amazing comparison review man, the hp omen 15 2018 with your 2019 specs ( i7 9750H ran RTX 2060) that i have now work perfectly on comfort mode during many hours of gamings ( thanks to the Bios uptade to F.14) and only needs CPU undervolt on performance mode to work decently, unfortunately the default mode is not suitable for gaming

I bought the Lenovo Legion Y740 17'', it's one of the best purchases I've ever done. I owned a high end gaming pc from 2014 and having this laptop how compact and fast it is, I use it also as a desktop. It's also great for music production/ gaming, editing, multimedia and it's portable. I will now always stick with a Lenovo. I also love that the HDMI is all on the back, they really thought this laptop through.

@@BradT44 Hi no I don't have overheating issues at all the fans are located on the back and sides of the laptop, fan noise can be bit noisy but you'll get used to it only when gaming, further it's pretty quite.

If I had to choose i would go for the MSI GE65 Raider, because it was the best performing laptop for the specs. It also had the best temperatures and it doesn't even need tweaking to get the best performance.

Really good review. I saw a couple of others where they undervolted the Lenovo vs (something with identical cpu/gpu) to get the performance gap closed up, but never gave the other machine a shot with similar tweaks. Out of the box, seems like the Lenovo runs hot and throttles excessively. 99.9% of folks will never undervolt their cpu. You tweaked both and the Omen has almost a 25% performance improvement in Watchdogs 2 (@10:32 in video). Clearly, one of these machines is for performance and gaming and one is more for people who want to look like they might be carrying a corporate laptop. I have a corporate laptop, when I break out my gaming laptop I don't mind it looking like what it is.

Bought y540 15IRH with 15.6" 9300h rtx2060 512 mb ssd with 800 euros on BF november '19, and it rocks. It has better cooling for extended sessions and the hinges are better positiomed. I admit i like omen because if the metal built, but other factors are more important.

I chose Legion before this video, and actually sticked with it throughout the video as well. In my country Omen doesn't come with this configuration for this price, at least I didn't find it, and Legion with this configuration is cheaper. For me Omen didn't seem that much better, even tho I really like the metal cover.

If you wanna keep the temperatures low while rendering you better go for 2019 Acer Predator Helios 300 or MSI GE65 Raider. There is also MSI GE65 or 75 Raider with i9 that should have good temps as well. However if you wanna keep the price lower check out lower configurations (especially 2019 Acer Helios 300)

That would be a perfect choice. The temperature is not a problem at such light tasks. Only heavy gaming may be problematic, but the performance is still good.

Note that Pavilion has GTX 1660Ti Max-Q while Y540 comes with full size GTX 1660Ti. I am not able to predict which one would give you better performance in this case since Legion that you found has i5. Also the i7 in Pavilion has power limit set to 30W instead of 45W. I think that I would go for Legion.

That's because Omen can run only on dedicated Nvidia GPU which consumes much more power. With Legion you can switch to integrated GPU to save battery

@@squeakymonkey there are a lot of things that may affect the performance. Drivers, game patch, room temperature etc. Always take the results with a grain of salt, because it may change with time. In case of 2018 Omen the performance might have been a bit lower because of high temperatures. This problem has been changed with the 2019 model. It still runns hot, but it seems to not affect the performance

Pretty much all of these gaming laptops make a lot of fan noise. I think you just have to accept that it sounds like a jet engine sometimes. My legion Y540 get's loud as well, I had a Zephyrus S and a Scar III before I had my Y540 and they also made a lot of fan noise.

Unfortunately i am not familiar with Linux and coding ;) There is almost no difference between 8th and 9th gen i7. Legion has better GPU and in theory it should you better performance in games, but thermal throttling may be the problem here. In Omen at least it's possible to deal with high temperature.

