Hello, had the same issue with my R61. Here's what I did: - Short the pins - Turn on laptop - Head into bios setup - Go to Security - Press enter on the supervisor password area to when you see the prompt to change - Release the shorted pins - Set a new password, or leave blank, save changes and exit

You have to hold down the pins for about 2 minutes, even if you get an error, wait a minute or two and you should get through. Just because you got into the BIOS doesn't mean you bypassed the password. From starting up with the pins shorted, KEEP HOLDING THE PINS into the BIOS, go to Passwords and Enter Supervisor password and release the pins, then press Enter to create a blank password. I don't have any relevant thinkpad laptop, instead I got information from here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIiQg3-hr890iZo You need big tweezers (or a screwdriver) to provide proper contact to the pins, if the tweezers slip a bit, then you will have to start from the beginning again.

Thank you for this... this is exactly the steps that need to be done. One caveat however, if it's an R61i with Thinkvantage... you have to hit F1 on the boot screen while shorting the two pins. It will Error and give you an option to hit F1 again and this will load the bios (the two minutes aren't needed). Keep the pins shorted and follow the rest of the above instructions. It resurrected my old laptop that I protected more than a decade ago and couldn't remember the password. Thank you!
