Soldered ram and ssd should be banned for computer use or at least make 16gb the required minimum if it's soldered. It's ridiculous that we came from laptops that used to have upgradable CPUs to laptop's that can'r and now it won't even let you upgrade something as basic as a storage drive. Not gonna be surprised if 10 years later we won't be able to replace the battery anymore either

There are already laptops that have been designed in a way which batteries cannot be reasonably replaced, as they're glued in and without the right tools either can't be removed, or are punctured when doing so and thus being a fire hazard.

Similar spec to my work issued laptop (HP EliteBook 850 G8), also an i7-1165G7 but 32GB RAM, in SODIMM format. Mine needs a bigger SSD, but otherwise a decent machine. Being a part network engineer, having a dongle for ethernet feels a bit ghetto, but it works lol.

Yeah, the RAM is the reason I've migrated to one of our dev machines since I recorded this video, which have 32GB of RAM and built-in LAN. The office I work in has extensive network and patching issues due to a rushed office fit-out last year by a third party, so having the LAN port has been a godsend in trying to figure out what doesn't work.

@@JackStavris 16GB is fine for office workers for the next few years, but any IT staff or engineer really needs more nowadays. How are those dev machines specced? I’m assuming 6-8 core H chips?

Nah, they’re Ryzen 7 Pro 5875U CPUs which are an 8-core, pretty fast actually for a low power CPU.

def. one of the best laptop keyboards still but just can't use it. using the P1 G3 (i9 4K) instead. on the other hand for my wife 1.5mm is still too much, she prefers ~1mm

It's weird to me to hear someone prefer a shorter travel on a laptop keyboard, as someone who owned a butterfly keyboard MacBook Pro in the past, which had the shortest travel of any laptop I've ever used, it wasn't pleasant to use. For quick bursts to typing the shorter travel is fine but for long emails or documents, it's not ideal and the longer travel of a ThinkPad is ideal.

@@JackStavris yeah it's weird to me also but actually there are a lot of people preferring short to very short keytravel... For my wife I bought a MacBook Air for that reason (+ various other reasons). weird her job is to type journalistic articles :D Somehow some people dislike to press a key for longer distances and just want an instant click out of a key. For me even 1,8 mm on a mechanical laptop keyboard like the cherrymx ultralowprofile is not enough. I prefer 2,1 to 2,2 mm AT LEAST. ThinkPad P51 was great in this regard. On the other hand I enjpyed using the ThinkPad X1 Tablet first Gen keyboard with ~1,2 mm - it was just so crisp. even better than the crisp 1,35 mm KB of the Z13 somehow but may depend on the keyboard manufacturer. 1,5 mm I could live with when I had to upgrade in the future but makes me very sad at the same time. below 1,5 mm is an absolute no go for me. 1,65 mm would be a nice compromise. For 1,5 mm I actually prefer EliteBook Keyboards though. better presssure point imho. But lacking the trackpoint.
