It was a small role and yet I remember it so well from when the series was on TV. There was a beautiful warmth, intelligence and kindness with their scenes. This small part and sequences of scenes would have stolen the core in any other series. West Wing was full of such moments. Yet, I still remember this so clearly.

@@SpydeyDan It might have gone either way. A producer has said that Santos was the original planned winner, but Vinick became such a popular character with the writers that they had debates over who should win. John Spencer's death was likely a deciding factor in the final decision.

When he asks where she’s from I suspect it’s a reference to the Bhopal disaster of 1984, where there was a gas leak at a Union Carbide plant that killed thousands.

I kind of missed what happened. Leo wanted Bartlett to order a bombing and he says… or what ?? Then Leo realizes his counsel is no longer needed. They’re at camp David I think and heart attack but Leo has been fired.. but this was before Santos and Leo was gonna be his vice president?

This is I think a season before Santos runs. By the time Leo gets involved with the Santos campaign he's a special advisor under C.J. with a reduced workload but still involved.

Leo at the end of Season 5 wants Bartlett to avenge the loss of American lives overseas, (the bombing that killed Fitzwallace and criticially injured Donna) Bartlett wants to make the peace. When Leo realizes he cannot get through to the President, he knows he has to step down. The signs of the heart attack were showing in the episode well before the climax, but Leo ignored it.

This was season 6 out of 7 seasons. Season 7 was mostly Santos running for and eventually winning the election for President with Leo being his running mate. Sadly John Spenser (Leo) had a fatal heart attack in real life just before Santos won.

You lot drive me insane. It's a done deal and the west wing has limited chances of being rebooted to the glory of Sorkins best. But S 5-7 are still the show and they are still canon. You lot kill so many shows when they have bad seasons. The problem is how can showrunners know how to please every nay sayers. Person A hates Z, but loves X, and person B hates Y but Z is acceptable l, and some guy thinks the show must die. So they go all over the damn place trying to please and pissing everyone off.
