I JUST picked up a T420 two days ago for $300. AMAZING computer for the price. It was a refurbished model, but honestly speaking, I thought this machine was BRAND new. Lenovo probably redid the entire thing but since it was previously used, they can't label it as new. It came in a box much like a brand new thinkpad and was sealed and everything along with that wonderful new computer fragrance. Really blew my mind. I've previously owned a macbook pro 13 inch and while that computer has a superior display, even if cost wasn't an issue, I'd take the thinkpad any day of the week. Such an amazing machine. I also don't know what people are talking about when they say it's an ugly tank. It's not ugly. These machines are elegant in design and sophistication PLUS, they're immensely affordable and durable. Lenovo thinkpads continue to amaze me.

Well this looks amazing! In the old spill test people were careful not to spill liquid on the edges of the keyboard and speakers because that's where the edge of the draining tray was. I actually manage to damage the mainboard on my W510. Here they don't fool around - make it wet where it counts. I am really amazed it was still working and I am wondering if it would be the same for my T540. I won't be checking it out though :)

I've been a user of Lenovo laptops since 2006. My first 3000 N100 model was still alive by 2020 when I sold it to a new owner. Another one, B590, has served me since 2012 and does not look like going anywhere (knocking on wood). I mean, how can one not be a fan? Planning to buy a P15v soon.

I would of liked to see you turn it on afterwards, as in an hour or so or next day. As good as this is, Im actually on my 3rd keyboard (1st one was for originally for the customer). I have just fitted it and came here to show my missus what`s meant to happen. They are not cheap. (BTW the spill this time was half a tea spoon of tea in the wrong spot) As much as the machine survives. When you press power button after a spill, the machine whirs for 4 seconds as if booting then cuts out. A lot of people would of thought the entire unit was dead, but luckily as an IT engineer I stripped board out and dock tested it. Just thought you should know. If it happens to you, then dont throw out the unit, just go get new KB. (Not just the model above)

not the specific keyboard but I am pretty sure that the THINKPAD yogas have spill resistance to lenovo's thinkpad standards. I wouldn't expect the level in this video but hey, Lenovo always surprised me!

But does the keyboard still work? I got some water and clay in my keyboard one and I ended up having to replace my keyboard since some of the keys stopped working a few days later. It is a great laptop though and pretty durable.

At least you only had to replace the keyboard. If it weren't for the spill resistant keyboard, you would have had to replace the motherboard.

TheKillerind lol fuck that made me kinda happy, I was pretty bummed out, because my W530's keyboard and trackpad are broken due to spilling unknown amount of liquid, but it will only cost me 60 dollars to replace :D I have to admit I was pretty disappointed that it was not as water resistant as I would have liked, but like you say it's better then buying a new one :P

Last summer my sister spilled a mug of hot coffee on my T450s, from which I'm typing this right now. However I have a question to Lenovo: Is the touchpad also connected to the drainage system? I assume it is, but official info would be nice :)

Michael Phan It's not, it's separate. I have tested it myself and found it seeps through the sides and gets underneath, then if the laptop is shaken the water moves around it it and then the trackpad is destroyed. Not official, but if you have ever dug deep into the laptop you will see.

My G710 touchpad looks sealed, and my laptop just survived a coffee spill. I didn't even know it was water resistant...but thank god it is.

I accidentally dumped an entire mug of coffee in my E430 two months after I got it, the keys have a slight stick because I didn't pull it apart to clean it. What I'm not impressed with on this laptop is the bottom case broke in two corners.

I know this sounds really silly, but I previously had a thinkpad T520 and a few days ago I was IMMENSELY stressed. The stress had me feeling like Mike Tyson and I punched the screen. The screen broke. To be brutally honest, before I punched the screen, I did actually think about what might happen after the punch, but I've watched so many of these test videos I felt it would be able to sustain my punch. The screen CRACKED to my amazement. Previously my thinkpad sustained major falls and blows but everything was still in pristine condition. The damage is COMPLETELY due to my own fault and sheer silliness, but still, I honestly thought it would be able to handle it, again, after viewing so many of these test videos. I'm not disappointed in the fact that it cracked, because after all, it is a computer and not a punching bag; we can't expect the world. In the end, I'm still a loyal customer to Lenovo. I just picked up a new thinkpad T420. By far better than the previous T520. Lenovo, you guys are amazing.

If you had it on a table, the water probably leaked in from underneath where there is no protection...That's all! My laptop just survived a coffee spill because of this keyboard... So it does work.

I accidentally spilled water on it, it works fine but my keyboard is dying slowly even after I took it to the repair show the keyboard was sealed from behind so the water didn't go to the motherboard but keyboard got effected and maybe I just have to change the keyboard

My Thinkpad T460 survived with me being goofy and spilling my bowl of cereals on it 😂 It was full of milk, so I rinced it up with full water under the tap so it's not all sticky inside. I did shut it down and let it dry for a couple days as a precaution though. But it survived!

I wonder if after the test everything continues working normally. I have a W541 and after receiving about 30ml of natuarl water in the center of keyboard, the water never were drained by the holes, and after some minutes many keys stop working, exactly this ones (N,H,Y,6,M,J,U,7,.,L,O,9). Now i've to buy another keyboard because the warranty doesn't cover this damage. This is my third thinkpad and I feel to disapointed.

advantage here is even if you spill something as sticky as coffee on your thinkpad . just get rubbing alchole and put it all over the keyboard and it will run out taking the sticky with it

Spilled an entire water mug on the power button and screen hinge, water was draining on the opposite side of the laptop, I was sure water went though the entire notebook, but a video was playing, and it never stopped working, no water damage signs of any kind, at the time, I just shut it down, and disconnect power, and let it sit sideways for 24h, just in case.. no rice though, 6 months later, still kicking.. T480 Amazing water resistant and anti spill design

Yup after removing the water droplets, I let it dry for 12hr just to make sure no moister is left on the board and I put the keyboard back on.
