused by poor electrical wiring in my apartment. Disregard. I recently picked up the latest Flex 14 off Amazon, and I adore it with one minor flaw: Using the stylus with the USB C charger plugged in makes the stylus semi-unusable.

Can you elaborateon that please?Was the pen blocking the c port, or do you mean that pen stopped working when you plugged the laptop in.

The tracking for the pen becomes less accurate and seems to stutter randomly. It doesn't happen consistently when it's plugged in via usb C. Interestingly enough, it has a slot for a regular barrel-style AC adapter, and I've ordered one to see if it fixes the issue - I suspect either the USB-C charger has some voltage issues (like a crappy phone charger making a screen spazz out) or usb-C charging was included on the motherboard as an afterthought. I'll post here again with the results when it comes in.

My experience was horific, out of the box I get 20 min battery use ,, and zero pen with the product. zero screen visibility due to reflections providing I can keep it on long enough to see it. So either you're talking about a different product or I sadly got a defective one. I want to love it , and would if it had a pen and a battery life.

this is very strange about screen brightness, cause I have the keys up on my function keys, and the lightbulb on the spacebar is actually to turn on / off backlight keys and not for adjusting screen brightness.... and now when I watch the video you can clearly see the brightness keys are over 0 key on top of the keyboard.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe I missunderstood you. :)

You can upgrade the ram ok the new 2020 model with 4700u and 4500u. Boo! But the prices are still good. $750 for 16gb 4700u and 512gb nvme is good. :)

Sure, but if your going to use linux you might want to get an older cheaper laptop as most linux distros don't need so much processing power. I bought a flex 14 such as this for a young relation that does light gaming and I plan to use her old flex (2014) with linux mint. You could probably find one of those around $100.

that's an absolutely bad display. why would you even recommend this as an excellent 2 in 1? i dont know conslusively if it's better than the competition or not cuz i havent done that much research but this ON ITS OWN is not a good enough device. Certainly not excellent, even for the price. And why would you consider this good for students? just cuz it's cheap? so if something is cheap and provides many features which may or may not be useful, students should go for it? What kind of a stupid generalization of needs is this? a content creation student has different needs in a laptop than a literature student. Why would you ever generalize this? and if it really is a "jack of all trades, master of none" kind of a laptop, it does not mean it's "excellent". It just means it's versatile. DEFINITELY NOT EXCELLENT. Sorry for these words of mine but I've seen enough people providing misleading reviews or feedback about things just because the company asked them to provide a positive review for the same, or they dont get paid in sponsorship or endorsements for their channel. PLEASE DON'T MISLEAD POTENTIAL BUYERS, especially students, who do not necessarily have enough time to go through each and every detail of a device because their schedule is quite busy cuz of academic engagements, and have to rely on reviewers like you for the same.
