Janáček's music is so linguistic...how could he write in every line of tears, every fragment of nostalgic recollections so sincerely and flawlessly...as if uttering few words beneath the profound weeping...composing music as Janáček did requires the most honest heart which is been deprived of the pursuit of perfectionism.

Leoš Janáček is so underrated, at least in the English-speaking world. Not enough people know about him. I only found out by accident about 15 years ago

I’m just getting into Janacek’s music. I’m a classically trained pianist. This is some of the most beautiful piano music I’ve ever heard. Thank you for posting.

The main theme of The Virgin of Frydek (9.44 - 10.25) is absolutely stunning. So melancholy, so fragile, like looking at the Autumn rain and feeling your soul bursting in the droplets.

Kvapil is the perfect performer for ths book of miniatures full of nostalgy with its allusive harmonies which generally avoid traditional links and cadenzas. Janacek used to wor kcarefully with small motives rathe r than long, romantic-like themes. This makes thois book a marvel of deep feeling and recollections.

Extraordinaire ambiance, qui de sa poésie ne lâche jamais l'auditeur... Pur génie. À la fois toujours évident et inattendu dans son discours musical...

This is a lovely rendition. I have been listening to Firkusny's. This seems to me more personal and more contemplative, and thus more beautiful. Thank you.

Firkusny's is more stressful. This is deeper and reflective, and more beautiful and illuminating. Entrancing music and recording.

Janacek's piano works have a similar intimate and nostalgic quality to Schumann's miniatures. I love these pieces.

Janacek wrote two interesting folders of piano pieces; in the mists and on an overgrown path (this one divided into two folders). He uses his technique of varied repatition of small and simple melodic cells (sometimes symbolizing natural sounds). One may think about the possible influence of Debussy, but Janacek once said: "I have nothing to do with the Franch impressionism" (Debussy did not accept the world "impressionism, but that is another story). The two folders are pure delights.

@@EmdrGreg -- Oh no, I ADORE sour cream, especially with elderberries and blini; however, I DO object when otherwise great musical composers take their names after food staples. Not for nuthin', but in contrast Rachmaninoff (Rahmaninov) owes his name to the Qur'aan's "Fatihah" -- "Bismi l'Allah w'RAKHMAN [the All-Merciful] w Rakheem...." A better choice than fermenting milk......I'm jus sayin'.....