I don't know French prices but 1199 Euro is pretty cheap for a European country. Helios 300 might be better choice than Omen or Legion but idk if you can find it so cheap in Europe which means that 1199 is better heal in this case

I need an advice. I have the choice between the Lenovo Legion y540 (i5 9300HF, 16GB RAM, GTX 1660TI and 512GB SSD) which costs 1099€ and the Acer Nitro 5 (i5 9300H, 8GB RAM, RTX 2060 and 512GB SSD) which costs 1012€. So I am planning to buy a laptop but I want to play sims 4 on the highest graphics with 100+ mods and with all the packs. Im also planning to play other games as well but not as frequently (e.g. witcher 3). I will need it for some uni work (like using statistical software). Im on hunt and can't decide what to buy as I don't want to spend a lot but would like to keep the laptop for 5 years for sure.

Hey! The Sims 4 is an old game so there may be some problems with optimization and it may perform not as intended, especially with so many mods and addons. No matter how powerful is the laptop. But you can try, it should run anyway. Witcher 3 and other AAA titles no problem. @@TechFinds thanks for the reply. I was actually planning to buy this one after watching your review and comparison to other laptops but my problem is the price. Here in Greece it costs ~1600€ approximately 1780$ which is expensive especially when I see the price tag of 1000$ on the usa market.

@@deathkid68 The laptops are more expensive in the rest of the world. USA has good prices, but if you wanna buy from USA you have to pay duty which with the price of the laptop will most likely give you the same price as in your country. Then if you can find other laptop for the same price as Helios 300 in your country there are some other devices that are worth considering. For example MSI GE65 Raider or cheaper version GL65. HP Omen 15 2019 is worth attention too.

Hello, I want to know your opinion, I want to buy a laptop, I am between the Acer predator Helios 300 2019 "gtx1660ti" or the Hp Omen 15 2019 "gtx1660ti", what has me still undecided is the temperatures first, I would like to know if the hp are As bad as they say or without a doubt they have almost the same cooling as the Acer, and another aspect is the battery. The cooling is not the matter of brand, because it may vary even in 2 laptops of the same model due to many random conditions. Helios 300 seems to have better cooling tho and it has better battery life. if you disable background apps and lower the screen brightness it can last 6h

Hello! 1. Omen should give you the best performance. 2. Omen has the best build as it is all metal 3. Omen had the best cooling nad fan control, however you have to undevolt CPU 4. If i had to choose i would go for Omen

It comes down to my personal preference. I like to have control over the fan speed so I can set it to max while gaming. Legion doesn't have that option. Omen is also all metal while Legion is made of plastic. And with Omen you have more flexibility to tweak thermal performance.

In theory you can. You can download it for free from Microsoft Store if you have compatible model of HP Omen laptop (this one is). However there are lot of issues with installing it and sometimes it may not even be possible. Once i uninstalled this app by accident and now i can't get it downloaded and installed on my friend's Omen even tho it's eligible for this app.

You need to consider buying warranty for either one as well. Legion has option of extra 25 bucks for a year that covers accidental drop spill warranty. Hp warranty is expensive. I replace two hp omen 15 from microcenter. One had bad and loud coil whine. The second omen had logo freeze, factory rest freez, black light bleed, power button didn't lit up and hard drive made loud crackling sound. Will never buy omen again from microcenter. I hope legion is better than omen but i read some bad reviews. i ordered it anyway😐😐😐😐

I got the Lenovo Y740 15" with RTX 2060 last month. I didn't know much about Omen HP laptops back then but I couldn't pass up the offer of just $1350 on the Y740 during the winter discounts. Out of the box, the Y740 did have very high temperatures, spiking even up to 100 C. I could undervolt CPU but only up til -0.120 V which slightly lowered the temps down to 80-90. I might buy a cooling pad but people say it is ineffective for Y740 and temperatures could go way better with reapplying thermal paste. Very quiet fans when light use, but as expected it gets noisy when performance mode enabled. Battery life is nothing when gaming, even on light use you couldn't get more than 2 hours with out of the box settings. Only with undervolted CPU, 50% brightness, no rgb, battery saver mode enabled: you can get around 5 hours light use which isn't entirely bad. I can't seem to find G-sync settings in NVIDIA and am trying to reinstall drivers, but games look and run smooth anyways.
