0:15 Why are you comparing real time in game ray tracing, to pre rendered ray tracing acting like if you can do it in a render, they should be able to do it realtime just as easy. Pre rendered RTX and realtime RTX are completely different beasts..... you took 22 hours to render this very short video, with like 40 seconds of footage (on a 3090). Which if my math is correct, a 40 second 60fps video rendered in 22 hours, is roughly 33 seconds per frame of render time. Compare that to what RTX Minecraft has to render, which is a minimum of 60 frames in 1 second (my 3080 runs it closer to 100 frames a second). Its not even on the same planet dude. You're saying because you can render better looking RTX graphics, at a rate of 33 seconds per frame, compared to over 60 frames per second. So in the time you render 1 frame, Minecraft RTX would have rendered 1980 frames. The method you are using, is literally 1980x slower (probably closer to 2500-3000x slower, considering you are using a 3090 and a 3090 would probably get over 150 fps on minecraft RTX) than minecraft RTX. You cannot imply "If I can do this, you should be able to make Minecraft RTX look as good as this".
@Dracocetus
@Dracocetus Жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly! Great comment 👌 I wished more people realised that. I saw several compare it to real texture packs and shaders when there's nothing to compare. Making an animation look good in blender is actually way easier than what people think (I have made a realistic looking metal pendant in blender as a first time thing and it took me 5 hours ish), but making something look good in real time is way more difficult (like you said). In Blender you can basically use as many details as you like as long as you let it render for the time it needs to render. He honestly made me quite mad with that comment. It's literally a scam video

while i agree that MC RTX should be out of beta by now, its pretty unfair to say that with "i created this in 5 days" as an argument. the workflow and requirements game artists go through are very different than a CG/render artist. part of the reason minecraft rtx runs so well is because the geometry count is so low through at any given point to the player compared to a cyberpunk2077 for example. adding 100+ grass texture cards to every grass block (to get the same detail level as you did) would destroy performance on most computers. there are also resource packs that increase the texture resolution and (if i remember right) pixel displacement on blocks

Its amazing that he has the patience to do this with Blender. But at the same time, Unreal Engine 5 can get similar graphics like this in real time.. I don't understand why people bother to spend 20 hours to render 30 second animations when UE can do it in real time.
@bubble8760
@bubble8760 Жыл бұрын
@@clout3997 I never used both of these but, they are not made for the same purpose. If UE5 was truly just better than blender, then blender wouldn't just be THAT popular anymore or I would've heard much more how blender is just replaceable by UE5. It's not just about graphics I guess, and the fact that it takes 20h to render smthg that UE "can do in real time" is just the proof that they basically aren't doing the same things. If it was the case, what is the purpose of blender then? Waste time? Again, I don't know enough to talk but... I mean, If people choose to wait 20h instead of getting something instantly, I guess it's just because they aren't getting the same thing by getting it instantly
@DrakZhull
@DrakZhull Жыл бұрын
@@bubble8760 They are not interchangeable. That much you are right about. Blender is a 3D program for building and sculpting individual models with support for rendering on the side. UE5 is a game engine primarily built for rendering 3D assets and entire worlds. Two completely different approaches and focus at different places. No one can say that one is better than the other since they serve different purposes. However, for the rendering part, he is right. There is no point in rendering the scene in Blender for 20h when you have professional rendering software UE5 at your disposal, for free, which can do this in better quality and in real-time. He simply lost a lot of time for no reason.

All hyper/photorealistic texture packs hit the uncanny valley. It's just not possible to make it look good when your textures are 4K and your models have 6 polygons on average, it's like trying to disguise the taste of lemon in lemonade, you can add as much stuff as you like, there's still no getting away from the lemon juice.
@NousagiCaptain

Isnt this an improper use of “ uncanny valley”? That only applies to living things doesnt it?
@IstyManame
@IstyManame Жыл бұрын
@@NousagiCaptain the original graph is a relation between an object's degree of resemblance to a human being and the emotional response to the object, so technically I'm using it not "properly", but i don't think there is anything wrong with interpreting it because it gives a clear idea of what i meant. Ofc i could instead say " i think your work looks so realistic it's almost uncomfortable to look at because my brain starts to perceive it as a video of a real place but everything is blocky so it confuses and kinda annoys it". Hit the uncanny valley sounds better to me

@@NousagiCaptain It’s typically used in reference to human faces or voices because our brains are wired to recognize faces and thus the uncanny valley effect is stronger, but it can totally apply to other things as well. It would certainly be achievable with massive optimisations and LOD. It's certainly not fair to compare a blender animation that takes hours to render to a real time game output but this kind of detail would definitely be possible so long as the cloth simulations/block models etc were all pre-baked and cleaned up a bit. Minecraft (bedrock edition) is far better optimised for this kind of scene than blender is, if nvidia or mojang poured the resources into it, we'd have it already.

@4:39 its soo funny seeing this, mark my words and I guarantee it, this type of gfx will be available as the new vanilla Minecraft in 3033 LOL , ppl of that era will find this video on youtube and say wow ppl thought RTX was nex gen tech when it literally a normal "below standard" in comparison to what gamers will have by that time.

i think if you added a diamond pbr texture to the diamond sword it would look better , aswell as decreasing the rougness and adding some glare , light rays

reminds me of all of those minecraft ripoff games on the xbox 360 that tried to make everything look a lot higher definition than a block game style should reasonably have but since that was probably the point of the video then you did a great job at it

This is insane, but I want to mention that minecraft paintings are almost entirely based on actual paintings save for the wither one. You can generally find them all online if you look hard enough.

Everything looks super good!! Maybe Mojang should hire you, you could me one of the leading directors for the development of this portion of Minecraft. The nether portal, I find, looks a bit off. There's no nausea, (perhaps you cut the capture before that could happen) it's the wrong hue of purple (you've made it violet) and I think it should be more, swirly? The effects look on point though, but this is all my opinion. Also, I'd like your personal opinion. Which do you think is better, Blender, or Maya?

looks incredible :O for future reference, there are a lot of sound packs and sound mods like "Ambient Sounds 5 Mod" and "Extra Sounds Mod" that you could have used to record the footstep sounds for the realistic version though I'm not sure if footsteps would also replay with the replay mod :o Good job dude :)

You are a decade or two too early. It takes 22 hours to render almost a chunk on a beefy pc and vr isn’t even close to pc level more like previous gen console.

@@AakaNacho There are games that look much better than this in VR. Half Life Alyx for example. With RTX renders like this, the extra time in rendering is for like maybe 10-15% better lighting, which in most cases won't even be noticed, increase the render times by HOURS. He could have rendered this entire scene with fairly similar RTX lighting in a game enging like Unreal Engine real time no problem. Probably not 60fps, but I have personally made very realistic scenes in UE5 that look close to reality, which run at about 20fps.
