Yes, but you have to update your Intel drivers and you may need to update your BIOS, which is dangerous to mess up. All CPUs off this doc: download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/l540_fru_bom_20140807.pdf are fair game. There are more powerful CPUs to fit this socket, but they may give you thermal problems.
