Since you cloned the hidden partitions (recovery etc) does the Novo button (top left side of laptop) still work on the new cloned SSD? No bios changes required? Also did you have to stop or uninstall the cashing program for the factory SSD, I think it's called Express Cache?

I will check if the button still works. I didn't have to change any programs or so. the only thing was to set the boot order in bios and also after the clone I did connect the HDD to another pc and format it so it won't cause any issues..

Juan Sanchez well according to the makers of this specific SSD , it say Read speed up to 550MB/sec - write speed up to 490MB/sec. i did a test when the SSD was empty but cant remember what i got , but it was a little under the makers spec. i now have the windows 8 on the SSD ,runs sooo smooth loving everysecond. dont know anything about the other brands, this SSD is wokring perfect for me.

Bro, I am doing research in UK. I have personal machine lenovo y510p. I plan to get the same ZTC 128gb and install with authentic OS (Windows 7 from University if they have it, they should). My question is, is it possible to keep my 1TB HD (OS + windows 10 and other files in it) while maybe boot up with windows 7 all the time? And access the files?

HJL90 There Will be a conflict between the 2 windows at boot up. my suggestion is first, simply clone the 1tb hdd to the 128gb ssd so u have the exact same copy of windows files and such. second step is disconnect the 1tb temporary and boot the windows on the ssd. connect now the 1tb and "format it and after that make a image backup of the ssd to the 1tb "(this will be exactly the same windows as the original one that was on the 1tb) . if you have a external drive you could simply make a image backup to that drive of the 1tb and then format it

Ok, Thanks for the info. It is helpful. I got one question. So now let says I wanna use back the same clone windows 8. (Originally given), and now is free upgrade to windows 10. I not sure if Windows still allows free upgrade to 10. So my unit only has 1TB with build in factory OS (The Lenovo one push button, image file). How do I clone the OS into the ZTC 128gb? So I put the ZTC 128gb onto the mother board. And the reformat it. And use some tools I can find on the internet? And it will find the OS? Or I use the Windows specific software to backup the OS. I wish to back up the OS into an external HD too. And once I done the above step. To do the close from SSD to 1TB HD is same procedure? (Reverse)

Okay, iam gonna try to expain for you the steps since you have a external drive which makes it easier. 1-Download "Macrium reflect", its a free software which works great! Use it to make a " image backup" of the 1TB to the external drive so you have the original windows whenever its needed. 2-Now You install the ZTC 128gb onto the motherboard. You now want to put a windows into it. you can do this by cloning it from the one you put into the external drive using the same software or you directly clone it from the 1tb HDD to the ZTC 128gb( its the same). 3-Now that you have the new windows on the ZTC 128GB, turn off the laptop, remove the 1tb and boot (change boot setting to the M.2 in bios) , the laptop turns on like normal. 4- the 1tb hdd, you want to format it to make sure that the laptop doesnt cause problems of 2 windows. Also you will use the 1tb hdd as only storage. To format it you can connect it to another computer and format it or start your laptop, when it starts connect the 1tb hdd (while the laptop is on) , it will show as storage, format all of the partitions of the 1tb and voila now it is a storage 1tb with no windows. 5-Now you have windows on the ZTC 128gb, and 1tb for storage. and a backup file of the 1tb windows on the external drive. i use the macrium reflect alot whenever i want to put a windows into a drive. i have made ready file of windows 10 ( size 22gb) and all the computers boot directly up from it. The only thing needed is install drivers.

Hello, yes it is possible to move full windows 8 from HDD to SSD, and then use the HDD for storage and stuff and the SSD for OS. use a cloning program for example www.todo-backup.com/backup-resource/data-transfer/move-windows8.1-from-hdd-to-ssd.htm

curly0117 i bought the one with 32gb SSD card and a 1tb HDD. then i changed the 32gb to a 128gb ssd. i recently decided to put the windows 8 on my 128gb and use the 1tb for storage. and its succesfull and i dont regret a second.i did the followong:1-restore windows to factory settings (this is to have the windows 8 in its smallest size)2-Cloned the 1TB HDD with all its partitions(windows 8 + factory settings ..etc)this is if i ever decided to switch back to the original HDD or if it breaks i can still make a new one easily.(Optional)3-Cloned the content of the the windows 8 with its boot partitions to the 128gb SSD. 4-Shutdown laptop , remove the backcover ,disconnect the 1TB HDDand then start the laptop, change the boot order in BIOS and its Done. Notes: i disconnected the 1TB HDD so i can format it and use it as simple storage. you dont have to remove the HDD. i dont know anything about 64gb cache , and i dont see how 64gb could be enough for windows 8 on it and games , these days games use a lot of space...ex bf4 maybe 60-70gb

curly0117 The thing is with a tutorial is that i have to do everything again with my laptop that ive already done. which takes time... its not that hard for you to do it , as long as you make the first step which is " safe copy of eveything incase something goes wrong" you are good to go . start with downloading the software for cloning. Macrium reflect ( free version)

Samuel Alder a m.2 ngff (42mm ) it's alot shorter so it will fit in the slot. Also if you can't return the one u bought , why not buy a 2.5" ssd enclosure that way u will have a normal 2.5" ssd for use of other laptops or pcs

@@mitpatel3711 buy a cheap " ngff adapter usb" search on google just to make sure it is working in the first place. Also check if it is detected in the bios or if it is disabled. Did you have a ssd ngff inserted before? Are you sure its in the right place. Check my video. Some lenovo of same modell dont have the slot.

syed thanveer yes it will work fine . any 42mm works fine (it is the size of the ssd that matters because there is not much space to use any other ssd in that particular connector

syed thanveer RAID 0 configuration is when half of the data enters the first ssd and the other half enters the other ssd , this makes the speed about double. the size will show as one ssd 1256gb .there are pros and cons to this. also this depends if the bios have raid compatibility or not . but anyway yes it will work fine with no problem at all
