Great review. I bought this used about 6 months ago. I read endless reviews some positive and some saying it’s over priced and soft wide open. I would say it’s a bit soft wide open but I love the rendering when used for portraits and pretty much anything I shoot with it. It has that’s something special. Stopped down was a surprise. It’s really sharp with fantastic micro contrast. I’ve shot some architectural stuff with and it’s mind blowing. One of my favorite lenses. That said I don’t think I would pay the new retail price. It’s a $1000.00 lens not 1600.00. I have sharper 50mm lenses but this really is a special lens that I love to shoot. Awesome !

Thanks for this short and sweet review. I have been contemplating whether I should get one because I haven't heard great things about it but every time I ask for a good Nikkor 50mm prime the camera shops instantly point me to it. I'll stick with my 50mm 1.4 as I have little case use for what this has to offer (unless I come across a lucrative deal for a clean second hand copy).

It's a piece of crap. Why can't you just say that so Nikon doesn't do it again?

It is NOT a piece of crap, don't buy it if you want to have ultra sharp pictures at f/1.4, on that lens f/1.4 is made to get great bokeh not ultra sharpness (other apertures are very sharp on that lens).

@@alexabadi7458 It's a trash can lens. If you buy it, you're a moron. It's barely capable of resolving 20mp cameras, and is absolutely TERRIBLE for bokeh because of the swirl.

Because it's not. It has the best bokeh of all 50ish Nikon F lenses
